Unintentional as it may appear, people love the "bad boy/bad guy" charm. Real recognizes real and that's what the Diaz brothers are. They uphold their own morals, stand by their beliefs, keep it real, and apologize to no one. That deserves credit in my opinion and it's not unintentional. It's the same reason people love good ol' Chael. Side note: You saying, "Get a load of this" after the ED ad had me rolling, intentional or not.

I think Chael remembers the GSP vs Nick fight differently from history. The fight was cancelled and Nick spent the next year and a half fighting Carlos Condit and BJ Penn to get the title shot back. It also came down to GSP ultimately turning down a fight with Carlos because he wanted to specifically fight Nick. Nick was suspended after the Carlos fight due to marijuana and I think he overtrained for the GSP bout bc he felt flat going into the octagon and didn’t perform to his full potential. Fascinating piece of ufc history for sure tho.

@AU-ru8hk

Diaz Bros play by their own rulz. They don't care about the UFCs rulz, judges point scoring, none of that, middle finger to it all. When they step into the octagon, they have their own sense of 1) how you fight and 2) how you win a fight, which may/or may not be consistent with how the judges score the fights. Every fight they are in, in their heads, is a street fight. Kill or be killed, like Nate has said. You go in there and scrap, and the better man, which is the toughest man, which showed how tough he is in that fight, wins. I would love to see a promotional vehicle with judges and point scoring BASED around their sense of fighting. I think when the UFC first started it USED to be more like that. But over time, they've added rules, and it has moved away from - hey, let's put this guy who is a karate expert in there with a sumo wrestler, and let's see who wins this street brawl with minimal rules. I think the Diaz Brothers and their philosophy on fighting satisfies something inside a fight-fans primal sense of WHY they want to watch a fight to begin with. It is the reason, why in high school, people gather to watch 2 people fight after school. Their is something raw, untamed, primal, savage, ego, dominance about the way they approach the fight game. Serious question- who is a bigger star right now, Diaz or McGregor? Who is the biggest promotion in the UFC? I will say this though- none of this is possible if Nate Diaz went in there and got knocked out or submitted in seconds. The way Nate Diaz triumphs and GETS BIGGER is through his ability to sustain damage and keep coming at opponents- to never be out-and-out humiliated and defeated. Even against Masvidal, he got rocked and looked bad at times, but he didn't get destroyed to the point he couldn't continue or tapped out. I know for me personally, this trait, this ability to be able to be bloodied and messed up, but still continuing on, pressing the fight, it appeals to me in a way I have a hard time describing. It is like a metaphor for life, for holding your ground as a man, against the onslaught of what life can throw at you. To still stand against it all, wobble, but not be humiliated and destroyed, but to still press on against it, always seeking victory. There is something truly satisfying, deep down about that. The only draw for me in the UFC are the Diaz brothers because of this.
