You are not alone, I've said this forever. Revelations theme is not only a bit nicer to listen to (in my opinion), but it's also used more effectively and has several different variations of it made for specific cutscenes. Meanwhile, Ezio's family is only used in AC2 in the opening, ending, and during races (for some reason). It's an awesome theme, but AC revelations' OST feels a lot more tailored for the story and mood of each individual time it's used. I also think it's more emotional. Ezio's family is about loss. But Revelation's theme is about accepting old age. Both Ezio and Altair's journeys are about learning that one man cannot live long enough to fix the world. There will always be problems. Altair dedicated his entire life to the brotherhood. His last message to Ezio was to let go. "If only I have said, that's enough. I have seen enough for one life". He compelled Ezio to realize his work has to be continued by others (Desmond) and that he should trust the next generations of Assassins and enjoy the rest of his days with the woman he loves, and eventually his daughter too. Revelation's theme is about an arc. The arc of two man's lifetimes. It's more powerful and unique than the loss and revenge tropes used in AC2.

Unity was the beginning of the end for Assassin’s Creed. No matter the good qualities of the new or the bad qualities of the old, the older games had heart. A distinct identity of their own with characters going on their own distinct journeys. They always started arrogant and naïve then growing through their battle scars to realize something profound about the journey and battlefield that is life. Maybe it’s nostalgia glasses but it makes me sad I haven’t been truly invested in an Assassin’s Creed game since Black Flag

This is what happens when a series goes on too long. They become soulless cash cows. This is true for all forms of media. Look at the MCU. Started great. They didn’t just feel like superhero movies in the beginning. They had substance. The longer it went on, the worse it got. That’s the same with Assassins Creed. Though gameplay got better (objectively), the substance of the stories faded away.

Syndicate still had all that. It was what Unity was supposed to be. Unfortunately, Unity has damaged the public's trust in AC and so Syndicate was scrutinised far more than it should've been. Origins was definitely a great revamp of the series with the new traversal and combat systems, same way AC3 was all those years ago. The story was definitely interesting too. But then they just took all the wrong notes and didn't make Origins a one-off kind of game, story wise, and that's where they lost me completely.

I will defend the newer game AC Valhalla a bit. The game dragged on, sure, but the ending wasn't bad and quite emotional with good lines: Eivor coming to gripes with his father, him leaving his axe, him saying "everything else," and such. Also, the scene of the "true" birth of the Templars is also emotional with the music and so on. AC Valhalla had the same writer as AC IV: Black Flag (Darby McDevitt), that's why it's better at hitting the emotional moments

This is all about writing. The the lack there of nowadays. It seems nobody writing modern Assassin's Creed even gets it. They probably don't even know that the whole Templar conspiracy isn't just some wacky lore, but actually real life esoterism. The writing is what has ruined Assassin's Creed. That there has to be such intense quantity of it, it's impossible to make it good other than by accident. The RPG scope is what killed the writing. But even then... Mirage had potential, yet they scuandered that one too. The scope was smaller yet... Yeah.

Its just sad how the devs arent getting free hand anymore, but AC red is with the people from Black Flag AND Odyssey working on it... Very promising, as is Hexe, Mirage was a filler as all educated AC enjoyers know and Valhalla is a great game in some details, just not the combat and the story was written very hastly sadly...
