I'm a young black girl and I've been told that "I don't act black" because I'm very reserved and have a particular way of speaking. I have family members who are in prison, do drugs, and are gangbangers. And even more family who had children very young, and are to this day unmarried with multiple kids. We need to do better. It breaks my heart to see us like this. No other race is as divided as we are.

I honestly don't understand how black Americans don't feel utterly insulted that "acting black" means being late, low test scores, mispronouncing words etc. if I were a black man I would feel completely insulted that there are absolute lower expectations for me. If I were a black man hired via affirmative action or diversity policies, I wouldn't want the job. White liberals enact these policies expecting easy black votes. Someday black Americans will realize they are being condescended to. That they ARE just as capable and intelligent as us white Americans. Thomas Sowell is one of the few black academics who has never backed down from speaking against corrosive behavior from any demographic.

I’m a 14 year old black girl who’s about to be in high school when summer ends. One of the biggest issues is kids and teenagers. Most of us don’t have good role models and just generally aren’t raised well. I live in Jackson MS, so where I am, the issues facing this community are extremely prevalent. Honestly, it saddens me just being around my classmates. Many of the boys want to be gangbangers and the girls want to be only fans models. I know I’m a kid still and it’s hypocritical for me to say this, but kids these days don’t have aspirations or role models. They don’t have passions or goals, all they really want is to be “cool,” regardless of where they end up. Even further, kids are extremely disrespectful to their teachers like you said. It’s only worsened by new younger teachers who are just graduating college. They’re not mature and encourage the bad behavior by laughing at jokes and even contributing to bullying. Also, parents like you mentioned. My mom is an amazing parent, always encouraging me to be myself and be passionate, but I never really had a father, and that had tremendous mental effects on me that I’ll probably never get rid of. I’ll admit that I’m very fortunate with my circumstances compared to my peers, but these problems are real and affect everyone. Furthermore, many black kids bully other kids who choose to be engaged in learning, follow rules, respect teachers, etc. I always have all A’s in class and put in effort in school to learn. I love learning and always have, and I love following along with the teachers, but other kids harass me for that. They call me a “try hard” and make fun of me for the way I talk because I speak standard English. Honestly it’s all just sad.

Told him, I am waiting for a friend and that she should be here any moment and we will be on our way. 'She? Your GF?' - Nah, just a friend... 'Hey take her to my place, I got sum drugs'n stuff, we can listen to Hiphop and have fun with her.' Kinda lost it at that moment and asked if he is out of his f***ing mind. Should be quite obvious, I am not into Hiphop (Goth/Metalhead and looked like that, especially when right out of a club) and told him what I think of his approach to women... ...I will always remember his last words to me: 'You are a disgrace to our race!' - If that is the case, I continued to be. Oh... and that was over 20 years ago, and the situation has not improved. To answer your question about the biggest challenge in facing the black community: For me, it is considering myself as being part of it again, as it was in my teens. I'm 55 and once I'm able I will be using my passport to go explore other pastures outside the u.s. because this part of black culture in America may be beyond redemption unless it's a meteorite where we got to start over and that's unfortunate for us and our ancestors who wanted the best for us as future generations beyond their time. That's why it's alot of black Americans leaving this country because they saw the righting on the wall and that's why we got a group from amongst us here in America called passport bros whose left America to go seek better pastures elsewhere. Most of some black Americans don't want to hear this because the truth even in this instance is too hard to swallow. But it is what it is. And black Americans like I saw someone on another platform wellas Bahamian say that we must be mindful on realizing that black culture permeates world wide and is not restricted to just the United States.

Tell the truth, YES, absolutely onboard with you there. But shame the devil? One of the enforcers for cultleader turns whistleblower and calls the cultleader out for his excessive bullying. The cultleader throws a hissyfit, throws the enforcer out and magicks him into a red winged faun with a trident, forever exiled to guard an imaginary place of neverending fire, where the cultleader imprisons any humans that do not unquestioningly obey him. His rationale for inflicting infinite torture for infinite duration, is that he "loves" the victims. Now we humans, instead of calling the cultleader out as a monster justifying abuse with wifebeater reasoning, are supposed to just think of this creep as THE ultimate good guy, and the whistleblower as THE ultimate bad guy? I mean, if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck... I might hold it against the whistleblower that he used to be an enforcer for the cultleader, but honestly, he makes a lot of good points now he's an exile. Look at the Satanist commandments, and compare those to the Christian ones. Tell me one of those doesn't sound like a narcissistic abuser, and the other doesn't sound like a wonderful humane member of society. I'm with the whistleblower, honestly. The cultleader sounds too much like trump.

Thank you for your video. I am a white woman in the south and a librarian. My first assignment was in the library in the predominantly poor black community. I did my best for three years to help people get what they needed as best as I could and every day I took verbal and occasionally physical abuse. People needed help with computers, getting signed up for benefits, getting thier kids enrolled in school or programs, getting forms filled out, having safe library programs for thier kids to attend after school. And at least twice a week I was threatened by someone saying they’d get me fired for “disrespecting” them (though they were never able to tell me exactly how I did that, usually it was after I tried to enforce some behavior rules), I get cursed out for telling them not to eat around the computers, or to please keep their children from climbing on the shelves. I caught some kid writing obscenities on the children’s furniture, and the mother screamed at me and called me a racist. People would get into domestic arguments and fistfights in our doorways. Men would come in staggering drunk and scream at us when we told them to leave. I have so many stories, and it broke my heart to think I was really not doing any good there no matter what I did. It was a culture I didn’t understand. Of course, there were some who are not like this. The community actually valued their Library greatly took pride in it, it was brand new, small, but nice, and one time some kids spray painted the side of the wall, and last I heard the community made sure they didn’t do it again. If some teens acted up and got suspended for a week, there were some parents who came up to get them and we’re quite upset at the kids and not us for their misbehavior in the library. But not always. Eventually, for my own emotional health, I asked to be transferred to another branch. Eventually, I was taken off public services altogether due to the verbal abuse and micro aggressions now endemic in the public in general causing me severe stress and now work in technical services, but so many of my coworkers continue to try to help the public while being verbally abused by it. We see everything you’ve described in your video, and it makes me sad.

I do not mean kicking children out of school because of their hair styles and such... we have enough of that silly mess at other schools. But control what CAN BE controlled. Give reasonable goals for the parents to follow. I don't know why parents are shirking their responsibilities towards their children probably because they think the school is responsible while they are there. When my kids were in school and I was alerted to things they were doing I was there in a hurry job or no job. The parents have to care and do something when things are going awry. You have to be able to depend on your kid to do what is supposed to be done so you have to come down on them if they are not or fix it if they cannot. These years last just so long and you want to raise healthy adults you have to care and pour into them.

@@ThisBahamianGyal just an example that opened my eyes to this was that young lady who made up a kidnapping story about how she pulled over to rescue a toddler walking along the highway, then abandoned her car and was believed to be abducted. I reacted to the fact that she was very young and a student, and driving a very expensive Mercedes SUV. I'm middle class middle income and that vehicle is way out of my budget. It's possible her family was very wealthy but otherwise why does a young woman feel the need for such a luxury car and for what money? This flaunting of non-existing wealth is prevalent across many cultures today and it's so destructive and steals young people's futures from them.

I taught in an independent school in Lagos, Nigeria, and saw the same with those parents. If the students got in trouble at school, the parents would punish them again. In London among the predominantly black communities now we have riots and knife crime, gangs and thieving. Its so sad. The godliness and love for community is still there but it is not supported by society. Being strict is somehow seen as cruel. This abandonment of pride and structure creates lawless chaos.

I mean, if you go back “To Kill a Mockingbird “ when Calpurnia takes Jem and Scout to her church one Sunday when Atticus is gone.Scout describes how Calpurnia scrubbed them within an inch of their lives, and her dress was so stiffy starched she could barely move. Calpurnia says it because y’all are my company! This is not only black culture, but I think culture’s across the board. For example, the way people feel like it’s ok to dress and behave on airplanes. Schools are expected to solve all of our cultural ills that bubble to the surface in a school. Schools can't do the impossible. A school cannot put back together a broken family. Many commentators, researchers, economists, social workers, criminologists, and others across many fields argue that fatherless and broken families are THE (italicized, bold, in red) biggest problem this country faces. I think there is a growing divide between the black SAns that have and those that don't. I definitely wouldn't say that it's worse than Apartheid, absolutely nothing is comparable to that period. But I will say the social effects of removing fathers in the homes of black families (through mines, Group Areas Act) are being suffered now and we're having to deal with fatherlessness, men with undiagnosed PTSD with many self medicating, lack of socialization of kids and desensitization to violence. I think we have mental health issues that we're only now taking about and campaigns to destigmatize mental health services. I think also enforcing the law is hard, because so many of the young boys commiting crime don't have any family support and putting them in jail will expose them to hardened criminals that will recruit them. It's a catch22 Being SA and in the NGO space, it's all races that are affected by this. Some have fathers but they are not present and are abusive. Okay. I’m not black but I feel concern for my fellow humans. Present day is not what I acknowledge as “black” culture. I’m a boomer. These aren’t the black people I remember and admire and respect. Why do these people (white included) want to dress like this? Black culture that I acknowledge is nuclear family, clean, neatly dressed, religious and respectful of each other especially the women. Even the poor people had pride and it was obvious and garnered respect. We hear “black pride” today but it’s a lie. There’s no pride when your two year old daughter is twerking and your sons pants are around his knees or you’re happy to be treated like trash. Sorry this comment is so long and I know some may be offended. I really wish y’all would reject the people that are destroying you. Thanks for sharing. You are beautiful. …from a place of love, peace. Afterthought: today’s young black people would not have been able to gain the civil rights ground that was gained initially. Think about it. They wouldn’t be taken seriously. I’m sure someone will have a good argument against that lol.

I am black and a fellow boomer. Growing up in the sixties we learned to respect people who were older than us even on the play ground. When I was 14 years old I wanted to hang around older guys who I thought were good mentors and they were! They made sure to keep me out of trouble and they instilled boundaries because of my age. These guys wore banlon knit shirts with dress pants and the latest style loafers. This is when pride was taken in combing the afros and talking respectfully to the women who were dressed to impress when they went to house parties and club venues. Muscle cars and luxury cars were the normal mode of transportation. Society has changed so much from back in the day as we say. I miss those brothers and especially the around the way girls (respectfully) who would braid our hair into corn rolls for us. The neighbors who looked out for us like Aunties did their part in keeping us on the strait and narrow. Back then there were more male teachers in the schools and things were settled when there was trouble in the class room. I actually feel depressed seeing the new normal if I can call it that. The people I have referred to are slowly gone away having done their part in the neighborhood and leaving their mark on us boomers who learned from them. I have hope that our efforts to instill decency to our grandchildren will leave a mark on society that yearns to get back to the days of pride and respect for others.

As a consequnce our only child (19 years old) has no Black friends. One day I asked her why this was. We live in a 90%+ White community. My daughter told me two things that broke my heart. The small population of Black kids at her school are always in trouble and act "ghetto". She further told me that she wasn't Black enough to hang out with them and not White enough to be fully accepted by her white friends.
