My best board ever was the Hstreet Tony mag, kid holding the cross, vert version. Only recently I learned that board had an special concave and...... a 16 wheelbase!. 9.75 and it felt skinny after the boards I used to ride back in the 80s, and had a nose! I will definitively drill a 16 wheelbase on some 33 long board. T Mag swears that's the best for stable riding on vert/bowls.

yes i sanded the graphic on my flight deck (Andy egg 🥚) and stained and spray painted on it with some stencils, then clear coated over and I'm so in love with my board. but sometimes it's nice to just put a board together without too much fuss. ever put lots of time into a grip job only to break the deck prematurely? the worst!!

8.62 with 159 Indy’s custom grip being a placebo is a interesting concept. I felt like my dragons slowed down a bunch too, maybe it was the bearings. I’ll have to try em with new bearings before I toss em. 97 spitfire Jeff Carlyle work a treat

I bought new bearings with the dragons. They were faster than my formula4 101 or 99 BUT I skate gritty street, some places were unskateble with F4. I also dig the 159 on a 8.6 board, my madness thinks the board should be leveled with the wheels, a bit of axle or nuts should be showing but they never do. I have an 8 with ace classics 8.375, perfect match X)

Great point about the customed grip tape art/collage effect. For me, putting a little thought and effort into distinguishing what's my nose and whats my tail(on popsicles) makes a huge difference when ridin..

I'm curious about this too. I set up a 70s style board with OJ Super Juice wheels. They're 78a but still incredibly fast. That really surprised me. Now I'm curious what OJs can do at higher durameters.

I have been skating that exact same deck since June of 2022. I love the wheel wells bc I ride loose trucks. My next board definitely needs wheel wells. I ride polar grip tape with the naked lady on it. Polar uses jessup for all their grip which I like bc it is softer than mob

Totally agree, as long skateboarding as an art and expression of oneself, the board should have a personality of its own, just as the owner. Even if it won't last that long.

I just got an uncut deck from a local deck maker specifically because it's so hard to find short wheelbase with more width. I also like more mellow kicks. I cut my own out similar to that shovel style you had. I also put wheel wells in.

I’m confused by this statement. Everyone makes wide boards with short wheelbases now. Girl, Chocolate, Anti Hero, Creature, Santa Cruz. I have a hard time finding longer wheelbases that aren’t +33” long or shaped.

Mostly depends on people's shoe-size obviously.. but I'm also a huge fan of shaped boards. Though I am giving this wide (8.8) SC pseudo Hand everslick board.. and it's super fun on transition! Makes it feel like a meallow/streamer kinda ride.. (and yes, I actually will be putting my kids' original art on the top, w/clear grip) to distinguish what's my nose/tail.

I’m 31 now, I have a 3 year old son. So about two years ago I bought a complete off someone who had like generic everything except the deck is a zero I believe. But back when I was 15-16 I always skated FLIP 7.5s, and I decided to get my old trucks, wheels and bearings out to put on this board. Problem is the deck is like an 8-8.25 so when I put all my old stuff on the board just sucked, always going to the left. I re learned how to kickflip, do no comply 180s, typical stuff. But man in my younger years there wasn’t very many flip tricks I couldn’t do. I skated mostly flat ground, I had a square rail, a round kink rail, and my dad and I built an 8ft long ledge just made of wood and square metal coping. And I had a pretty long drive way freshly paved perfect for power slides so a lot of my bs flips were catch and power slide. But now I’m still only like 5’8 135 pounds. But it seems so hard to find any 7.5s or even 7.63 decks let alone FLIP decks. I was always a flip trick skater, but obviously back then, in much better shape. But my son loves watching me skate and I definitely need a better set up. Those deck rails you put on were never even around when I skated! But once it gets warmer out I may just have to get me a smaller deck that I’m more familiar with because back 15 years ago street skating with an 8 sized deck was almost unheard of. Now I go back to like skatewarehouse.com and everything is 8 and bigger. I think there was one flip board that was a 7.5. Back when flip had those holographic graphics I had a Geoff rowley one, (my favorite skater at the time” and a sick holographic Mark Appleyard one. I wish my mom didn’t get rid of all my retired decks or even broken ones. But I was never a transition skater. I skated pyramids and mini ramps but no grabs or big airs.
