When water is standing in your pond. You would have to shake the clay inside after one week in order to that the pond is tight. On the side the damm needs to be equal to 1 to 2, which means if it 1 meter high you need to have 2 meters wide. Otherwise you run the risk that the dam is going to break. Furthermore you need an overflow on the side. I learnt this from Sepp Holzer directly who is doing permaculture. How to build ponds is not mentioned in his books though.

Your rainbow is lovely after the rain. If you like curry and onions, I cook 1 teaspoon full of curry powder once the onions are almost cooked clear, add a little butter then some scrambled eggs (6 eggs plus 5 dessertspoons milk. In China there would always be drainage channels at the high side of the road. Probably not the first thing you want to work on, but some areas of the road might be really useful to protect from washing away. Oh wow, that'll be a challenge for the next few years to make your new road play well with the hydrology. I'm sure you'll figure it out as you find out things like this. Its route may not have any alternatives and it obviously can't be placed to follow terrain contour lines to avoid water running down its surface but perhaps there are other solutions to slowing down and dispersing the flow, or laying down a gutter or something when that's not possible Loving the "cat plant", a familiar species in various other climates too!

My garden almost died because our well and nearby creek went dry. We got water from our neighbor or we would have had to move away for 3 months. I started mulching with straw, and that helped. Five years in a row with almost no rain made it very difficult for us here in the south. I grew up with wood stoves, so did my sibling, and all my cousins. Not one of us were ever burned, not once. No one warned us, watched us, we just didn't play, run, touch, the stove when a fire was burning, from the time we could crawl. We spent most of our waking hours playing in the forest, the creeks, the rock cliffs, the lake, only one injury among us, my brother fell and broke his arm, we were little, I instinctively splint it and stabilized it while we walked the long distance home to my Mom. That was it, and we took care of it. We were lucky to experience caution, not fear.

Here in central Spain we´re swimming around like you are! 😆Hasn´t rained so much in the 5 years we´ve owned the land. How are you doing for power? This is the first time I´ve had to use the generator since we installed the wind turbine, as we just have a blanket of rainy clouds sitting over our heads all day with practically no wind and our panels are obviously no use (I call it "bloody Englsh weather"). About the stove, I spend most of my early childhood playing in front of an open fire with no problems. My parents eventually put a wire mesh fire guard in front but only because I started to get interested in what happened when I threw stuff in. 🤣
@FarmsVilla

We went off grid here in southern Italy at the start of October. 😳 November was not kind to us solar wise and the generator was also used extensively. I need to install our wind turbine again after the wind took it down along with part of the wall it was mounted to. Not keen on running the generator so often though. Further improvement to my system is required if I want to be off grid successfully during winter. Our vegetable garden and hoop house was under 3 feet of water this week. Got about 20 inches in 12 hours last Saturday night.☹️ it has only just drained and more rain is coming. The joys of off grid life. 🤣🤣

During the Easter season, I would save the large size of the shell. Then I would place them in dye. After they are dry, I'd place a wick inside, pouring in the wax. They make lovely gifts, and were very welcomed by my family and friends. Placing the egg tree with the egg candles in the center of the table, made a beautiful a centerpiece. My friend was preparing for a wedding and she asked me to make some for their tables and gifts for anyone that wanted to take them home. Her husband made egg trees to display them. She told me that most of egg candles were gone including the trees. Thinking I'll start saving the shells for the Easter season. It's been many years since I have made these candles, so new eyes 👀 will see them and appreciated them once again. Have to keep an eye 👁 opened for the egg trees. Or maybe I can start making some wire stands for displaying. It is January 1st of the New Year. Happy New Year to everyone. Hopefully the New Year will be filled with blessings for!

One of my favorite things in our yard was my old 'cold compost pile' [Really the place I dumped all the weeds and grass, and tree trimmings, and dead plants, and brush, because I had to put them somewhere....] BIG LONG pile! 6 or 7 years later, it was soil enough, and slumped enough, that it made a gorgeous rock garden :)

Just looking at all the trimming and digging done over the years amazes me, especially knowing all the work/time raising and feeding the family requires. You guys will look back with pride after your goals are complete.
