🎥 Witness the elegance of this rare tapir sighting in Singapore at Punggol park connector on last Sunday morning (10 Sep 23)!
The Malayan tapir stands out as the most sizable among the four tapir species, with lengths reaching up to 2.5m and weights tipping at 500kg. It's easily recognizable by the unique white band adorning its back.
Unlike its counterparts residing in the Americas, the Malayan tapir calls the lowland tropical rainforests of Peninsular Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Myanmar its home.
This magnificent creature is sadly marked as endangered on the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List. Rough estimates suggest a mere 2,500 of these tapirs are left roaming freely in their natural habitats.
