Thank you Jasmine for showing us the beauty that is Ghana and this history too. It is encouraging to know that Ghanaians hold these places sacred to honor the memory of those who passed through. I love the beaches in the Volta region. I think I visited the Akosombo(?) damn area while there. We are truly one people no matter which side of the Atlantic.

@@JasmineAmaa please, you must visit Atorkor since you are touring the Volta region...Atorkor is closer to ANYANUI where you can cross the Volta to Ada Foah...If you go to Atorkor you can visit the Slave Market. My cousin Sylvannus Apetorgbor is the local historian and my younger Cousin Mark Aidam runs a modest Hotel where you can enjoy your own personal feast. I will like to sponsor your trip so please give me your contact. We are descended from Atorkor Royalty. My Maternal Ancestors including my Mom are buried there.🤗🤗🤗

I’m falling in love with Volta region oooo! Keta is lovely indeed. Nice presentation but regarding the narration of historical events our ancestors weren’t slaves they were enslaved. It’s always touching hearing about the heinous ordeal they encountered. That’s real showcase of human resilience and survival. Never knew Keta has that history too, most common we hear is Cape Coast, Elmina and Christianburg castle in Accra. Thanks for sharing!

This is a good presentation, but I have one problem. Most of the people transported were not 'slaves', but were 'enslaved'. If you called them slaves, you are implying that they were born slaves, or were slaves when they were capture. Only a tiny minority of the people were enslaved in Africa before they were sold. Majority were war captives or abducted, and made into slaves. So next, instead of calling them slaves, lets call the 'enlsaved' people. They are our ancestors, let us humanise them.

Agreed. Also, the enslaved were kept in *dungeons* not castle. We are changing the narrative to drive home the true *deluge* of the *inhumane- carnage and brutalization that our ancestors were *forced* to endure.Ase!

The ingenuity of my African- family is admirable;using bottle with coconut to catch Talipia.Still, our Ancestors attempting to escape the dungeons by digging through-stones- with their *fingernails* speaks of the shear-discipline-desire- and determination to remain *free and **-soverign-*- These are some of the survival- traits in our DNA; let's make our 👑Ancestors proud!✨

A very delicate coastal town to live in, considering it is a sandbank. The lagoon is behind and the sea is in front, with no proper protection from the sea, tidal waves will continue to ravage their properties. Google maps shows that it may be best for them to relocate to the east or west of the lagoon. The natives were informed so many years ago about the ravages of the sea. Most of Keta is under the sea today, lots of wealth and properties just disappeared off the planet.

correction: Keta means the head of the sand, NOT on top of the sand. The meaning is connected to the history of migration and settlement of the Anlo Ewes who live there.

There are more than a hundred slave castles spread accross the coastal towns of Ghana, if I am not mistaken; from Keta to Bayin; in the Western Region, in addition to the Landmark Trench at a town called Komantste in the Central Region where some of our white slave captors were boobie trapped by falling into the deep trench while in persuits to capture our fathers into slavery. It is populary known as "Komantse awumonamu" which literally means: the Komantse dead trap. An indication that our forefathers bravely and gallantly fought with their captors before they were overwhelmed by the power of brown gun. Check it out. Sad.

The brother need to adjust his narrative, no slaves left Africa. Africans became enslaved when they reached the west. Most of the Africans who came here resisted enslavement either passively or actively. It is conservatively estimated that 12.5 million Africans were taken from Africa but only 10.7 arrived here in the west, therefore almost 2 million are at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean. 🇯🇲
