A beige belt... Not the worst thing in the world, and not the most expensive item.It seemed liked a good idea to have a black and beige belt (as I do own black ad beige trousers) however I never reach for it. The tag is till on the belt, but I tossed the receipt thinking I would keep it.It'll probably be donated to charity.

The best piece of advice I ever received was: 'Always go shopping wearing one of you're most favourite outfits. Then, when you're in a store's fitting room trying on new pieces, if you don't love the outfit you're trying on more than you love the outfit you're already wearing, don't buy it!' Since I started following that advice I've made more considered - and fewer impulse - purchases.

Ive learned over the last 10 years after going to stylists and colour experts and editing my wardrobe endlessly and trying to make that magical capsule wardrobe of correct colours that, in essence we like to shop because we feel we aren't beautiful, we don't look like we want to look or we aren't stylish enough or we aren't happy, etc., etc., etc., and we believe if we can just get our clothes right or our house right or our jewellery or style or makeup etc., right, we will feel right, but it just costs us money. Seeing if we have something similar sounds practical but it won't satisfy the feeling that lurks inside which sends us on the shopping merry-go-round and you know what? Designers and stylists know that. They make their money from our insecurities.

I never understood people who are lazy to return their items. the only thing that motivate me to return is I get my money lol. I have a friend who always buy fast fashion, it's part of her hobby. when she doesn't like the piece, she just kept them that eventually pile up in her wardrobe. in fact the tag is still there! A lot of it for me is the social rejection aspect. I fear that the employee won’t take the return for some reason, and then risk the embarrassment of having to walk away with it anyway, or to have the employee shame me or accuse me of trying to scam. It sounds really silly because I know they don’t care, but it’s hard for me to work up the courage to make a return, so it’s not always about laziness.

I also went through all of my jeans and trousers and realized that I have more than enough of those as well. When out shopping I always ask myself if it's a WOW. If not then I don't buy it. One thing I learned since watching your channel is to sharp my wishlist, and maybe this makes the crowbrain gets educated, because I have no regrets on two dresses I bought in an impulse. I think the yellow linen shirt can be the case and can give you so much play. I also regret, sometimes, to buy the same exact thing in two or three colous. I found a system that works for me. For example i picked a color pallet that i enjoy and compliments my aesthetic, skin and hair color (usually dark orange, brown, mustard yellow, deep green, beige, ecru) and i love textures like straw, string, suede and knit. I know i enjoy generally boho chic - hippie items. So for example, when i wanted to add new sleeveless blouses for the summer (i barely had any) i made a system in which i said, okay, I'll get one in each of my favorite color, and each one has to have a different shape, texture, or something to it. Each blouse went well with a majority of my pants, as well as with all my sandals and purses. I was able to do this because the last times i bought pants i focused to have them in the same color scheme. Also, i tend to enjoy pants with patterns (though i do have basic items too), so i focused on getting blouses without patterns so they would work perfectly with most pants. Heck, i have a pair of pants that has almost all my color scheme in their pattern and literally look nice with all my new blouses. The concept of "work capsule" is what inspired me to go this way about clothes. Also i had a major wardrobe revamp because i realized I was stuck in a wearing only black and dark colors bubble for *years*. After a while i realized i truly enjoy hippie, beach style clothing, unique jewelry, handmade pieces etc. All the Indian / boho attract me a ton! I'm extremely happy i made this decision but i can say that the advice found in this video is extremely useful!! Now i don't buy anymore multiple pants, shirts, blouses etc in the same exact color, and i don't go for same shape different color either. To me, the best of all worlds, is getting mixed up in both color, shape, texture as long as it fits the majority of my wardrobe.

Sadly, a lot of returned products never get sold again, just end up in the landfills. So, returning an item is not that sustainable
@NajaSierra
2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but which brands are you talking about? I have worked in fashion for a long time, including fast fashion, and I have never ever experienced a store not restocking an item that was returned, unless there was something broken about it. Maybe buying from sheen or something? I don’t know, I don’t take those brands into consideration, I’m assuming most of you don’t shop there.
@angelaa.9915
2 жыл бұрын
@@NajaSierra I’m not the OP but I believe that this commonly happens with larger retailers like Amazon, Target/Walmart, and the like. The sellers on retailers like those find that it’s more cost effective to dispose of the item (or even let the customer keep the item) than paying to ship it back to the warehouse and restock the item.
@psygeek961
2 жыл бұрын
@@angelaa.9915 It seems somewhat more common for 'online' vs. in-person returns (i.e., in-person its usually a matter of just hanging it back, just like they hang back things from the fittin groom). But any sustainable brand will gnerally not engage in throwing it out (and it may just end up in some sale)
@pohoka_
2 жыл бұрын
@@NajaSierra It's positive that you've never experienced it but it is not always the case. Amazon’s name comes up in a lot of articles about sending returned products to the landfills including clothes. But luxury brands also has a bad reputation for burning unsold and returned clothing. Burberry revealed in 2018 that they burned unsold clothing, Coach also destroyed their returned bags in 2021. They do this because they think that discounts or donating the items will devalue their brand. Over the years, brands like H&M, Nike, Louis Vuitton, Urban Outfitters, Michael Kors, Eddie Bauer, Victoria's Secret also have been accused of destroying their products. Not specifically returned goods but brand new unsold products. For brands who sell cheap clothing, it is sometimes easier and cheaper to throw away returned items than invest time and energy to check the condition, restock and resell them. If customers can try on the clothes in the store, it is a good thing because they can make sure they want the item, and they will wear it and won’t return it. This is the most sustainable thing people can do (next to second-hand shopping, low buy and ethical shopping). Online shopping is more problematic but you can purchase consciously there too. Or if someone really wants to return something, they can give it to a friend instead or resell it online.
