If you are planning so, then try to buy the Nintendo world championship nes edition (Japan version too) and then sell it sealed to make even more money

you missed his point my friend, they're with his retirement plan because he'll play them when he's retired not because he'll sell any one of them. Which is also how I feel about the games I love. Where isn't one game in my collection for any library that I don't either stand behind as a good game or has nostalgic value.

As an rpg fan, it pains me when gamers who don't like rpgs have them in their collection. My brother in law has earthbound and orge battle motbq CiB sitting on a shelf and he doesn't even touch rpgs at all. It's a crime against humanity in my opinion.

Covid most greatly effected mid to lower-end games. All of those games were already super expensive before the pandemic.

I agree with your sentiment to an extent. You should definitely have a diverse portfolio. Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, cash, real estate, all of that, the boring stuff. After that, its not bad to have some play around investments with crypto and collectibles. Sure its volatile, you should just be smart with your money. Video games, my rule is if its not cheap, I'm not bothering. I'd never spend more than $200 on an old Saturn game or $500 for a CIB SNES game. You'd be hard pressed to find me buying any game for more than $60. It usually works out for me.

I think we have very different understandings of a retirement plan. For example, when I say my collection is or my retirement plan, I mean I plan on spending my retirement catching up on all the games

Futurama probably went up because the show is on Disney plus. I don’t know if it was just added but I just noticed it on there so maybe that’s why

My collection is "worth" a considerable amount, when i started 8-9 years ago it was worth a tiny fraction of what is now and i don't care. Let it all drop to zero i still won't be selling, my plan has always been to retire as early as possible so i can do the things i like; the many one being playing video games without the horrible feeling of guilt that i should be making better use of my time to retire earlier... My S&S ISA is my retirement plan as well as my 2 rentals, i know for sure they aren't going anywhere.

Overall I agree with you Y2K, but you could sell what you have there and it could work as a down payment on a piece of real estate.
@mjj8560

You half to cut that price in half most likely and a down payment is at least 20% percent

Have about 110 ps2 games including that completed futurama. Been debating selling, they are getting older and they are so easy to emulate. I’ve made Roms of them and play them on my Rog Ally. Just don’t want to sell them and regret it., also have about 50ps1 and about 150 360 now. I’d sell ps1/ps2 if anything.

Looks like autocorrect got you, to everyone else: he meant "Disc Rot" But IMO disc rot often has more to do with storage than anything. Did you keep your games in a place warmer than 75 degrees (garage, attic, car, etc), near any direct sunlight (even in the case), etc? I even have DVD-Rs that are over 20 years (maybe 25) that still look fine and work, but I keep my house cool and don't leave them in un-air conditioned areas.

Its certainly a retirement plan. The current generation of retirees do stuff like golf, fishing, watch cable tv. Our generation (millennials) will be likely playing videogames. I know you mean retirement in the financial sense, but what are we going to do with our time?

As you have said in recent videos, gaming - nevermind collecting - is a total luxury. As such, you should look at the value of your collection as a % of your overall financial situation. Occasionally you should rebalance it relative to your other assets. This may mean selling some OR buying more. Personally I like that video games is an asset that may not correlate with other asset classes.

The people that are collecting for money are ruining the hobby, I jam with the people who collect games and play them not just for clout and "i have this rare game". I never plan on retiring I enjoy my games and play them and want to pass them on to my kid. I'm not worried about the value

My computer app tells me the value of my video games collection is worth well over $192,000 dollars and thats not adding a bunch stuff such as controllers, consoles, and many other collectibles. I still don't look at my video games as a retirement plan. My crypto and Bitcoin portfolio is my retirement plan. Yes I do own my own one family house and several vehicles. I do own all those games you have in this video with the exception of the neo geo stuff because I dont collect for the neo geo.
