I’m 60 and my wife 54 we are both retired with over $3 million in net worth and no debts. Currently living smart and frugal with our money. Saving and investing lifestyle in the stock market made it possible for us this early even till now we earn weekly.

Yep, single guy here and retired. Currently wearing some running pants that I have had since 1996. I am easily getting by on less than $1,000 a month right now. Have only spent $6,350 for the year, so far. I planned my retirement on $60,000 a year, so just banking the rest for any future big expenses. Went for 40-mile bike ride this morning and now watching the Cowgirls getting trounced by the Lions as I prepare dinner. Life is good.

Income doesn't matter as much if you aren't debt-free. When you retire, be debt-free first and then worry about your income afterwards. You can make it on less if you have no debt.

Think it's mostly an SEO thing. Most people are searching 'average' rather than 'median' just because they're likely trying to find the median but just used to using the 'average' as the go-to word for that. Ex. 'average joe' Usually average can be useful but it's just not in the context of money just due to the Pareto principal.

I’m 65 and we get by on 56k after taxes. Only 45 of that is taxable. But no debts and we don’t spend much anyway. We budget and save for big stuff like cruises and trips.

With my Pension and Social Security alone (assuming I wait until 67 or 70, 63 now) I will be above the median household in this example and to boot I am single and have a 401K, Cash, and brokerage accounts. House is paid off. Even still I worry a little about money in the future but I think I should be OK.

I'm grateful to our creator because our retirement income will be above the medium, and that was with a homemaker wife, and a sever TBI that kept me in therapy for almost a decade. Everyone please remember, no matter how much hard luck you think that you are suffering, please remember that any day you wake up is a good day, and there is always someone who has it a hell of a lot worse than you who is just happy to be alive. Be grateful and count your blessings.

It would be nice to make sure your numbers are accurate. I went to the website and what you were stating was the number of people. Income actually goes up in the 65+ age group. People have a lot more income than many people think. I suppose they are not spending it all or are they?

Right now my bride and I are on target to have as much “take home” income in retirement as we have enjoyed during our working years. With a few breaks here or there, we could even have significantly more! And hopefully fewer bills as our house will be paid for and we currently don’t have any revolving debt……..🤞
