Great tips! Massaging the feet with a lacrosse ball and the calves with a foam roller can help if you suffer from plantar Fasciitis. I have to do that to skate any real distance.

Took me a few pairs of skates to find my ideal fitting skate. It can be costly since just trying them at the store doesn't really determine whether they're going to cause pain during actual skating sessions. From experience wider feet FR and RB cruisers. Narrower feet PS Next and RB Twister. Liners play a role on the fit of the skate as well. Sorry for hogging up your comment section. I am not a know-it-all just an everyday consumer.

It's been roughly 20 years since the last time I went skating. Your videos have helped an insane amount with my confidence. This is the 3rd day since I bought my skates and just got done with a 3 hour sesh. I'm currently standing in my bathtub in ice water as I write this comment... 😂 I just want to add that the first 2 days, I was pretty discouraged because of how painful it was to just have the skates on but now I can feel it getting easier and easier each time I put them on. Great vids! 👍

Good to know the 10 mile rule of thumb. Have to do short sessions while breaking in and it seems like it's taking forever but i know im nowhere near 10 miles yet.

If it hurts a lot really fast, you may have plantar fasciitis. That's harder to fix and requires a custom insole which would have to fit into your skates comfortably.

Got two relevant questions: 1. What’s a good sock thickness to wear while skating? And does that have any affect on how tight you can get your skates on? 2. What are some good ankle-strengthening exercises to build strength in the ankles?
@roxxanne.adventures

Hi, the thickness of the socks should be relevant to the size of your inline blades, in my opinion. I have one pair of older blades, where i need to use thicker socks, so that my feet dont wiggle. Then i have a new pair of Powerslide Blades, which is smaller size, so i only need thin socks. After winter when i dont skate for few months, i just start skating for shorter period of time, everyday, and thats how the ankles gets strong. But you can find a lot of ankles exercises here on YT....I would suggest eating a lot of meat, and real bone broth that has all the good cartigale disolved, which gives your ligaments the colagen they need, and other things, to keep you strong and injury free. How long have you been skating?

@@roxxanne.adventuresTo answer your question in the last sentence, I’ve been inline skating for 29 years. I first tried it at my local roller rink during one of the numerous parties that my old elementary school held there. After 5th grade, I used inline skating as a supplemental exercise for running track, which I did in middle school, high school and college, along with cross country, which I ran in high school and college. It was a great way to train without beating my knees to a pulp. After developing knee problems that gradually got worse despite wearing knee braces while running, I reluctantly retired from running and inline skating has been my main method of intense outdoor exercise ever since. Initially, the knee problem was caused by the kneecap in my right knee sliding out of the grooves in the femur. A brace initially fixed the problem, but it came back like a bad rash that won’t leave you alone. Then it affected my left knee, and the problem turned out to be much more serious. An MRI revealed that the source of the problem this time around was a misaligned femur…in BOTH legs. The only fix for this was an operation that involved shattering the femur, realigning the fragments and then resetting the entire bone. The doctor said that while it’s hellishly expensive, it’s also incredibly effective, as it’s used primarily by elite-level athletes…which I’m not. Long story short, I didn’t get the operation. Nine years ago, I made the jump to big-wheel skates and my endurance improved dramatically. Nowadays, I can handle endurance workouts lasting upwards of 3 hours, sometimes more than 4. But I save those for later in the season.

If Decathlon had decent skates, I wouldn't have settled for PS Next 100's. For casual Skating the most expensive K2 skates Decathlon has might be SOMEWHAT fine, other than that they suck. Don't buy cheap skates

I think wearing recovery sandals right after skating helps. I normally don’t wear sneakers after I skated as I want as much air as possible to cool down my feet. For inline skating, you have soft boots as an option and I find these very comfortable.

I have impalas. How do you feel about those? I get pains on my arch on the outside of the foot. No idea why. The liner fits with a bit of room but with the shell, it fits snug. But after skating for a bit it makes my arch hurt. I think I can go for a bit over an hour before that pain rolls in.

How do I know if I have bad skates. I’m getting back into roller blading after years lol but I need help! Well I just bought them so that could be it. I’m just noticing that finding the center or balance inside the skate it’s difficult so, I’m not sure. With the roller blades I do have, it’s harder to turn I’m not sure if it’s me or the skates.

I've had bauer quad roller skates for about a year now, every time I skate my ankles get really red and rip the skin, I've tried wearing 2 socks and still hurts, I bought a ankle protector and still hurts, I'm size 7 shoe size, got size 7 skates and they fit snug around ankles with 2 pair of socks and have room around toes, but size 6 is tighter around ankles so still snug but my toes get squashed what should I do, my ankles are painful after a skate session, they stay painful for about 2 weeks

I’m torn between roller skates and rollerblades. I eventually want both. I mostly just wana go zoom zoom lol. Obviously rollerblades are generally faster, but can you get some decent speed on roller skates as well? I don’t want to just feel like I’m crawling (although, that’s exactly what I’ll be doing while learning)

Tried on a pair of Airwalks frm target an my ankles were DYING. if i did get them i would have bought very fluffy socks. I eneded up getin a rollerblade brand. It was a pretty penny for my budget but you can look fr used as well. You have to think the money is an investment in your body not just the skate. Bad skates can cause all the problems she said and more.

It’s hard finding a good skate shop there’s an inline shop at my local mall but the workers won’t acknowledge me and in their small quad section they have toy skates with plastic trucks so I really don’t trust their advice bc I feel if you’d sell toy quads what does that say about the quality of your inlines? On the opposite end of the spectrum my local quad shop refuses to sell impala or other lower quality skates and they also say hi the second I walk in the store instead of treating me like a poser/outsider
