Alluaudia procera “African Ocotillo”
Origin: Madagascar
Flower: White-green
Description: Although similar in appearance, the “African Ocotillo” is not related to Fouquieria splendens (Ocotillo), which is native to the Sonoran Desert in North America. In nature, this plant can reach over 30 feet tall and grows as a spiny succulent shrub with thick stems to store water. During the winter the leaves are deciduous and return in the spring-summer. Great container plant or in larger xeriscape landscapes, rock and succulent gardens.
Sun: Full to partial sun
Water: Once every 10 days outdoors during the spring-summer; in winter reduce or give no water when leaves drop.
Frost: 35 - 40 °F, Mature plants can tolerate to 32° F
