Local garden centers and hardware stores? I'll go in and ask for specifics like bird seed without shinny glyphosate sprayed on the bird seed. @@jessrob0205 I am in Zone 8a (Atlanta GA Metro) as well. The kaolin clay works quite well! I did two treatments spaced two weeks apart on all my squash, eggplant, and watermelon. No squash bugs--I did find one squash beetle on one plant (which I of course killed by hand) and a very slight amount of damage, but after treating with the clay there was not a recurrence. Nice to not see ANY eggs or larvae on the underside of my squash leaves--very different from last year. The eggplant leaves look better than ever. I've already harvested one ichiban eggplant, and the black beauty eggplant has a ton of flowers. As others have commented, the 25 lb bag of kaolin clay isn't cheap ($50 plus just over $40 to ship from the West Coast), but IMHO is worth every penny for its effectiveness and the fact I'll be able to use it for many years going forward.

Diatomaceous Earth kills everything. Sucks the moisture right out of worms and can kill pollinators too. It doesn't discriminate. And things like Neem oil are also dangerous for pollinators and other creatures. It damages the endocrine systems of bees and butterflies. This product in a slurry, would be as good as the ancestor's use of latex paint in white washing fruit and nut orchard trunks and branches. With the latex's ugly taste, it also provides white shading of dark barked trees (sunburned plums, cherries, ...). Insects crawling up the trees are noticed by the birds and eaten. White washing the bark and infilling spots, cracks, and pores stops insect burrowing and destroying one's trees. Kaolin white washing also stops and slows down mold, mildew, fungus, and moss infections being imported from insects and tweeties feet onto the branches. White washing the trees with kaolin clay makes for intelligent operations, and is easier to apply than latex paint sprayed on, and splashing all over the ground (not good).
@johnlord8337
2 ай бұрын
One ~could~ also provide a ground white washing skirting around one's trees, out to the furtherest branches and twigs as the "drip line." The white ground would stop greater sunburn and overheating of the ground, heat strees of the tree's roots and rootlets, stopping crawling insects getting to trees, and stopping various molds etc from growing around the tree.

I watched the white powder in your videos but don’t remember that you explained what it was before. Thank you for sharing this.

The major problem with this stuff is it is NOT small grower / patio grower friendly. Can't buy a 25# bag for BIG BUCKS that has to be stored for ages because I have a small space to grow. Would be helpful if you can give us alternatives.

I agree! I have been reaching to to the company to see if I could purchase it in bulk and repackage it, hopefully they will allow me to.

@@jamesprigioni I am desperate for something that can address SVB better; they are not seasonal in central TX. I wonder if you can mix smaller amounts in a large spray bottle?

I wonder if you buy the kaolin clay for face mask in small pkg if it would work, a cucumber would have to be the testing specimen.
@Momma_Tomma

@Willow53663 he addressed why that won't work in the beginning of the video. #1 particle size, #2 impurities in that type of kaolin clay that can hurt your plants.

I agree, the one downside is how much you have to buy. I am trying to reach out to them and buy it in bulk to repackage and sell in smaller quantities.

Love You & Tuck very much. I planted my strawberry plants I had in pots on the deck railings last fall in the 8 by 10 ft garden I have. Boy was that so hard on me to plant 3 of them in the garden, one each day I think cuz I am disabled. Well, the snugs and ants and other slimy bugs had taken bites out of almost every strawberry. The plants are big and were loaded with strawberries of nice size. We've had lots of rain so far this spring and when I go outside with a flashlight at night these big ugly snail looking things are everywhere in the grass also w/nightcrawlers. I'm wondering if I could dig up the strawberry plants next spring (God willing) and put them back in the large pots if they'll still flower and produce strawberries next spring? Because I hear it's pretty hard to keep bug & slugs off the strawberry plants in the ground. I was so looking forward to having wonderful organic strawberries this spring but was a no go.😐

Yes you can move them. They say they only last 3years but I’ve had some well beyond that. The year they are moved though they may not produce well. Sprinkle. Some slug bait around the ground of the plants. That may help.

Loads of LOVE for James & TUCK! I used to see the fruit trees and other things sprayed like this in Michigan & Wisconsin when I lived there & never really knew what it was. I'm in far south Australia now and my fruit trees get blighted with leaf borers, stink bugs and even coddling moth - not to mention possums & parrots - not sure the Kaolin would stop those large varmints, but they would certainly help those other little beasts. Now, to see if I can find such a thing in my garden stores in Tasmania. Thanks for sharing - another gem in your gardening crown!

I grew some cucumbers in single stem in harsh subtropical Australian summer and didn't need to protect it from the sun. Didn't need any shadecloth, clay or whatever. Will try again this year to see if growing it in single stem was the key.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this video! I was inspired by you to buy the Surround clay this year to try in our garden, since we have fruit trees too and have some troublesome pests like vine borers and Japanese beetles. It's so helpful to see how you use the spray in your garden!

My thoughts also but maybe you don't apply it until after the flowers are gone 🤔

Correct. You only use it on all parts of the plant/tree OTHER THAN the flower. So, put it on BEFORE flowers open, and don't put it on again until after all the flowers are done.

It's hard to find as a normal gardener here in Belgium. Even if I were to import it from the US, which a lot of american webshops won't allow (either they didn't think of it or it's too costly to ship or some export law thing?) 😕

On your sprayer tanks at the gal marks draw with a magic marker line around the whole tank so you don't have to twist and try see the mark just fill the tank with water till you hit the mark anywhere.
