“A car that runs on water” - you started with a blunt lie. Hydrogen is no water and it is hard and expensive to produce it in volumes…

Unfortunately, hydrogen will never take off due to lack of structure and actually the fuel stations are being reduced and also only available in the bigger cities. Hydrogen also has gone up in price that it's not worth it.

That "engine" isn't new and it doesn't really work all that well. Fuel cells are not very efficient and making hydrogen isn't a nice process. This is just an attempt by Toyota to put up a smoke screen and get people to delay purchases of other brands.

Every day the Toyota CEO says they have a new engine that will spell the end of electric cars. Can Toyota build those engines?
@JimmyOKennedy

If Toyota could really have created this economically, they should have released it to the market twenty years ago already. Now they have already lost the race against electric cars and batteries and only Toyota is looking for new solutions. Now their ongoing hydrogen proposals are similar to a wishfull school project and a joke if you consider it is coming from an existing company, it is similar to Kodak.

It's way past time Meyer's water powered car got someone's attention and production. But will it ever see the light of day? Although this is NOT the Meyer design. The real question is... why not? He proved you could turn any gas powered car into a hydrogen powered car with a $10 add on part to the carb. Why are you not looking at that? Oh, ya, they un-alived Mr. Meyer and his pesky little add-on gadget because it would put the oil co's out of business. Hydrogen power has ALWAYS been the right direction. And if MUSK was the person you all think he is that would have been his direction from the start, not the Tesla direction he took! #FoodForThought

Daft video. Look at the inordinate complexity of a modern internal combustion engine and gearbox. A large number of moving parts which wear and require replacement or adjustment and inefficient use of energy - the best are about 30% efficient. Add to that the inherent dangers and difficulties of using hydrogen as a fuel such as a whole new infrastructure. Even the pumping/compression losses are significant. Why convert water and electricity to hydrogen (and oxygen)? Compare to an EV. It has essentially one moving part: the rotor and its bearings. Which will last longer? Which will be cheaper to maintain? Even the hyped "battery range" and "battery life" issues are becoming non-issues as the technology advances. It is luddite nonsense to claim that any ICE engine will mean the end of electric vehicles.
@robgrune3284

the claims are LIES. anyone with grade 11 chemistry knows equations. combustion requires O. the O source? our air. if H is input, and H2O is output, then this engine consumes O from our air. uh, what will less O in our air mean over time? but air is comprised of N, O, Ar, CO2, others. all these will be input and combusted to outputs. there is NO elimination of harmful gases, and in fact NOx may increase. the O in our air is already decreasing. why? nitrogen fertilizers. our air is now 72% N. did you know N is a greenhouse gas? how much of our air is carbon? 0.3%. think about it.

It will be wonderful if it’s allowed to be developed. Mainly the fossil fuel companies would buy out the patents and designs, therefore stifling the innovation. Governments too would bulk at the prospect of not being able to tax it, especially if you could fill up from your household tap, or god forbid a local river! Maybe if instead of a conventional piston driven engine, they could use a Wankle style engine with less moving parts

It was developed, and it does not work well. Car-internal hydrogene production from water sounds great, but is not true for the foreseeable future. It is huge processors instead, not energy-efficient. This is a badly made propaganda video, contradicting itself many times in crucial points.

How much will it cost to buy and maintain? How long will it last? What will it cost to replace? Where is the energy to split the water going to come from? Hydrogen can be moved in tanks. China's EVs are falling apart after a few years. I won't buy a Tesla while Musk maintains an interest in it. Batteries continue improve every week.
