The lady he's dancing with is his wife who he's been with since they were both kids. This is one of the best bands ever.

The Cure managed to keep original goth/post punk fans even when they did a pop sound, not many bands would have kept so many fans with such a change in sound, it’s a testament to Robert Smith

Thanks for the reaction! I appreciate how you appreciate the music :D The intro and build up in this song is one of my favorites, how they layer in all the instruments one at a time is so effin good: the drums, bass, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, then keyboards. Then his soft melodic, melancholic, dreamy voice! So goood!

This was my introduction to the cure (via the performance of this song during the 1989 MTV award show... And even I consider myself to be a proper (heavy) metalhead, the cure is still my first love and always will be..

The cure are one of the most versatile bands , they can do anything , the band is 40+ years old , they had to move around the genres and catch up with the shift of the decades , but still managing to stay original

There's an 80's French band named Indochine that had a very similar sound to The Cure. They were huge back then, and still are, You can hear the same kind of dreamy vibe in their songs such as La Chevauchée Des Champs De Blé, Tes Yeux Noirs and La Machine à Rattraper Le Temps. Give them a try, you won't regret it.

Great eighties vibe! I love this band's physical appearance especially the hair! His voice is so unique. I feel like bouncing around to the fun combination of the synthesizer and drums! Great song Josh!

They didn´t switch genres. It was dark pop/postpunk from the start. "Friday, I´m in love" is their poppiest song ever but that album (Wish) is veeery dark! They have released some happy pop singles during their 45 years, but that´s a very minor part of their catalogue.

You ask about the switch to pop from darker material. Robert & the Cure have never had any issue going from one direction to another, even from one album to another. An example is the album right after this, 'Disintegration'. It's quite dark in most of the material. It's a real gem, many consider it the best Cure record. I would recommend 'Pictures of You' as the next react post that you play from The Cure.

You should definitely listen to When Time Stood Still by ELO. It was originally supposed to be on their 1981 album Time, but sadly didn't make the cut, and was released later on. Such a moving and very emotional piece, showing the songwriting and composing range of the mastermind Jeff Lynne.

The Cure don't adhere to just one genre. They like to make the music that they wanna make and don't really care if it fits with what people expect from them. It's one of the reasons why I love them. Robert Smith in particular is not afraid to just be himself.

The Cure have this image of dark, radical, bizarre outsiders but their music is largely composed of maudlin love songs and conventional pop numbers. Never did much for me. All I can say about this song is that it's pretty.
@jean-christophelebachelet5926

Try their earlier album Faith (1981) and Pornography (1982)and you will understand why they have their Dark, radical and bizarre outsiders reputation, Listen to the track "Splintered in her head" or the cult "Carnage visors" ( litterally a 28 mn instrumental of bass guitar) which influenced the Twin peaks music by Angelo Badalamanti and the riff of californication by Red hot chili peppers ! The Cure were a complete Cult and dark Band between 1978 and 1984.... they became pop superstar in Europe in 1985..... Their mauldly love songs and poppy numbers were just a little part of their huge catalogue....
