You are right; they only show a small picture of what they do to be successful at KDP. I need help with keyword research and which keywords lead to choosing a niche for KDP. Most KZitemrs give a quick "glimpse" of their keyword search, but they never really show you how they land on an actual niche or the backend keywords they use based on their searches. Also, they only show some of the tools they use for keyword research and how they compare them for accuracy and viability. When I compare Publisher Rocket, Book Bolt, Book Beam, KDP Spy, etc, for accuracy, each one gives me vastly different numbers on the viability and usability of a keyword phrase. What am I looking at to know if a keyword phrase is worthy of me diving into that niche? BSR? Competition? Monthly Sales? Number of Searches? All of them? Some of them? One software will say a keyword phrase is good, and another will say it is terrible. I dunno... The second thing I need help with is the title and subtitle. Most of them [KZitem KDP gurus] tell you to do keyword research on the title and subtitle, but I've noticed the best sellers on KDP rarely use keywords like "coloring book for toddler children 3-5 years old," yet they rank for those keywords. Instead, I see the best sellers using titles like "Color Me Cute" for a coloring book, yet they rank for "coloring book for toddler children 3-5 years old." Ads, possibly? I need clarification. They stress using long-tail keywords [in the title and subtitle], but that isn't the practice I'm observing. I'm beginning to wonder if they dangle the carrot to get views on KZitem and only tell you enough to keep you watching and creating ridiculous products (like journals, notebooks, composition books, blah, blah, blah) that they know would never sell without teaching you how to build anything valuable and profitable. They seem more interested in creating channels under the illusion of helping, but it is really to sell their courses. I've joined many of their Facebook pages, and they are dead! The KZitem gurus never comment or answer any of their member's questions. Yet, I will see a course 'pop up' based on members' struggles. Facebook is a place where they get members and then gather large amounts of helpful information from those members to create more courses to sell.

This is such an amazing comment! I want to try and address all of your questions as best as possible without being able to show you. However, these are the exact things I am hoping to cover in this new series so thank you for taking the time to type out all of these questions. Keywords: I like to start with my big "umbrella keywords" as I call them such as Activity Book in Publisher Rocket. Then based on monthly searches and competitor ratings, I select more specific keywords under that umbrella, such as Large Print Word Search for Adults. Then I make a list of keywords that seem promising and take that list over to Book Beam. There I am looking for keywords that have a decent amount of searches with a manageable number of competitors and good monthly sales. I also will look at how the top sellers in the niche are performing and write a list of common characteristics their books have. That is kind of a big-picture idea of how I decide if I will consider entering a niche. (This will be one of my first few videos in the series) Titles: I agree that using a well-searched keyword phrase in your title or subtitle is very beneficial. However, I also believe how you go about doing this is very dependent on the niche you are publishing in. The example you gave would make a better subtitle than a title. One of my best sellers also has a creative title with my highly searched term as the subtitle. Gurus: I 100% agree with you and not too long ago I actually posted a video about this because it can be so discouraging if you follow and listen to the wrong person who just wants to build a "KZitem" list. That is also why I don't watch KDP or Etsy videos from channels that are only about "side hustles" because they are just looking for quick subscribers without really doing the business themselves. I also am in groups exactly like what you describe. That was a big motivation to start Empires From Home because I felt like an honest viewpoint from the beginner's perspective was lacking and was much needed! So hopefully, this channel is providing information that is actually helpful because that is all I am striving for. I, of course, plan on creating Facebook groups and possibly a course one day but all from the goal of helping people as much as I possibly can. Even when we do move into other things like groups, my goals are to never be just another "talking head" on KZitem, but someone who is truthfully in your corner and helping you succeed alongside me! I really appreciate your comment and for taking the time to watch my video and hope you stick around :)

Nice comment. Yes, all you said is true. But why someone will give you the exact method , especially for free and for 2-3k views on the video? Nothing is really free in life, so I am not expecting something free from any of the kdp youtubers. Why ? Because probably they`ve had big loses in the beggining, time, effort, stress. risk, so now if they have the success recipe for kdp, do you really think they will just tell you everything to get 15 $ for the video views ? I am struggling too, 0 sales last days, but I keep trying. Good luck!

Awesome idea to do this public because this is exactly how I learned on kdp via a bought course I took. He did a low content book case study and I followed along and did the exact same thing he did and it really really launched me and helped me, so this is so awesome you are doing this for free! Great idea, girl!

@EmpiresFromHome it'll be fun to see your process. I am now focused on children's picture books, so I'm not doing a ton of low / medium content atm, but still fun to learn.

As a former teacher, children's books have been on my list for a bit now. That is something that I want to start figuring out once we get into the new year. Have you ever thought about doing coloring book or activity books to go along with your stories?

@EmpiresFromHome yes, I'm making a coloring book as well! It may release a week after the release of my book on Tuesday, though... I am using a fiverr gig as I do not like midjourney coloring pages for the most part, and my pages are a bit complicated... but I'm not happy with the gig... he's not awful but not as good as I would have hoped. I have now hired someone to edit them and make them better, lol! It's definitely a learning process. Children's books are an intense investment, but they are so much fun! I haven't done an activity book as I'm not sure what I would do, but maybe for the series of children's books, I can incorporate an activity book down the road. For each release, I'm planning on doing a coloring book as my age group for this one is 4 to 8. My last book was younger, 2 to 6.

I love that! I have had a hard time finding good people on Fiverr as well. I was thinking about looking into Upwork as an option as well.

Be careful with opening another account with Amazon KDP. Amazon does not allow two or more accounts. There was a guy whose $250k account was shut down for this reason.

Oh yes, I know that is a big deal. I am not going to create another account, but rather a separate pen name that I will publish these books under. :)

I'm very curious to see where this goes. I clicked on your video - I wasn't going to. I see TONS of KDP videos, and I''ve had some experience with KDP, but no success. Puzzle books, adult coloring books, etc. Everyone and his brother is doing it. I had an idea for diabetic friendly cookbooks (I am diabetic), and even recently finished putting one together, but now I'm hearing that nobody buys cookbooks anymore. I know I wouldn't. You can find any recipe you might be interested in online. My real passion is writing fiction. But that's a whole other monster, and nobody does courses on how to be successful on KDP selling fiction - only nonfiction. So, that's kind of where I'm at with it all. I'll be curious to watch your adventure unfold.

I'm glad you watched it. The cookbook may not sell several copies everyday, but an ebook for that may do really well. Even though we think people just use the internet for recipes there are still people buying cookbooks to use. I used Book Beam to look at search volume for a diabetic cookbook and it is currently searched on Amazon 12,792 times per month. Fiction would also be great to look into, but it is for sure harder to find since most people in the KDP world do not practice a whole lot outside of writing children's books. You might want to look into Matthew Holmes. He does KDP with a science fiction book and does really well. He has a course, but I am not sure if it is 100% dedicated to the writing process or more the marketing aspect afterwards. Hopefully I will be able to offer some insight for the medium and low content side of books if you decide to go down that route as well :)
