The way GTAIV portrays war is so different than the usual “GRAH WAR IS BAD now go take this rocket launcher and kill people for fun” theme most games have; to Niko, war is just war, it’s something thats part of both our nature and a Balkaners nature. The only reason why Niko is still mentally stuck in 1995 isn’t because of the war, but because of the way his friends died out of money and corruption rather than in battle.

@@-PaulEdits- Nope, that man is spitting facts, GTA V is a mess of over the top exaggerated stereotypes that tries so hard it falls on its face trying to be relevant or funny. RDR1, RDR2 and GTA4 tackle on heavier themes and use an amazing thing called "being fucking subtle when needed". And the older GTA games and even other Rockstar games have a lot more balls at making jokes and tackling themes that today's limp dick corpos would never touch, therefore making them, actually funny and much more timeless. Rockstar has lost its stones. The greatest example of this I can think of directly is the newest GTA online DLC and Yusuf Amir being brougt back. The Arab Billionaire that gave no shits to anyone and said the N-word like he owned is in the new DLC talking about how "things changed" and how he can't say what he wants because he "might get cancelled". My brother in Christ, why on Earth would a man with enough money to buy the social media websites of that world Elon Musk style, an Arab with literal mountains of gold, be worried about saying what he wants, especially outside of the public eye, if he cared about his reputation? Absolutely no balls for the sake of "cultural sensitivity". It became the very thing it once mocked and mark my words, GTA VI is going to have the weakest writing out of all their games, if their marketing people talking about how they're more "culturally sensitive" now is any indication. Remember, a studio is defined by their people and the people that made Rockstar's games great in past have all already moved on.

I worked with a Bosnian dude back when i was a nightclub bouncer many years ago and he was telling me about how when he was 7, his dad was an intelligence officer with the Bosnian government and they were both in the car getting the hell out of dodge when the Serbs were running amok. He told me how the long line of traffic gradually came to a stand still and armed men were walking along the line of cars peering in to the windows and asking to see documents. The one that stuck in his mind "looked like Rambo" with an LMG across his chest complete with a red bandana and ammo belt wrapped over his shoulder. His dad told him to hide in the back footwell of the car as the men worked their way down the line of cars. He couldn't see what happened but he heard his dad ordered out of the car and a long burst of gunfire. 7 year old him cowered in that footwell for what he thinks was around 4 hours before he peaked his head up at the window to see his dads bullet riddled body lying by the driver side door. I thought i had a shit childhood until I heard that story and reallised mine was a utopia compared to his.

You totally ignored the fact that NATO was also running amok, bombing literally everyone, Serbs, Slovenes, Bosnians, Croats, it didn't matter as long as we continued fighting each other, that's what NATOs primary objective, it was to create as much damage and chaos so we all could never recover, become divided up in their sick and twisted game of neo imperialist globalism, it was never about making peace, even after Yugoslavia started to fall apart and break away, it was the lies and propaganda, the foreign influence, from smuggling weapons inside to outright lies and propaganda from the western media, most if not all of allegations were solely laid against the Serbs have committed war crimes, that one sided narrative alone, all of the voices for pro-war intervention was enough to justify destroying everything and everyone, this is what has brought us to this situation, we were once living in co-existence, sure it wasn't perfect but back then, even now all of sudden we hate each other, with the west stirring up hatred between us all, we didn't destroy these countries, they did, the Americans, the British, the EU, NATO, they did this to us, they did this to all of us, they promised you all the world, independence, freedom, in the end they all lied to us, they all said that we would be better off, instead they all became worse off. NATO were funding and backing the KLA, UCK, an Internationally recognised terrorist Organisation, they help, supported them, killed police, peace keeping forces that were protecting civilians from these terrorist they were killing everyone, Serbs, Albanians, it didn't matter, they committed atrocities against everyone, war crimes, NATO bombed the hell out of the Kosovo province, whilst aiding these bastards that killed thousands of innocent people, while NATO was bombing civilians, claiming them as military targets. Also the Bosnians were killing their own, so did the Croats and the Albanians in order to frame it allegedly being Serbian attacks, it was also by Bosnian separatist pro western-sympathisers, shelling their own towns, their own people, even when UN special envoy was there, shelling the hospitals, refugee camps, then blame it on the Serbs for alleged war crimes, placed snipers and put bombs rigged throughout Sarajevo center in bread lines where people were receiving rations of food and water etc, blew up lines of civilians waiting in queue. It wasn't until the Finns step in to discredit all of the false pretense of Serbian war crimes, but the West didn't care if it was fabrication, they already had a predetermined outcome and motive to balkanize Yugoslavia and continue expanding NATO even closer to the Russian border.

Niko Bellic and GTA 4 was such a masterpiece and the only GTA story mode I had the urge to play. The main reason for this is because his actions were justified to a degree, with a believable backstory. He wasn't some hardened criminal or two bit gangster, he was just a man for hire trying to make a living. He was still moral to a degree and only did what he had to do. I believe Rockstar wanted to make this a point as there were at least a couple of missions where there was a morality option, like the mission where you could either kill Playboy X or Dwayne, with the morally incorrect option having obvious benefits. I felt that the morality and backstory for Niko made his actions more believable and justifiable. This isnt to say the other GTA games are bad or anything, there are all god games, its just that GTA 4 has a special place in my heart.
