Extremely painful. I did it a few times when still learning how to dismount a bar properly and it basically felt like i annihilated my hip multiple times. Thankfully it wasn't actually broken or fractured just bruised to hell and back and my whole body felt completely numb yet somehow still move-able by the end of that lesson😅

According to people who trained back then, *if* you hit on the right part of the body (the upper thighs, just below your pubic bone) it didn't hurt at all. But the bars had to be set specifically for your body and if you were even the slightest bit off.... ouch.

i think in the olden days, uneven bars were the same distance as p bars. like, ub = pb with one igher up. these days they're a lot farther apart, so a lot of older skills aren't even possible anymore
@soapygirl83

It depends on the era. In 60's definitely. By the 70's I think they started to be set wider. If you watch Nadia's bars she had spacers between the bars and the bars got wider and wider in the 80's to 90's. I am not sure when the FIG created a standard width. It really sucks for taller athletes because they aren't allowed to change the width between bars and that makes it harder to tap swing and not hit the low bar.
@pppetra
9 ай бұрын
It had a standard width. The apparatus changed a bit during the past 50 years. the one used in the old days had a little wiggle room as to distance and how tight it was anchored to the ground. It also had oval wooden bars. (I used that type for over a decade) the new one is at least double the distance in between but has round bars. I used to do a cartwheel to handstand with one hand on both bars.after the change i had room for a giant around the low bar. It became a new apparatus with a totally different set of skills to be done. I one day came in and siad i will no longer do bars. I could not get used to the thin bars, the leathers you now needed, the distance and all the wobbling of the bars. And the distance in between was not my liking either. I continued aanother façade having fun.. till they made a Pegasus and that is when i stopped completely. I did continue to train for a year or 2 on a small gym. They had no money for a Pegasus and i did pbar, vault, beam and floor for fun@@soapygirl83

She won many gold medals at that time, but not for this routine, only because the judges decided that due to the dangerous nature of this movement, she could not win a gold medal even though they were very impressed. Indeed, it is dangerous for anyone who attempts it, but it was Olga's personal move and her performance was impressive and exceptional. I have watched this video hundreds of times and it never ceases to amaze me. Her every move was executed to perfection, for which she deserved a gold medal. She is a legend!
