As a biologist, I think I can answer the question as to why you don’t catch lobsters shortly after they molt. They are not capable of catching and eating until their new shell hardens. They have no reason to hunt for food.
@RigidOven1970
2 ай бұрын
Also, I have read and studied it is quite a painful process to molt their shells, and therefore, they do not require caloric intake. I also read they eat part of their own shell afterward for some sort of nutrients.

Jacob, I remember 30 years ago when all 6 of my sons were 12 and under. A buddy of mine had a lobster boat outa Cape Cod. We traded. As a carpenter, Id fix his house and he would take me and my boys out on his boat lobster fishing. My sons had such a great time. Learning how to bait and haul the traps. We did this for years. Watching your videos brings back all the great memories of when my boys were young. Most of all, your videos give my old brain a break from all the other nonsense going on in the world these day. Then he took off & gave us a show for 1/2 hour. He actually stood on his nose (just above the water) & furled & unfurled his back fin. MAJESTIC! I raise tarantulas and they go through the same process as crab and lobster. They completely pull themselves out of their old skin and are completely soft and vulnerable until their fangs harden enough to eat. Tarantulas hide while molting because they are actually soft enough that a cricket you feed them can potentially kill a tarantula while it’s hardening its exoskeleton. Don’t know about crabs and lobster but tarantulas molt their esophagus down to their stomach, and if that part of the molt fails, it can starve waiting on the next molt to Correct the problem. Sorry for the long winded response to yes I think they hide while soft.

Interesting that the tag doesn’t have contact info. For all banded birds, the band includes a 1-800 number so that if a member of the public finds a banded bird (usually things like cats kills and window strikes) they can call and report it. Of course, all bands are issued by USGS, so it’s all under the auspices of a single organization, with individual banders running their own projects.
