I just watched this now. Wow! What a great story! God definitely has a plan for us and our animals. This video is the perfect example of why watching the Arms Family Homestead is such a joy. We learn so.much from you and your terrific family, Daniel. I had no idea they use eggs to research heart disease and other things. Houston must be so impressed that the Roosters were going to make such a difference in this world. Just a really great story. 😊😊😊😊

Back in the mid 70’s I lived on an old farm in Minnesota while in college. The owner lived in town but in the early spring he would get about 2000 chicks which he would allow to free range. We did have a barn/coop but since the farm was in a narrow valley they just roamed. All my roommates and I did was open and close the barn door The chickens took care of themselves. We had barred rock, those island reds and leghorns. In the fall he and his kids would harvest most of the birds and occasionally they would come out for eggs. Usually we got all the eggs. There was a large leghorn rooster we called Foghorn He stood around 3foot tall and was fearless. Turn your back on him and you risked an attack. Your videos bring back of memories of a great time of my life. Thank you

I get mine from Cackle Hatchery. The meat birds I ordered strait run. They are in Missouri. Them came by USPS. I didn't loose a single bird. I raised 25 Cornish X for the freezer. Also ordered Rode Island Reds for my brown eggs. 11 hens and 2 boosters. The reds were given their shots. Don't mess with the feed stores...go to the pro's Just my opion.

And Cackle IS PRO! Some of their hatching eggs come from purebred Show poultry. It's sort of a neat way to hide who the breeder is. (No one can claim whose bloodlines they are and mess someone's great reputation up.) So, the youth in 4 H (or anyone who gambles on Hatchery chickens to show professionally) may end up with true show stock. If you want really good birds to show, I reccomend going to an old time show breeder. My GGdad was a Poultry Judge with the American Poultry Association and was co-author of the Standard of Perfection. The book to Judge purebred poultry by. He helped start The APA. E.C. Branch. I will send you some info. I know you would love it.

Cackle or Murry hatchery are the best! I've never got a wrong order or wrong sexes. Any birds I've bought from around town ends up getting sick while in quarantine! I sure won't be doing that again. It's a risk to my entire flock.

What a nice story! I'm sorry though, to know, that there are scammers, too, in your place. Last year, i was hoping to buy a pair of a chicken and a rooster. The seller said that when those chicks i was buying grows up, one will become a hen and the other a rooster. But when both grew up, they were both hens, no rooster! I was scammed! How can i have chicks in the future if i don't have a rooster??! And so, it took many months after before i was able to buy a young rooster which has grown big now. Thanks for sharing this video! And i really adore your pet dachshund, she's so cute!!!

Noemi Salamante Sorry you feel you got scammed, but at least you got two hens! Usually it's two roos! And it's usually easy to find someone dying to have someone take a rooster off their hands. Shame you paid money for a rooster, unless you wanted a specific breed or something.

Had a chicken farm for a year we ran 7500 hens and 700 roosters for a hatchery. It was a great experience, lots of work the first thing you need to impress (literally) on the roosters is who is the boss. My son approximately 12 at time found that out when a rooster thought it would be a good idea to take a run out of him. Have a great day.

I believe the Leghorn gets its name from a town in italy where the breed was developed. It is correctly pronounced "leggern", and thats not just a southern thing.
@tarantulady8565
6 жыл бұрын
Bo Bauer Yep, that’s how it’s pronounced, and we pronounce it that way up north, too! My grandfather (born 1917, Iowa) always said it that way. Here in Michigan, we say leggern, too. Leg-horn just doesn’t sound right. lol Just an guess - maybe the old Foghorn Leghorn cartoons destroyed the proper pronunciation.🤷🏻♀️😂

Bo Bauer I was reading the comments looking to see if anyone else had mentioned Leghorn Italy. I discovered this many years ago, also that they were developed in the 1500s or so. Had an Aha! moment when I realized it was the Renaissance . . . all that egg tempera paint . . . Got me wondering if they were developed to keep all those artists in eggs for their painting contracts.
