I was wondering if you were going to or if you had any subwoofers in mind for that stereo pair .. personally I think they're nice but when you're already spending that kind of money, it's like you must cover that 20 to 40 Hz range..or at least reasonable response down to 27 Hz . Also, I see no reason why a good pair of stands for those speakers should cost 25% of the total .. that's a bit off .. seems like the stand price could easily be cut in half.

Yes these are well reviewed elsewhere and they should be for $6,000US. Making these your new reference, can I suggest 2 other stand mount loudspeakers to review ! both from Denmark ( so close to you ) both similar design, both in the $4,500US bracket and both could change your new reference, noting they are both cheaper, in fact their pricing inc shipping to your door world wide. 1) Radiant Acoustic Clarity 6.2 and the new Buchardt yet to be released ( info on their web site ) the E50 ( added to my short list as possible end game monitors ) Can we tempt you 😀
@KarolOlen-ty2lg
Күн бұрын
Buchardt are headed for 3rd failure for me, now not with one, but with two passive radiators in E50. Which means sub par low level listening, unless one will pressurise the cabinets on volumes, which I rarely listen to (70-80dB). Hence my selection is always limited - as low level listening is nemesis of so many stand mounts is not even funny (exception to some Focals etc.) This issue plagued every single Buchardt released so far and is present of so many (fake) KZitem champions like KEF r3 (but for different reason, current starving design).

Super review, Srboljub. I too have met superficially ordinary people who turned out to be anything but -- a neat analogy I thought. Personally, I don't usually bother much about the looks of my gear anyway if it sounds good. Naturally I wish I could at least hear the PlatiMons in the flesh, or even better buy a pair, but though I could at a pinch afford them, they exceed my self-imposed hi-fi budgetary limits and so will probably forever remain just an ideal. You mentioned Open Baffles, which surprised me as I don't remember your ever talking about them before. I myself am a great fan and have built my own Zen Master ZF15M clones (for c. £1300). IMHO they sound considerably better than closed box speakers in similar price ranges. Big and airy, astonishing holographic soundstage. Delicious sweetness and engaging musicality that makes one forget about nitpicking over technicalities -- not that they lack technical subtleties. Maybe you'll treat us to a review of a pair or two of Open Baffles and compare them with your new PlatiMon babies. I can but hope, because it might help me evaluate to what degree my assessment of OBs might be true and accurate. Only a few reviewers, most notably Ron at New Record Day, seem to be turned on to them -- but you have this special gift for description and I'd very much like to hear your take on them. 🙂

I listened to OBs in other systems. They truly fill the whole room with sound. But there is a problem that I wouldn't know how to solve in my listening space. For example, one of these systems gets good clarity only when speakers are almost 2m (6 feet) into the room. I can't give up any more than 1m (3~4 feet) of my living space. It is especially critical here because I live in a brick and concrete apartment that is less forgiving of close wall placement than most American houses. Maybe you remember Audiofiliac talking about his time in NewYork and experience with concrete walls. So it's a rabbit whole I'm not ready to open yet.
@johncallaghan3097

@@iiWiReviews Thanks. What a pity, and commiserations!😥 I have my O/Bs only about 3' into the room and they sound great there. They're on castors at the front of the baseplate and teflon glides at the back so I can easily roll them back when required (they weigh a ton with their 40mm thick solid oak baffles). This also tilts them up a little at the front which optimises their sound from the listening seat. One can also build more compact versions with smaller (i.e. less than 15" diam) full-range Lii Song drivers. They reputedly sound just as good, and can probably go closer to the wall, albeit with a slight hit in the bass department (but a sub might help there).

I don´t really understand the ´ball bearing´ suspension. When a driver moves in one direction the speaker moves opposite, how can this be a good thing? 🤔 In addition the steel balls couple the speaker to the floor because they will transmit vibrations. I like my speakers to be rock solid so the only movement comes from the cones (with a minimal damping of 1mm rubber pads under the speaker, also prevent them from sliding of)

I have these in house for review currently. There is a lack of naturalness in the midrange with an uncolored front end. If you have a warm and natural sounding dac, preamp, etc. Or are running tubes. You can get the midrange magic to come through. They are a very transparent and highly detailed/nuanced sounding speaker. You just need to be more careful than usual with them compared to other speakers. One reason IIWI may not be hearing a lack of midrange naturalness is because of his dac. I just received a lampucera and that helped the midrange quite a bit. Before that i was using a ladder schumann and a holo audio cyan 2. Lampucera is the best match for sure.

It's been some time so take this with a pinch of salt. Arendals sound bigger and more forward from my memory, but they can't pinpoint and layer with this precision.. It's like bigger but less precise canvas. They are less coherent across frequency range and ask for you to sit further away for all frequencies to blend nicely - most big speakers do. Highs are very precise but not as smooth, there's a bit of hash and some matching care is needed. Platimons are more natural and smoother there.

Not a fan of this speakers tweeter only going down to 3khz.....and I guess, I'm not a fan of full MTM speakers either. Glad you like them though. I like the looks of them.

I agree with new record day on these speakers. They are too much zoomed in on detail, causing disconnected experience of the music.

Why not use music to explain the sound? I don't know what your home made speakers sound like..
