For separating the studs from the drywall, all I can think of using the oscillating cutter to cut the nails/screws as you go. I imagine there'd be a little bit of wall repair on the bedroom side when the nail head vibrates, but that's all my simple mind can come up with.

If you dropped in a pound of dry ice, and close the upper hole, then an hour later you could reach in and extract the remains. CO2 would displace the oxygen in the confined space. Dry ice sublimates to over 500 times it's volume so the dry ice would fill the bottom of the wall cavity.

I recommend cutting out the 2x4’s where they’re rotted and moldy and sistering A new 2 x 4 from the top to the bottom and then inserting a new piece of wood that you cut out fit place of the pieces you cut out! You can slide a puny knife in between the OSB and the plywood and when you find a nail stick your oscillating saw in there and cut it off.

@alantorrance6153
3 жыл бұрын
I am not in the trade,but am a very capable handyman. I have an idea about that corner post - it is central to that repair task (not intending to make a pun), but doing that successfully is key to the overall repair. It is basically 3 or 4 different stud length bits of timber secured together. That is part of the answer. First of all, all the rot infected timber must be removed, and any adjoining timber treated with a rot killer, and allowed to dry. Each bit of replacement timber put in will need to be a different length, so that when nailed together, there will be ample overlap distance available for strength and rigidity by virtue of cross nailing. One section -- probably the one right in the corner at the back - will need to go the shortest distance up the wall, with longer pieces in front (two open sides of the corner). Very likely, it may be best to cut pieces and test fit them, then gang nail them together NOT in situ, then when nailed together to form one solid item, put the now solid piece into the corner and gang nail to the stud pieces still in place. Perhaps a good quality wood glue on all joins, especially the end cuts? Sounds an interesting task.

Easy way to get rid of mice and/or rats ... bait a few traps with peanut butter smeared onto them and leave over night. Why not use poison? Poison works but you can't control where the critter dies; if in an inaccessible area, well a decomposing mouse/rat doesn't smell like lavender.

A family I worked for moved into a home backed on protected land. It had mice. We worked to get rid of them. One day I opened a kitchen drawer and there was a mouse. She was upset that slammed the drawer instead of catching the mouse. A natural startle response. A scream, a slam are mild responses. Not my first mouse experience. And probably not my last.

Thx for commenting... The homeowner called a rodent specialist and he found several entry points all of which we sealed up. I think the rat in the video came out of the sewer pipe that was left open. Haven't caught, heard, or seen any mice/rats in 10 days. I think we got 'em. I told Jordan we should video what we did around the property to seal up the house.
