'punishing' an opponent with a million extra turns is a really cool win condition

@shrekthenoob

You would either win by decking them out, or by using your removal on all their threats and eventually youd just kill them with the Chronosavant. Decks back then couldnt run infinite answers like they do now, so usually after 3 or 4 Wraths and some spot removal you were in the clear to swing.

@@shrekthenoob Wait how would you swing without turns? Or did you not actually go infinite but just skip turns according to board state?
@shrekthenoob
5 ай бұрын
@@ChouRaiyuki You only did it against decks you knew werent heavy on creatures, but you didnt have to use Chronosavant every time it was up. Youd let them take all the turns they needed to get a decent board state, Wrath of God, give them a minute, then if the coast looked clear you'd throw two or three of your Chronosavants out at the the same time. Ruling at the time said that, even with 3 instances of 'you skip your next turn' on the stack, you only lost 1 turn to put out 2 or 3 5/5s. Long story short, slow roll the combo, store a spot removal or two in your hand, dump out 2+ Chronosavants, 2 turn kill with protection.

@@armitroner Mate I use stifle because its the first card of that kind and probably most known :). If you want to be more specific, Trickbind which was released in Time Spiral the very same set as Chronosavant (the giant that let you skip the turn) is stifle, but with split second. So that should be very much legal at the same time... Though granted I was playing extended in 2000s when I faced that there.

You play a monowhite control shell that uses the Martyr and Proclamation of Rebirth to gain stupid amounts of life, while using board wipes to keep things clear and keep your opponent from winning the game. Then you simply use the ability to bring back Chronosavant to skip a bunch of turns and your opponent decks themself while chipping away at your life total. The deck was called Martyr Proc

@spencerschmidt-rundell1612 So it's NOT a combo? I can understand an exaggeration between two things that likely don't have a functional difference (i.e. 1,000 squirrel tokens and a million) but 15-18 life per turn for several turns before giving your opponent infinite turns doesn't seem functionally the same as 100 billion.

@@felixstoll5359 It's a bad exaggeration imo when it's in a game where gaining 100 million life from infinite combos is a common thing to happen in weird combos, rather than it being an obvious exaggeration it feels more like something missing from the vid. Especially with a grindy lifegain mechanism like this that needs you to churn 6 mana each time that doesn't even go exponential or anything. It'd be hard to even hit 1000 with that.

I want to see the math how you want to get to these absurd life totals with martyr of sands. I'm not buying it, even if you would have like all white cards from your deck in your hand, it's barely above 100 life per activation (which obviously doesn't happen since your hand won't be this full), so arbitrary life must be gained elsewise.
