Learned the hard way that this doesn’t fly in Pa. My friend was hunting next to a creek, the deer had its front two feet in the water. The deer bent down to drink and my buddy fired. The game commission nailed him. Said, that because the front feet of the deer were in the water that the shot was illegal. Said , the deer was considered to be swimming or wading in the water. BS charge! The guy tried to fight it but no luck, it ended up sticking. The WCO said, he could write us all up for aiding him in the commission of a crime cause we were part of his hunting party. Long after the hearing we found out that the magistrates are not familiar with game laws at all and basically just go by what the WCO tells them. Chances are, if he’d taken it to a higher court he’d have won. He was happy though just paying the fine and getting to keep his license 🪪
@Noobish_Camper55

That is insane. Licensing in general for hunting is crazy since most of the land is private management, and the few public spots I know of just are gravel parking lots with a game trail. Wardens just like to harass people in my experience with minor violations to get more money out of the few hunters that still go out every year.

Myself and a buddy purchased two plastic kid pools once and buried it in the ground just like this. The game warden seen this after walking our property, flipped both of them over and left instructions for us to call him. We were told that since this wasn't a natural water source, it was considered baiting and was illegal. I live in Georgia and during this time, baiting was illegal. Baiting has now became legal in Georgia, so I don't know if the kid pool idea is still illegal. I'd suggest checking your state laws before implementing this idea. I would also suggest if it's legal, there's might be cheaper alternatives ( Plastic kids pool)

Here in Michigan there’s so many different bodies of water , rivers and lakes and brooks and streams , there’s a water source every 100 ft in the woods . I have hunted public land my whole life and have been very successful over the last 45 years. Do your homework, look at topographical maps and study the lay of the land , find the food sources( farm fields , or natural resources like wild apple trees , oaks and acorns , brassicas and persimmons etc ) water sources , bedding areas , learn the movement of the deer and find the “bottlenecks /funnels” and “curtains” and ridges that they follow . Go the extra distance where most other people aren’t willing to go . Tread lightly , walk slow , keep the wind in front of you , stop look and listen , you’ll be surprised by how much more game you’ll encounter.

But, the rest of us mere mortals still cling to creative methods like food and water sources. I hunted a 195" buck in illinois for 3 years. Came close many times. I finally put him to sleep over a water hole I installed. My takeaway is this: if you want to kill big bucks you need to be creative, disciplined, and be able to adapt. Great video guy. Dont listen to the jealous haters who haven't killed shit and hate on anyone who does. Every guy im here would die to hunt that same blind and they all know it.
