THERE ARE TWO OTHER THINGS IT COULD BE: Your Transmission control module could be going bad. Sometimes this is separate from the Transmission itself and can be replaced without replacing the entire transmission. ALSO. It could just be a grounding issue. Check to make sure that the ground connector from your battery to your chassis is secure. If there is a lose ground connection usually the Transmission is the first thing to show symptoms (in my experience)

I find the feeling of a transmission going out where it slows down really hard and the vehicle dives forward is sometimes a misfiring cylinder. I had that problem in an F-150 I had and thought the automatic transmission was going out, nope just the garbage Triton engine misfiring and no shop wanted to touch the spark plugs. I replaced that with a 2001 Tacoma with a manual and I thought the transmission needed to some TLC or was just that tough because I would let off the gas in any gear and the vehicle would slow down suddenly and dive one day. It ended up throwing a code that sent me on a hunt for vacuum leaks which I fixed, then replaced the PCV valve in the end. Runs like new.

@nthgth

@@AmarisLWit's just that for an automatic transmission, the computer has a good amount of say over how "hard" it shifts. With nothing wrong or malfunctioning, the computer "tune" can call for harder shifts if the owner prefers it (usually also a _faster_ shift so it could actually be beneficial). This video (and those Camaros you mention) is about when it is NOT in the tune, i.e. when the computer is "trying" to shift smoothly as normal but it isn't because of some malfunction.

I had a 2010 Taurus SHO and it was doing the thing where it felt like I was rear ended when coming to a stop. The guy who sold me the car changed the fluid with Valvoline Maxlife multi-vehicle ATF. I changed all the fluid out with Motorcraft Mercon LV fluid, and it never did it again. Maxlife is great for older cars, but a lot of modern transmissions are super picky with what fluid you put in them.

i bought a 2003 kia sedona, goes great, the previous owner took good care of it, and who ever did the previous tranny fluid put too many, i pumped it all out from the top with a otc manual fluid pump and put it to level, it works great. it was still cherry red and not brownish.

I've never seen a manual transmission go "bad" unless absolute terrible abuse. The clutch might slip or the synchros wear out but those are replaceable parts.

Haha my wife bought a 2019 charger RT, the bmw transmission, without letting me test drive it first. It has those hard downshifts. Otherwise it works beautifully. Could this be a software issue, anybody know?

My Tacoma allows revs to go high and slowly shifts up from low on the takeoff. That helps keep my tires from lighting up from a reasonable launch, unless you push it and then all hell breaks loose including the tires.

I was having issues like this on an 02 Lancer. Thought it was old/bad fluid so I drained it. It was supposed to have something like 1.25L. When I drained it, 7 liters came out. Rode like a dream after that.

Hi Scotty what does it mean when i slow down to first gear for maybe a second i get a little power pushing through even though clutch is fully depressed. Honda cl9 04 .. appreciate your help. I read in the car records that the clutch release fork was 'stretched'.. could that be where its coming from?

Could be a vacuum leak so I would start there , replace lines looks for bad or cracked hoses, if not I’d check out the IAC (idle air control valve) and EGR valve , these cause lots of power and idling issues

The rough downshift can be a result of being in the failsafe mode from the TCM which commands maximum hydraulic pressure. I know, I have a Pontiac Solstice I bought for $1K because the shop told the previous owner it needed a new tranny.. not true!!

on the 2011-2017 Cruze this can be caused by a boost/turbo leak due a missing PCV valve. Specially the rough idling.
