As soon as I see Charles Dance in something I start to suspect him of crime. He just plays criminals so well.

I can't remember a more entertaining boozehound than Tuppence in this film. Her performance could be the definition of British understatement. But it's the vicar who steals every scene he's in, and his furtive tippling in the churchyard brings back memories of my adolescence.

I agree with you. It's a good adaptation if you just pretend that's some other middle-aged, uppercrust British couple and not our beloved Tommy and Tuppence. They did an excellent job of fitting Miss Marple in.

I really liked this adaptation even if it was very liberal with plot adaptations in order to incorporate Miss Marple into the proceedings. June Whitfield as Mrs Lancaster / Julia Stark is a particular delight, playing such a dark role when we are far more used to hearing her play Miss Marple herself in all the BBC radio adaptations of the books. Quite a role reversal for her!

Mrs Lancaster dressed as Little Red Riding Hood is an interesting metaphor and twist of the classic tale. Like the wolf who dresses like grandma to trick the girl, here is a very dangerous old woman dressed as an inoccent kid from a story.

Like others I love your channel. My mother would have loved this two as she was a big fan of the Agatha Christie TV series. Geraldine was her favorite actress to play Ms. Marple and even if she watched all of the other movies David Suchet was her one and only Poirot.

I know I'm in the minority, but this is one of my favourite Christie books. I adore Tuppence & it's fun to see her fall into this gothic horror atmosphere. I'm willing to overlook some of the more convoluted elements, bcs the story works for T&T. (Every T&T book involves a concussion & a house with secret criminal operations😂). I was thrilled about this adaptation, but eded up disappointed & angry. They turned my Tuppence into a self-pitying weakling when she's anything but +Miss Marple steals her thunder!😢 T&T should be very happily married & complement each other perfectly, precisely bcs they're so different. This Tommy's a misogynist jerk! Although some of the other changes were improvements, the MANY additions ironically didn't add much😢 I want another adaptation, also starring Charles Dance😊❤

@leedowx Why did KZitem block it? It's not like you upload the whole movie. You just did a commentary like plenty other videos on KZitem.🤔

I loved Tommy and Tuppence so much! By far my favourite characters from Dame Agatha Christie. While I am uncertain that anyone could do 'The Young Adventurers" better than I imagined them (Certainly, no one has so far) this was an exceptionally disgusting adaptation. I will add - that is NOT Miss Marple.

Having read the stories, the portrayals of Tommy and Tuppence in that film didn't work for me at all. The 1983 TV version had them coming across as 'an old married couple', but they weren't played like sticks in the mud that seemed to have forgotten how to have any fun.

I love Tuppence and Tommy. Somebody should do a version of _Sleeping Murder_ with Tuppence and Tommy instead of Miss Marple in revenge for this. (And because it would be an interesting contrast with the young couple, Gwenda and Giles. I want to say I read somewhere they were considered by Christie for this, but I may be making that up.) Wasn't that another book where the old lady asks about the dead child? I know there is another one, anyway.

“…in revenge for this” 😂. Indeed. And yes, there is an old lady in a sanatorium who says the same thing to Gwenda. It’s not key to the plot per se but I love the little tidbits that tie the Christie-verse together.

I wouldn't get your hopes up about the David Walliams T&T. I like Jessica Raine but they have no chemistry and Tommy doesn't seem clever at all. Somehow they make stories that should be thrilling very dead. I love the Francesca Annis version

Enjoyed your review, and I would say this combo wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. June Whitfield was a delight as the killer, and most of the acting was fine. However, the actor playing the US soldier may be one of the worst pieces of acting I have ever seen anywhere. As lifeless as Aunt Ada's corpse.

In the adaptation, the killer loses her child and goes crazy because she's from the same family as her husband-cousins in that family seem to have intermarried for generations, which has consequences. This type of nasty detail has been added in other episodes as well, which makes me think that the writers have certain complexes. But overall the episode is not bad, albeit inaccurate.
