I personally can see the appeal of it in certain very specific shots. But it is extremely easy to be overdone, and if your portfolio is full of this dramatic look, it is a big no-go. It is a niche thing like the use of (circular) fisheye. But combined with a sweet spot effect it is just so much worse, since that forces you to put the subject in the center, making every shot even more similar to one another. This is just not for me. But if people pay 3000 USD (WTF!!!!) for and old lens to get this, I guess some absolutely adore it.

The swirl is great but I find it lacking in 3D pop. I have had mine for a couple of days now. Nothing like you can get from most of the Voigtlanders at close to this price. I find the "swirly bokeh" especially for portaits enervating drawing the attention badly away from the subject. The sweet spot 3-D effect seems to be very interesting. My very old Canon FD 50 mm 1.4 produces very sweet images on my Olympus EM1 (but "normal" ones on my FF Nikon Z5).

I love the biotar rendering when used correctly. It would be interesting to see the bokeh of this ttartisans side by side with the biotar. I use a meostigmat 70 1.4 projection lens which has a similar optical formula and rendering to the biotar, but it's a bit sharper through the mid-frame. I may buy the m-mount version of the ttartisans when it's available as the projection lens has no aperture and needs a bulky helicoid.

caveat - king of bokeh FOR FULL FRAME, there are more bokehlicious lenses for medium/large format. I've ordered a copy on the day of the release, it's still in China, can't wait. Always wanted an og Biotar but couldn't justify the price... the best thing about these lenses is the image circle being around 60mm, so you can either use a tilt/swing/shift adapter on FF, or use it on GFX and get a 58mm equivalent angle of view and f/1.25 equivalent depth of field for even more bokehliciousness
should be quite easy to remove the mount and adapt it to PL
