I admire how you don’t cut corners when you do these projects. It takes a lot of willpower to dig in as deeply as you do rather than go for the simple solution.

Thanks, if I cut corners I just lie awake thinking about it. The rear fender Bondo still bothers me a little...

Well done. You are doing a good job and learning a lot, it will be worth the effort.

Future reference- cover up the windows inside when using a cut off wheel in a car. Kevin trashed several windows in the Escort from throwing sparks when he cut out/replaced the tops of the strut towers years ago.

I made the mistake of grinding on my project car ( '66 Mustang) when my wifes Lincoln was not covered. Ouch. Ruined her driver's door window.

Clark's is the best supplier of parts for the 'Vairs. I have seen other products from others and none of them are worth the effort or cost. Clark's is the premium! The early models are overbuilt but I would not have it any other way. That old '61 4 dr I used to have was a beauty for the underside and I kept it that way while I had it.

Two suggestions. A chisel on an air hammer works really well for peeling back the spot welds. A copper spoon behind the pin hole is good for patching with the mig especially when you have access to the back side..

An air hammer would be a good purchase in the future. Maybe I'll run across one at an estate sale someday. I do have a flattened price of copper pipe. Could probably use some shaping, because it didn't help an awful lot.

@@SealedBeamRallyTeam Yep. A week or two ago I spent the better part of a weekend removing the floor pan from a Super Beetle. Tried spot weld bits, hammer and chisel, etc. Finally settled on drilling the top off the weld and then just wedging it out of the way with the chisel. Then I got home and watched a video of someone do it with an air hammer and I was like I had one but didn't think to use it. Working on cars is like learning a ton of different things after you have struggled through how to do them the first time and then hoping you remember enough in time the next time if there is one so that you don't repeat the same things. I have a 62 Monza Convertible that has no floor pan that is probably my next project. Keep up the good work.

@@helfrie Yeah, I work at a repair shop now and am amazed by the things you can do with an air chisel or air hammer! But all my money goes into the cars and rallying, so hard to justify many brand new tools.

Why not just use sheet metal for the floors rather than what you did? I've never done this kind of work before but might have to on my 87 Subaru XT.

The indents give it strength, so I'd probably have to bump to to a lot thicker metal to match it. XT's are cool. My cousins used to have a couple. I haven't seen one in many years!

@@SealedBeamRallyTeam I was thinking that was the case but wanted to make sure. I'm pretty excited to get my XT out to some local shows in Fargo here.
