Steve Ellman and his Glendale vanity project with Wayne Gretzky joining the ride. That's what destroyed the Coyotes. Arizona deserved better.

just when the coyotes look like the west's team of the future, they leave. its very weird. utah is a great place for pro hockey, but once again quebec city is overlooked. houston and hartford need teams also.

Bad ownership always hampered the team. This was a good overview of a situation that ultimately cost Arizona its first born trained and drafted player Josh Doan. Between that and them disrespecting Shane by leaving his banner screw the owners.

Hearing about how toxic the owner was, and how crappy it was playing in the tiny arena, I wonder how many players had them on their no trade list. Which led to me wondering, what NHL team is on more players' no trade list than any other?

probably Buffalo, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa, Calgary, Pittsburgh Also, Buffalo, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Ottawa, Calgary and Pittsburgh MAKE MORE MONEY FOR THE NHL THAN: - Tampa, Miami, Phoenix, Atlanta, Raleigh, Columbus, Anaheim... So, you can successful NHL franchises in hockey markets, or you can teams in Miami, Atlanta and Phoenix that CANNOT generate profit. Take a choice, I'd rather generate $5 million dollars in Quebec City instead of lose $100 million in Florida....at least Quebec City actually has hockey fans

21 minutes being a "bit of a drive" and too far to go see your NHL team play is a super sorry excuse. Unless half the fans literally WALKED to the Phoenix rink the real reason it didn't work is because hockey in ARIZONA didn't work. I drive 20 minutes to WORK everyday. Hell... I have no hockey in my area so I have to drive an hour and 20 mins to go play. Thank god I only go once a week, but still.

We all know he will not get a new arena in 5 years & Betman knows he will not do it. So,why the NHL let him keep the name? The owner knew he was in trouble & did not even ask to leauge for help. Shows how badly he was in trouble. Cheap hotel rooms even worst making false clams on official documents. He should not be a owner on any sports league if does that.

Alex Meruelo was supposed to buy the Atlanta Hawks not long after their then-owners Atlanta Spirit shipped the Thrashers off to Winnipeg, but the deal ultimately fell through. Atlanta Spirit was a s**t-show itself, and the Hawks under Meruelo would've been no better.

An organization rots from the head. The team never was well run by true professionals. You know a team is badly run when the game's best player ever cannot even help out and grow the fan base. I do not understand why the fans could not drive an hour to support their team? I mean, most NHL fans must travel an hour for each game. I just hope the new name for the team in Utah will be a good one. Salt Lake City Pit Vipers sounds great to me.
