That title legit made me panic because at first all I could read was "this is the last video I'm making..." Whoo, you sure know how to get your viewer's attention. 😅 I know you probably don't need one, what with having your disposable plates and cutlery, but an option you or others can try are countertop dishwashers. They're fairly small, portable, you can stick one on a shelf above the sink or next to it on a counter (if you have a counter), and the price isn't that bad. If you go through a bunch of dishes or live somewhere without a dishwasher like some tiny studio apartment, it can totally be a gamechanger. (The time savings alone can be worth it.)

"It's an accommodation." Thank you for saying those words out loud. Many of us have a hard time using things that make our lives easier, because somehow they're "unnecessary" ("can't you *technically* go without it?"), therefore buying it is "wasteful" and using it is "lazy." "This thing makes my life easier" is easy to dismiss. "This is an accommodation" more directly addresses the importance somehow.

My oldest adult son has ADHD and even he asks me why I have to set a timer when I boil noodles, or ANY TIME I turn on the stove. Because I don't want to burn the house down, that's why. Can't I just stay in the kitchen for 3 minutes? NO I CANNOT. I don't quite understand why people think I should stop "depending on" these simple things that help me, that don't hurt anybody but that *they* dont need or feel is necessary. Even when I try to make my life a bit easier, people think I should "try harder" 🤔 even some who know better.

I then started watching more of your content and it dawned on me that you were in fact describing my life. After procrastinating for at least a year and a half, I finally saw a psychiatrist yesterday. I have a diagnosis. I'm so sad I never got the support I so needed as a kid. But without you I would have spent the rest of my life thinking I was just naturally careless, spacey and incompetent, despite trying so incredibly hard to the point of burnout to do better. I really like how you touched on how disposable dishes and cutlery can be a big quality of life issue for those of us with ADHD. My home office is attached to my garage and I've set up a little alcove as a kitchenette so that I don't have to keep going in and out of the house all the time when I want to grab a drink or a quick bite while I'm working. I used to keep plastic dishes in there that I'd have to take back into the house to wash, but they'd inevitably end up as piles of dirty dishes in my office. Having something that I can just toss without having to remember to bring it back into the house has been a game changer in helping to reduce the clutter around me while I work.

I love the new space! If I may give you one tiny recommendation though: set your desk to be lower for working so it's more ergonomic. Your elbows should be at a 90° angle and rather close to your body 🙂This goes for both the standing & sitting height.
@moongirl8807

I just can't imagine this, can you elaborate on this? Like between what should be a 90° angle, body and elbow or elbow and desk or just the angle your arm is bend?
@charitykennedy4020

I second this. I noticed that right away when I saw her at her desk. Sitting desk height is too high and will cause aches/pains/potential musculoskeletal issues over time.

@moon girl: The elbows should be bent at 90 degrees, not splaying out to the side from the body. This allows the wrists to be in a neutral position. It will help prevent issues like carpal tunnel from developing. Google ergonomic desk setup for more info. There are great graphics to clarify this.

For anyone who struggles with dishes and has little space. A countertop dishwasher on a cart saved me in my last tiny kitchen. I still used disposable plates and stuff but it helped cut back on the number of cups and silverware I was purchasing. I could fill it from a (clean) bucket and it would drain into a bucket so it didn’t *have* to sit by my sink or a drain. I also put a camping sink in the sink for dirty dishes and would move them out of the sink when I needed the sink empty and free of dishes and it also worked to carry the dishes over to the small dishwasher. I picked one with a clear front so I could watch the dishes being washed too. It was quite soothing. No judgement on using disposables because I totally used those too! It was definitely a combination of what my budget would allow.

When I watch your videos I get mixed feelings, on the one hand I don't need as many accommodations to go through my day, does that mean that I don't have adhd? Less adhd? Am I cured? But then you say something like how tired you are after hyperfocusing and I've been exhausted most of my life. Have I worked so hard to pretend I'm NT that I've damaged my mind? There are so many things that I think would make my life easier but I'm afraid to take them because they aren't "correct". The thought of revealing my adhd at work is terrifying so I power through meetings where most of my energy goes to avoid fidgeting or stimming or getting distracted. I guess what I'm trying to say is I love how you can build your life around your needs, but I'm sad I'll never be able to.

This is a repost of a comment I made on a previous video. You bringing up the Stream Deck made me want to post it here as well. When the pandemic hit and I wasn't able to be as social, I had a lot more free time on my hands. Due to this, I used the money that I would normally spend while being social (going to the movies, out to dinner, etc) and that free time to set my apartment up with smart devices. Over the course of about 2.5 years, my apartment is mostly run by smart technology (mainly light bulbs/switches, a smart lock for my front door, among a few other handy devices). I also have an Alexa to help control these devices and I use it to help me with notifications, set reminders to switch my laundry over, have my shopping list on my Alexa app, among other things. In the morning, I just say "Alexa, good morning" and it tells me the date, weather, my schedule for the day and schedule for the next day (appointments and the such). I have it connected to my online calendar which I keep on my phone. I made it a habit so that when I get an appointment made for something, I immediately add it to my calendar. Having routines set up on my Alexa to turn off my lights and lock my front door before bed by just saying "Alexa, time for bed" is very helpful for the anxieties that come with my ADHD. I know not everyone can afford to switch over to smart devices overnight, but I promise you, it is worth it if you have the means to do so. There are some great KZitem channels out there to help you get started; one of my favourites being Smart Home Solver. It became a fun project and as I got more of my apartment converted to being "smart", I felt my days get more productive and my anxiety levels went down quite a lot. It isn't a perfect solution though. I still have a pencil & notepad that I keep on my office desk for writing a to-do list (clean the kitchen, brush teeth, put out the trash, etc). I add to it over the course of the week, and I just read through it a few times a day, prioritizing the things that I need to get done first; health, personal hygiene, and daily chores such as laundry, dishes & vacuuming. Once I do those priority ones, I aim to knock 1-3 other things off of the list each day. There are some days when the list will fill up faster than it goes down and there are some days I am able to clear it off completely. But hey, that's ADHD for ya.

You could put a dish drying closet above the sink, so the water drops into the sink after the dishes are washed (i think that's a common thing in finland actually...? Not sure tho)

I love your channel SO much. I am an adult with ADHD, and I greatly appreciate the visibility and tips. I don't know if you will ever see this comment, but I feel like in your videos you always seem super high functioning. Like you've magically defeated the ADHD monster with so many tips and tricks. I know it's not true and that we only see people at their best, but I would really appreciate a video about getting back on track after executive dysfunction takes over. Thank you so much!!

Omg I’m only a minute into the video and I have no idea if this is an adhd thing nor not, but when you boosted yourself up on the chair arms so you could sit cross cross on the chair I got way too excited because I felt like I was the only one that constantly sits like that in a chair 😅

I know this is unrelated to the video, but idk if i just haven't seen it... Is there a video on this channel about adhd and fatigue that isn't burnout? I feel like I'm constantly in recharge mode and i used to think it was just because I'm introverted, but now I'm thinking more and more it's adhd related and that I'm just overstimulated all the time therefore exhausted. Anytime I'm tested for thyroid problems they always come back normal and I'm just at a loss at this point. I'm only just getting into the idea of getting more serious treatment/analysis, but it's so freaking hard to get started and I'm oddly scared/nervous???

Not at the moment -- that's a bit of a tricky one to tackle as the fatigue can come from a wide range of problems. Some people with hyperactivity are tired because the constant restlessness makes it hard for them to get actual, physical rest. Others are battling their brains so much that it's draining them. While others still are tired not because of ADHD but anxiety, or depression. And then there's also physical potentials, beyond just thyroid problems, but those can *sometimes* come with more than one symptom... but not always. For example I have fatigue issues as well and mine was at least two-fold: unchecked hyperactivity & a potential iron deficiency that I'm getting lab work done for to confirm (or not). And understimulation and overstimulation can also be possibilities; so we definitely recommend talking to your care team and seeing what they can do. Just because fatigue can come from.... way too many different sources, not just ADHD... and we aren't qualified to determine that for people. 🧡 Though it does make for a good idea as a PSA that could be done via our Shorts. 👀 I'll add it to our list of potential subjects to tackle in Shorts. 😄 Cause this is exactly the thing that would be a great little short video. So thank you so much for asking!!!! And best of luck figuring out the fatigue -- it's... a process for sure.

Consistently feeling fatigued is actually what lead me to learn about ADHD. It could be related to sleep issues - here's a SciShow video on the topic: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mHuYk2SMkoBhnm0 and How to ADHD has also done a video with tips for getting sleep.

How to ADHD, can you do a video about ADHD and Maturity? It sure seems to me, me anyway, that ADHD brains might take longer than nuerotypical brains to reach real maturity. I am only speaking from personal experience.

It also seems to get worse with age. It doesn't help that the older you get, the most criticized you are for not being "normal" and for using "kid" things for any reason, so then you try to deal without that stuff and everything just falls apart. You realize more and more that you can't "adult" and can't fit in anywhere either. At least that's been my experience. I'm just a big loser who can't do anything right because I'm an adult who finds it too hard to "adult". And then my Dad's been retired for a few years now and it's really become super obvious that he's got it too and it's causing problems with his marriage even.

Hi Jessica! I've been wanting to get myself a mini fridge since you released this video, but have only now been in a position where I can! The fridge shown here seems to be largely unavailable, at least where I live, but I was wondering how you decided on the one you got in the first place? I always find it so hard to buy things like this - there's so many options and it's hard to find honest reviews 😓

Thanks for all the great content you provide. You were a big part of my journey in learning I have ADHD, and your videos really helped me implement healthier coping mechanisms, and day-to-day processes while I explored the possibility (and had the lightbulb moment of 100% clarity) of having ADHD... well, whatever suggestions I could retain 🙈 Not only that, but the content is interesting and engaging, so my wife has been there along the ride, and has been helping implement many of your suggestions. I begin medication tomorrow. P.S. Congrats on the new studio! Looking forward to what's to come!

Thank you for your incredible support! It means so much to me and the team. I’m happy our videos were helpful on your journey to diagnosis and treatment - wishing you luck with the meds! They can be a bit of a trial and error process but they can make SUCH a difference especially when you find the right one/right dose!

Hi, I just started my ADHD journey at 46, 5 days ago! I was listening to a BBC Sports Radio show and before the football (soccer) match commentary, they were discussing ADHD in Adults, during which they listed the symptoms and I scored 9/10, it was like a light bulb going on! So I have contacted my doctor who is referring me for ADHD assessment, which can take over 12 months for my first appointment, so a while for a confirmed diagnosis. Everything makes sense now, just wish I realised earlier. Your old video view rates will go up, as I've just subscribed, and probably like most on your channel, I have to watch each video a few times because I've zoned out for probably the 20th that day 😀. I never realised how many adults suffer. Thank you for educating the world 👍
