@@RoadsideRC I think the best way to do so would be to record using a phone that has a slow motion capture, turning the wheel and then letting it go, counting the frames between letting go and the servo starting to move. Otherwise you would likely need special equipment. I have found a video where someone tested the ELRS system with a tool and found it to have about 2,5-5ms of latency in F1000hz for transmission and 400hz for PWM. Thats about as fast as a Sanwa MTS running in SHR mode. With upcoming firmwares we might even be able to use SSR mode servos; Futabas SBUS servos already seem to be supported and should have even lower latencies.

Youll never see it. Flysky teased different protocol support over 2 years ago for the NB4 pro version only. That was 3 firmwares ago. Id assume futaba/sanwa proprietery programming protocols arent easily interacted with. If anyone will do it, its flysky as it benefits them the most by having cheap and readily available recievers directly on amazon. I keep my 4pm plus for gyd550 programming, i move the r334sbs reciever to the car to dial my gyro, and then plug back in the flysky reciever and go back to ch3 gain only on the 550 after my adjustments are made. At 4:24, it shows the throttle is adjustable. Do you have a video for that specifically? I searched and didn't find one. Not new to Edge TX or RadioMaster. This is my first surface radio. Basically, I want reverse on a switch. Speed on a curve: crawl - Medium speed. This is for the kids to learn so I don't want 100% max speed. I want the rigger to be just speed control, not fwd/rev. I've got to figure out how to do that with the mixer.
@RoadsideRC
4 ай бұрын
That is an interesting quandry! Perhaps you can set custom throttle curves - but have the reverse flat. That would eliminate reverse. Then use mix to reverse the throttle channel by a switch. Not 100% sure it will work, but might. Using the throttle curve, you could also still allow the kids to have a normal reverse, but do so at a greatly reduced power.

The receivers do not have gyros in them, and I did not see anything about traction control. FYI - the Spektrum AVC is also not a traction control function. It is just a heading-controlled gyro.

Hi there! This *might be good for your foray into drifting as well... just saying! :) I did screw up when I made my choice. I chose the ELRS version - which gives super fast control and long-distance range. BUT I should have chosen the 4-in-1 model. It is the one that can connect to EVERYTHING. Nice video but I still don't understand why and how this radio is "better" than other radios? Sure, it has EdgeTX and ExpressLRS, but how does this actually make it "better" than other radios? 99% of rc car drivers do not need super mega hardcore long range, so having it only makes it "better" for 1% of drivers. EdgeTX means what exactly? Other radios do what they are supposed to do so how can EdgeTX be "better"? I don't get it. To me, it is like having a SWISS ARMY KNIFE in the kitchen and all you need to do is cut onions and salary. You just need a knife. All the other features are not necessary and useless. Thanks.

Good question! It depends on how sophisticated you get with your controllers and the variety you want. Examples of how this is better than your average radio (and we are still scratching the surface): - The 4-in-1 model can connect to MANY other receiver types. Futaba, Flysky, Radiolink, Spektrum, etc. One controller to connect to your other vehicles, without needing to buy new receivers. - FULLY programmable. You can literally assign ANY channel to do ANY function, and set rules up around the interdependencies of the channels. - It is open source - so the smart folks (not me) can get in and customize the program to add additional features. This tech has been in the drone world for awhile now, and the folks on that side love it. Gives them full control. It is up to the surface community to see how we want to use it.

@@RoadsideRC Hey, thanks for the reply! 1. The 4 in 1 module is definitely something that other radios cannot do. On the other hand, my gasoline car wont drive on diesel either. Never been an issue though. I just fill it up with gasoline and not diesel. Problem solved. So not a real problem for most people. 2. Are Futabas, Spektrum and Sanwa not fully programmable? I never had a problem setting up endpoints, expo and what not on my lousy Futaba 3PK. 3. Again, I hear open source all the time, but it doesn't mean anything to me because nothing else I use is open source either, and I never had an issue with that. You know what I mean? Windows 11, my Samsung TV, Z Fold 4, DJI Drones, my Car, my fridge and all my other gadgets are not Open Source. Nothing I use on a daily basis is open source, so why would I care about it now on my Transmitter? I unterstand this comes from the drone world and that it gives them "full control" but what does the "full control" really mean? As long you can set up your basic channels, your drone will fly. Right? That said, I am not hating on anything, I actually bought this radio, but since I cannot connect it to my TRAXXAS receivers yet, I questioned by purchase. Thanks again.
@sea_kerman
8 ай бұрын
@@1timeemailaddress811 Ha ha ha, endpoints and expo are the least of what it can do. I'm relatively new to EdgeTX so there's probably even more that it can do, and I'm not sure how well this might apply to surface stuff, but that logical switches page lets you set up fairly complex boolean logic rules, you can do some really cool stuff with custom curves, make your steering less sensitive with higher throttle, fade rear wheel steering in and out, have it adjust things based on battery voltage or signal strength, turn on and off timers based on other timers based on several logic gates, etc. And that isn't even getting into LUA scripts and programs.
@1timeemailaddress811
8 ай бұрын
@@sea_kerman I comprehend everything you've mentioned, yet it seems you've overlooked my main argument. None of those characteristics necessarily elevate its status to being "better"; they simply render it distinct. Have you thoroughly read my post? It appears not. Nonetheless, thank you.

I would love to know the latency difference between the 4&1 model vs the ELRS. For someone that already has a ton of RC vehicles with receivers installed it seems the 4&1 would be the better choice for just regular line of sight driving as it can bind to pretty much every receiver in the industry. Then you wouldn’t need to buy all new receivers for every vehicle and if you want to do long range you always have the ability to add the nano ELRS module. The one thing I really like about the ELRS is the fact the receivers all support telemetry right away. Plus the nano ELRS module can do 1000 Mw so you would get even better long range performance with the module vs the built in version. What are people’s thoughts on the two radios.
@RoadsideRC

After my experience, I actually 100% agree with you! Getting the 4in1 and adding the ELRS module is much smarter. I just made the wrong choice when initially purchasing. I do have the 4in1 module for mine coming, so will be interested to see how it does.
@ethrrr
10 ай бұрын
Elrs is 1000hz at its finest mode, and protocols from 4in1 module are most likely less than 100hz... it's not bad. It is going to be, at least the same latency, as with your previous radio, with the same receiver. I fly fpv, and there is a redpine protocol included in the 4in1 module, and it's very fast also. 4in1 and a cheap elrs(or diy) module, for me is the best way too :) There's also a gemini elrs module..and its simply brilliant, paired with a diversity receiver, range and consistency are going to be extremely good.
@dana2750

@@RoadsideRC I think I’m going to order the 4&1 to keep it as simple and streamlined as possible. If I didn’t need 10 ELRS receivers I would definitely go with the ELRS version from the start. you lost telemetry on the radiomaster because the RX only transmits at 100mw where the transmitter transmits at 250mw. you will lose telemetry way before losing control signal. I believe you can get high power RX if you need longer range telemetry. also going with a RX with a external antenna will GREATLY improve the range of both TX and RX. as for reversing your channels the software is SO powerful there is probably 20 ways you could reverse a channel. also you define what channels and knobs do what. its simply a matter of some button pushing to move steering to CH 1 if you want to. there is almost NOTHING you cant edit or change in edgeTX. its crazy. this radio is 20 years ahead of anything else in surface world. this radio is like the change from crystals to 2.4ghz.

Oh brother wait till you learn what EdgeTX can do. You can set channel one to be any input you like. So you can set turn on 1 in about a second. Each ELRS tx and rx has a built in wifi chip. Most people running ELRS build the firmware for their rx, it has the option to set a binding passphrase( think wifi password) that gets built into your firmware. So when you get a new rx that you have built the firmware for you simply flash the rx over wifi, a cell phone works great and now that rx will bind the moment it sees your receiver. On the computer side you can backup and reconfigure the radio. So even if you hit the limit of cars for the radio. You can have as many cars as you want just load back the configs for the cars you are driving. Even better is if you run the same config for two different models you can just use one saved slot. A bunch of the drone guys setup one basic config and run it on multiple drones. Using the 'model' for different configs not different models. The rabbit hole goes really deep here.
