A good example for this happened during 1947, after the Glazier-Higgin-Woodward Tornado, three girls, around the ages of 12 years, 3-4 years, and 8 months respectively. Another thing about this, is a girl named Joan Gay Croft, who was abducted, and presumably killed after the tornado. The unidentified 3-4 year old was brought to Joan's mother to see if it was Joan. It was not. Many people had viewed, stating they had no idea who they were. each one has since been buried titled 'Unidentified girl, victim of April 9, 1947 tornado.'

We got plenty of monuments dedicated to the "unknown soldier" here in Italy, the most famous is the Altare Della Patria. Referring mostly to WW1 soldiers, but also WW2. Near where I live there's a massive ossuary that contains the remains of thousands of soldiers, belonging to both the Italian and Austro-hungarian army. All the ones that were known or later identified have their own little spot and headstone with their name and information, but there's also a place dedicated to the milite ignoto, the unknown soldier, that contains all the remains that were never claimed, that were too badly injured to be recognizable and also all the mismatched limbs and "pieces" of soldiers that were recovered but never put back together. That headstone is often ignored, people prefer to go looking for names (especially one name among many which is a Hungarian soldier named Peter Pan, kids love to celebrate him by leaving flowers and trinkets on his grave), but it's truly the saddest one, and the one that deserves the most respect. Those men in there lost everything in that senseless war, their country, their family, their life, even their name. That headstone is a reminder of what war actually is. Some people think of war as something glorious, of soldiers as heroes, volunteering to go defeat the enemy and coming home to their family victorious or dying for their country and being celebrated and remembered forever, receiving the highest honors at their funeral. But way too often a soldier was just someone who didn't want to be a soldier but one day received a letter and now rests forever forgotten, his body scattered around in a mass grave with hundreds of nameless others, some pieces of it maybe still lost in the woods where he blew up. War is horrifying

This is very generous for an unknown grave - a lot of the graves on my family's land are unmarked. Im not exactly sure why. I find something on the "i was somebody" When the cemetery sexton sold Glenna her stone, her request for the inscription on it to be "I Was. . . SOMEBODY." The reason this was done was because he said that many years after she had died, she felt like no one probably would remember her anyway. But by having the inscription she selected on her stone, people would see it and remember it. Glenna June Anderson, 81, passed away Thursday June 19, 2008, at 5:28 p.m. at the Mercy Medical Center, Rogers, Ark. I googled it

My reservation has a cross, to represent rhe 3,000 tribal members we lost to diseases from the late 1870's. Two thirds of the bands that used to exist within out nation (30 bands of approximately 3 - 5 thousand each band) died to the smallpox, whooping Cough and other diseases used to plague our people. The Canadian fur Traders would intentionally sell/trade diseased blankets to native tribes to thin out their populations. The cross in out reservation represents the mass grave made for all the people who passed on from diseases/sickness. It's estimated we lost 3,000 people in total, before contact was ever made with settlers looking to take our land from all those whom had passed.

The last one is from Gettysburg National Cemetery; the remains there are 411 Unknown Union dead buried in a burial trench. This isn’t the only one of its type either in the United States nor is it the largest. Cold Harbor National Cemetery has two burial trenches with a combined total of 889 unknown Union dead; the largest having 568 unknown Union dead buried within it. The reason I make the distinction of _Union dead_ is because - after the war - it was only Union remains that would be exhumed and brought to national cemeteries. Most Confederate dead you might find in a National Cemetery were buried there either during the war or by accident; the largest concentration of such an example being in City Point National Cemetery with at least one thousand Confederate dead buried there. Confederate Dead were still exhumed, but were brought to various cemeteries in Virginia and elsewhere; the most notable example being Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
