Episode 5 of Ahsoka had a lot of info to dive into. But this particular line gave Anakin so much character, as well as a gentle nod to the Original Trilogy. #Disney #Ahsoka #StarWars
This line also confirms that it's not just Ahsoka's own memories or something going on in her own head, but that it's actually the consciousness of Anakin communing with her in the world between worlds. She wouldn't know that Luke gave him the "I will not fight you father" line.

Now if she's talking to like an actual manifestation of the force pretending to be Anakin, thats also kinda weird as well, since we haven't seen that happen. Or with looking at the dialogue, especially with the reference to what Luke said to Vader that I doubt Luke would have told Ahsoka the exact dialogue of, the comments Anakin makes about not being at Mandalore, and just the overall way its presented, its more like;y they're implying this is some version of Anakin post ROTJ manifesting in the WBW. @billyb7465 No. The Sith are the Force out of balance, not the Dark Side itself. The Force is like a valley. The Dark Side is the river in the valley and the Light Side is the riverbank. You can't just destroy the river, because then the valley dries up and dies. Likewise, you can't allow the river to overflow and destroy to valley, so the riverbank needs to be strong enough to keep the river in check so the valley is alive and in harmony. The Sith are individuals attempting to destroy the riverbank so the river can overflow, while the Jedi are the ones who try to reinforce the riverbank and stop them from doing so. Anakin was meant to be the one to ensure the Sith can never try again. The eradication of the Sith are what will keep the river down permanently, the riverbank strong and intact and leave the valley harmonious forever. True balance of the Force is a Light Side powerful enough to keep the Dark Side in check, not outright destroy it.

@@billyb7465That is kind of right, except the Dark Side is a natural facet of the Force, while the MISUSE of the Force (aka the Sith) are the imbalance. The balance of the Force is simply a Light Side strong enough to keep the Dark Side in check.
@erinm9445

@@billyb7465 My reading is that the "dark side" of the force is basically being ruled by your emotions in how you use the force. The "light side" is using rationality and your values for how you use the force. The Jedi tried to totally eradicate emotion and attachment as their ideal for force use, for fear of where those could lead. But by trying to eradicate it, that left someone like Anakin vulnerable. He needed somene to help him learn to work with his emotions so they didn't consume him. Since there was no one there to teach him that, Palpatine was able to take advantage and manipulate. Anakin's fall to prove the Jedi right, because he wasn't able to control his emotions, and it was his fears, emotions, attachments that led him to the dark side. (This is why Yoda didn't want Luke to go save his friends in Empire). But the irony is that that was the Sith philosophy too, but embracing the dark side instead of trying to prevent it. In fact, they were both wrong, and its Vader's redemption that proved it. His emotions and attachments lead to his fall, but they also directly caused his redemption and turn back to the light. To have the force in balance means to honor and use your emotions, but not to be overpowered by them and at their mercy. Luke is the epitome of this. Interestingly, Kanan Jarrus is a great example too. Ahsoka is almost there, but her imbalance comes from being afraid to let anyone in after everything that happened with Anakin and the Jedi. And of course there's Anakin, who learned balance the really hard way. The four characters with the greatest balance (other than Anakin himself) all received and embraced Jedi training (at least for a long time), but also lived a lot of their life away from the Jedi order. Doesn't seem like a coincidence.

@DunkIeosteus

@@wandered_rogue22 nope. His dark side had no purpose. He only became evil so that he could save padme and even that was a sham. He doesn’t try to bring balance in revenge of the Sith because his plan is to kill all the Jedi and let the sith rule the galaxy, which isn’t balance if you asked me. He only brought balance to the force when he killed palpatine at the end of return the Jedi after his son brought him back to the light side. He never really believed in the dark side, he regretted all of his actions. Anakin thought it was too late for him but his son was able to redeem him

i love that they didn't make Anakin just reset to the clone wars Anakin. he is both anakin skywalker and darth vader in this episode. existing in proper balance. I was really afraid that since his redemption on ROTJ h would be just a super light side force ghost but this is SO MUCH better than anything I could've hoped for. He is aware of his Vader side, doesn't try to distance himself from it but is able to keep it under control.
@Arander92

I hate to break this to you, but he is, in fact “just a super light side force ghost”. In order to be a Force Ghost you have to give in to complete and utter selflessness. He couldn’t use the dark side even if he tried. It’s just not in his nature anymore. But that doesn’t mean he doesn’t remember what it was like to be fallen. And he can use that memory of Vader to teach Ashoka a lesson. That’s all this is: a lesson

Wat was super interesting to me is how he tapped into the dark side in the end then went back to normal, showing his connection to the force as a whole(light and dark side)
@chazo1367

Yeah. If he were alive and could do that, he would be terrifying to face. Since he can switch between light and dark and not suffer negative effects from it. His light side is more fluid and graceful but when he switches to Vader his attacks becoming heavier and more brutal. Imagine the Vader like attacks but in the body of a full power ROTS Anakin who never got torched.

@@billyb7465 Anakin doesn't have to follow conventional force ghost rules. He is the Forces kid basically. Normal force ghosts wouldn't be able to use any darkness because it's a lightside technique. I loved the episode overall, and I loved the light saber battle in particular, but Anakin's characterization here was a little confusing. Was he Anakin or Vader here? Was he trying to help her or strike her down? Was he even real? My sense of things was that he wasn't real, and this was some kind of spiritual journey she went on. But the "I've heard that before" line harkens back to something that Ahsoka wouldn't know. She never saw Luke fight Vader.

I think it's meant to be a bit confusing to mirror Ahsoka's confusion. Is he the caring teacher and friend she once knew or is he the dangerous threat he became? Is this experience meant to guide her or break her? My interpretation is that it is Anakin and that he plays upon Ahsoka's fear and trauma over who he became to make her come to terms with that and reconcile the good and bad. In the previous episode Baylan taunted her about Anakin's legacy of destruction. But this one highlighted that he left behind more than just the damage he caused as Vader. Ahsoka is a part of that legacy. His lessons to her still have value and can help her to do good, thus allowing her to shape her own legacy and part of his.
