What I got from the video was that she got pregnant, which I believe is why she was throwing up. And the parents got involved and ran him away. And he ended up getting into a vehicle accident and died. That’s my perspective of this whole thing. In any event the girl is a wonderful actress. I remember the first time I watched this video. I started crying as soon as she started yelling. Life is too short. None of us are promised tomorrow. I know this is just a video, but it’s also very true in real life and it happens.

All the actors in this music video are amazing. The girl especially, but as a dad myself. I rewatched the beginning and looked at the dad. The guilt, hurt, and as a dad myself, the hurt isn't for the boy as much as its because you know you just told your lil girl the absolutely worst news in her life. So you are hurting because you know she is going to be hurting. I put myself in to his shoes, and its like maybe I had a falling out with the boyfriend, because I'm just trying to protect my lil girl. She is my whole world, and some boy comes along something about him doesn't sit well with me, or i'm letting my over protectiveness get in the way. But regardless I don't actually wish any harm on the boy.. Then you learn and have to come home and tell your kid that the boy who was her whole world is dead. I know as a dad myself. those tears, and that hate in her voice, hurts more than the punches. He doesn't block them, because you feel guilty for the situation. You might even think you deserve them somewhat. They don't hurt, cause she is so young and uncoordinated, but.. but knowing that the came out of her from extreme heartache and momentary hate. That hurts more than if the blows were coming from professional fighter. Still you know she is falling apart, so you grab her and hold on, and accept the pain, you accept the hate, you wish you could physically absorb all the pain from her, because you would rather live with it than to ever have her experience it. The she finally collapses into your arms, because now the lil girl needs her dad to hold her, and what do you do? you hold her, you caress her head, probably don't speak for fear your voice will set her off. You don't cry even though your dying inside, because she needs either rock to prop her up, or something to throw her hate at, and either way you can be that for her. you have to be that for her in this moment. Finally them mom is able to collect herself enough to take over and can see she about to be sick (whether its pregnancy or just grief) takes her to the bathroom. I know if it were me, i'd of probably left the house walked to the barn or shed, or where ever. Still in ear shot so you can hear your wife if she calls for you, but far enough out so they can't see you fall over finally let it out.

Me and my old man talked about life a lot, even when I was younger. One time he gave me an analogy for raising kids. "You can't hold your toddlers hand up the ladder to the slide forever. You have to at some point let them do it on their own and use what you taught them to figure it out for themselves. Even though you're not guiding them at that point. You're still there to catch them when they fail." I look back and he did that even when I became an adult. Moved out at 18. 6 months later my buddy and I got evicted cause we would rather party as young dumb kids. Told my dad. He said I'll help ya unpack, your room is still open. So in short, you have to let your kids use what you have taught them and let them make mistakes so they can grow as their own person, but to be there to help pick up the pieces when they inevitably do mess up and use it as a learning experience.

This song hits too close to home for my family. In 2017 my son and his girlfriend/best friend were backseat passengers in their friends car, out enjoying their teen years and on the way back, Sarah wanted to sit on the driver's passenger side because the other window didn't work, she'd picked up smoking at 17, my son didn't like her smoking but agreed and on the way back, trying to make his curfew at home, roads wet after it rained, the driver, lost control and hit a utility pole. My son had reached over to pull Sarah by hit but she was buckled, my son was knocked unconscious, suffered a compound fracture on his left forearm, a broken femur in his left leg but he woke up briefly to recall Sarah making odd noises and woke up in the hospital and then after rushing as fast as we could to get to him and upon arrival, we were told the impact was all on the same side my son had switched Sarah and she was pronounced dead at the scene, from a broken neck as well as internal bleeding, Israel my son didn't know for 3 days as we were told by his surgeon not to tell him until after his surgery due to it possibly causing issues, he'd come out of surgery hurting but thankfully was alright and I couldn't break the news to him and Sarah's brother had to give the devastating news, my son looked right into my eyes and I'll never forget the pain I saw coming from every fiber of his being when his eyes met mine and he cried like I'll never forget, is doing ok today but he has survivors guilt, even though it wasn't his fault, wasn't his time, there was a reason that she wanted to change seats, he tried to talk her out of smoking over and over yet didn't want her angry at him and friends of hers had harrased him relentlessly, telling him it should've been him and to kill himself and as a mother I wouldn't wish such a thing on my worst enemy and also as a mother, I unleashed on the parents of those still 17 year old, telling them that they need to dive deeper into their children's online activity and if he were to do anything to himself, they could be held also liable but my focus has been my son, going through treatment with him etc and he is just starting to live again, I'm seeing his happiness slowly return and the pain fade from his eyes. This song is so hard to listen to but is a great song.
