There is a lot more to this story. She was a brand new hire who had just gotten off her 3 month training in the middle of the holidays. She isn't speaking to her boss. She is speaking to 2 HR reps that don't know her. She had only positive feedback from her actual boss in the couple of weeks she was actually working. What this company was doing was laying off a massive amount of employees and trying to cite performance shortcomings rather than admitting the company overhired. I believe this would financially benefit the company as well because it is less money they potentially have to come out of pocket if they can put down someone was fired with cause. I love Candace but in this case I think she is way off base. Look at the whole conversation and get the full back story. If you listen to the whole thing, HR basically admits it really wasn't her performance but wouldn't discuss it further.

So you have the whole story from her or both her and her company? Do you work with her? You have the story she told you - which paints her in the best light and them in the worst. Companies hire and fire people all the time, they’re normally not invested in you, they’re invested in their bottom line. That’s a harsh reality but it’s the truth. If they wanted to fire her at the end of her probation period, for any reason, they can do so. Companies typically always use an HR rep to fire and hire. Whether or not they were in the wrong because she was potentially a good employee, now she has a video online defaming her previous employer because she wanted to tell her story for either attention, sympathy, or to direct people away from that company. Whatever the reason was, any future employer isn’t going to be keen to hire her next if she’s a liability like that. Most adults would take their loss and start looking for another job, because that’s how life goes sometimes. Furthermore, a company isn’t going to just wrongfully let someone go and then open themselves up for a lawsuit, especially not one with an HR department because that typically means they are corporate. If they did, then they deserve one, but most look out for their best interests.

Well if you dive further into this you'd know that she just started this job about four months back. She was on a 3 month track for training then it was Thanksgiving and Christmas so she really only "worked" for a few weeks. These people on the phone are folks she's never even heard of, like the company hired outsiders to come in and unload folks?? Her immediate boss and other higher ups where she was working have given her glowing reviews saying she's doing excellent work, so I can see her point. She knew this was coming and that's why she recorded because all her department were getting random email appts in 15 minute increments and it was clear that they were being let go. She even says at one point that if they are letting her go because they just have to do it to meet the bottom line or whatever, just say that, but don't say it's based on my work. She asked them for documentation to support claims that she's underperformng and they could not do that. So there is more back story to this than she's just some brat who did someone dirty. I have taken note of your constructive criticism & will use this as a lesson on how I can improve/be better in my next endeavor" Shake their hand & tell them to have a nice day with a smile. File unemployment as soon as you get home & spend that six months reflecting on how you can improve your work ethic. I remember getting a reference letter from an old HR manager at a company where I was fired because of a optimistic attitude & my easygoing nature- as well as my work ethic (It was my attendance that sucked but I was young and didn't really take it seriously, i could admit that) Two years later, they asked me to come back but by then, I was a stay at home mom. This one is outside the realm of your “expertise” Candace. They threw her in front of some “hr people” that she’s never met, to be fired for reasons they couldn’t specifically state, after receiving nothing but POSITIVE feedback from her manager during her SHORT onboarding process. 🙄 *How would you react* in that situation? She wasn’t disrespectful. She wants to know what “performance” was lacking if all her feedback was positive thus far??? Look this one up, people. Don’t just take what you’re being selectively spoon fed here. I thought we were the “independent thinkers.” 😏 She was only able to “perform” for about 3 weeks, between thanksgiving and Xmas, and there’s nothing abnormal about NOT closing deals in this time frame given this sales cycle AND time of year. She was on track. The company should have just been honest. Shame on Candace. *I would be proud if my daughter advocated for herself* and was unafraid to calmly seek clarification on her bogus firing!

She also specifically recorded the encounter because she knew that they were doing the exact same thing to everyone in her hire group regardless of their actual performance. This happens a lot in sales companies middle to upper management decide they need some cutbacks to preserve their salaries and so they trim a bunch of the entry level people and then put more pressure on those that remain to do the work of the people they just fired.

Who cares what she is saying. You’re completely missing the point. She is recording a meeting with a company that most likely assumes is private. And rightfully so. And then she post it on the internet which only creates a permanent publicly accessible video of that said meeting. You think any business worth a damn is just going to overlook that fact? The first thing they do now is look at your social media.

And you would be OK that they are saying it's performance based firing off of 2 weeks of work after training, and your direct supervisor has said your doing a great job? If you would have watched the original video you would know this is a sleezy company trying to avoid paying unemployment by make the claim of poor performance. Her attitude is based off of this because she knew this was coming from her other employee's that already went through this with not their boss but company hired "hitmen" to do mass firings. She wasn't fired for poor performance. She was new and essentially in training during the off-season. No company makes major purchases on a whim with a new AE in December and January, especially during a recession. She was laid-off with many others in a deceitful way under the guise of poor performance so they don't have to pay unemployment insurance. They use this as a tool to put someone in a bad financial spot where they are forced to sign a waiver agreeing to forefit rights and protections in order to get a small severance.

In all fairness sometimes companies are the sleezy ones. Sometimes they insist you lie and cheat their customers. If you decline/ refuse, they threaten to fire you. So in those cases, when an honest person works for a dishonest one, recording them is the Only way to protect yourself from them destroying you.

Recording the termination, i have zero issues with that. A lot of companies are pretty sleezy how they treat their employees, and maybe if things like this were aired, maybe sleezy and shyt bosses and companies would clean up their act. Now, her particular case, yeah she acts kind of entitled, but standing up for yourself is good. If she was underperforming her boss should have been communicating and training to get her where she should be. Maybe i just see things differently.

She does retain the right to ask why and provide proof of her performance. The concern for me is how unprofessional the company was. You don't send HR to fire someone, especially when they do not even know them. The supervisor should have had the courage to discuss this with her first and then add HR to go over severance . She was hired and kept on for several months because the boss and whomever else, saw there was potential. If this potential didn't produce , then, have documented proof of how you've assisted her in growing . If there wasn't a turn around after mentoring, coaching, clear directives and help, then you can definitely make a decision that is responsive and not reactive. Regardless of her recording them which probably lead to her becoming infamous , employers are going to think twice about how they let people go. It's not always what you do, it's how you do it that also matters.

She was working for Cloudflare, and the normal sales cycle is four months with that company, but she had been there only three months with Thanksgiving and Christmas part of that time. That’s why she is questioning why she is being let go so quickly. It took courage for her to film this and if you understand that some technology companies over hire and end up having to let people go under dubious circumstances, then you’ll understand that what she did isn’t as bad as it may appear.
