Lived in MN and north eastern IA for years. We used to see them swimming when we canoed the river. Beautiful too watch and so graceful.

That river otter is so adorable when rolling in the snow. But it's not just for fun, his wavy hairs of the dense underfur form air spaces, which help prevent contact between the cold water and the otter's skin. In general, otters take good care of their fur. They are often seen rolling, shaking, and fluffing or preening their hair to restore trapped air after being in the water.

I have a question. Are river otters and sea otters all that related or are they just named similarly? Love your content by the way!

They actually are related, an otter is any carnivoran that belongs to the family Lutridae.

OTTERS! I love the frolicking free, playful and life loving River Otter! If I could choose an animal to be reincarnated as - it would be one of these guys. Even their diet of fish, clams and ctawdads appeal to me.
