I have the same type of monitor but a 32:9 aspect ratio. The resolution is perfect for driving the game at higher FPS with my monitor since it's slightly lower than yours. But it is still 49 inch wide so you get that immersion. Honestly, you'll learn more about graphics and modding just to get games to work properly when they are not supported. Like Fallout 4 required a program called flawlesswidescreen. It fixed the zoomed in bug and correctly adjust to proper FOV as well. It is a drag to set it up like that but once you got them, it is unlike any other. It is very immersive. You can actually feel the sense of speed when you're moving in the game and you are more aware of your surrounding. It is also tactically advantageous for MMORPG gamers because you get to see more than what average gamers can see and have up in terms of menus. Overall, this is as close to VR as you can get. And much simpler and cleaner version of multimonitor setup. I simply cannot go back to regular monitors any more or even tolerate consoles.

I own this, love it to DEATH. Listen if picture quality is more important than top refresh rate - your set. It's so bright it hurts my eyes. I have one of the quick settings set to lowest brightness (0 contrast 0 brightness) when its dark, in my room because its THAT bright still. 10 bit true color (NOT 8bit+FRC) @ 100hz. You wont be turning your head a lot and after a few months its like looking out a large window, you dont think about how wide it is. HDR1000 will pretty much blind you. If your into software programming the real estate is crazy. Notepad++,ATOM windows everywhere. Now get a good GPU because this resolution really drives your GPU into the ground.My RX480 is about ready to die.

Bought one a few weeks ago when the price dropped. Looking to replace my dual monitors as one died and decided to try this given its feature set. After getting over the 'wow' factor, there is still a lot I like a lot about it. Of course it is nice not having the center bezel as a dual monitor, the colors here approach full adobe rgb and DCI P3, 120 hertz (via displayport only) and of course it is HDR 1000. But I'm still not sure I'm going to keep it (I have till end of Jan to decide) so for anyone else who is considering dropping the notable amount of money for this, here are some issues to be aware of: Gaming - besides the GPU hit over standard 1440, the main issues with games are that many don't give you more information, they stretch the edge information. Also the HUD is almost always a problem because you can't adjust it so you are turning your head and changing your focus to see the information you need. That is bad in any twitch situation. HDR - This claims to have local dimming but it doesn't. So intra-scene HDR is better than not having HDR but it is not good. Mini-led array backlit (or OLED) displays that have just started to hit the high end are the only way to get good HDR. Here, if you have a movie on, which of course won't fill up the whole screen as this is wider than even CinemaScope, you see massive blooming all along the outside of the image as it does not have local dimming. Also, windows look terrible if you turn HDR on though that isn't the monitor's fault, it is MSFT's. Desktop apps - Windows and apps are not designed with this width in mind. Windows snap and fullscreen are no long a good experience. Fortunately installing and customizing Powertoys "fancy zones" mitigates a lot of the window sizing issues. However it doesn't let you maximize to those zones so things like youtube can only be run with all the browser noise around it unless you let it take over the whole screen. And related, many movies and shows that are 2.35:1 but designed for 16x9 tv's have black bars encoded on the top and bottom and when you go full screen you don't have a way to crop these out with things like youtube. Display - Off axis viewing is very poor which isn't generally a problem with a computer monitor vs. a TV as it is just you sitting in one place right in front of it. However this "curved monitor" only curves in the middle for some reason. The outside ~10" is flat so it is notably further away from you than the center is and is off angle because of the lack of curve. It isn't a huge difference but it can be irritating or even problematic depending on what you do. Dual 16x9 monitors, especially curved ones, don't have this issue as you can of course angle them individually. Other - The display is limited in refresh rate and color because of display port limitations. HDMI 2.1 and Displayport 2.0 should be in monitors this year. And as mentioned high zone mini-led array backlighting monitors are coming as well. So if you don't need to buy now, waiting until at least CES would be advisable as that should give you an idea of what is coming.

I have this monitor. I think that a Twitch Streamer will have to live with splitting this monitor into two in general usage, and I can say that splitting it into two makes getting two screens a better solution for them. Left side and right side are in different time zones. On another note this has to be the best monitor that anyone can want. Like think about it, it is a 1440x5120 resolution, so it is not a cheap fast but low resolution UW (take HZ give up resolution with 1080p ones), it has 120HZ so it is amazing for EVERYTHING (144HZ bullies begone please, 120HZ is enough) and guess what, at around 1.000$ it is a bargain already. One of the main things I had wanted to do was be able to run in nvidia surround mode, but nvidia doesn't like mixing different aspect ratios. I actually want something a bit taller. I’ve been using a 32” 16:9 and I really like the extra height afforded by that size. I tried a 34” 21:9 and it’s pretty close in terms of screen area (the 32” 16:9 is all of 5% larger) but you trade vertical height for horizontal width... I guess for me that didn’t seem like a good trade especially for how much more money the 34” ultra wide was. To my mind, a 21:9 with a larger panel size than what you can currently buy would be a nice compromise. For example, this Samsung is basically two 27” 16:9 monitors next to one another. I want a 21:9 with the same height as a current 32” 16:9.

Samsung will release an updated model of this monitor this year with a more exaggerated curve and 240hz (and a flashier design), but I'm honestly considering going for this model instead of waiting around. I think 120hz will be plenty for me, especially when the newer model surely is going to cost 300$ or more compared to this one. Great review.

5120x1440 240hz 1ms HDR1000 coming soon, the Odyssey G9. I CANT WAIT. I am getting one to replace my dual monitor setup. currently rocking an alienware 240hz 1080p 8bit basic TN monitor, and a 1440p 144hz HDR600 samsung to my left for movies. And both can be replaced with one monitor come second quarter this year. I CANT WAIT. I just hope the new monitor supports VESA mounting because I cannot stand bulky monitor stands, I will never go back to stands after using ARMS, but if its the same mounting system as current samsung monitors, the answer is yes, it supports vesa. i hope.
@_ATHENODOROS_

Can you wait that long? I'm expecting it around third quarter time. Although you do state you can't wait hehe
@goblinphreak2132
4 жыл бұрын
@@_ATHENODOROS_ its been said second quarter, so April/May/June timeframe for the G9. "I cant wait" in this way I mean that I am really really excited. Most companies would rather regurgitate the same monitors over and over. For example 1080p 144hz. You can get old versions for like 120 new, but brand like Asus selling "new" versions for around 250.... why? Overpriced garbage. Samsung is the first brand to listen to consumers and offer much more than other brands are. They want the sales so they push the boundaries. I mean, 5120x1440 with 240hz and HDR1000 at this point in time is god tier spec. Its unheard of! Generally if you want 240hz you are stuck in 1080p land. Personally, I LOVED the sharpness of 1440p. I had the Asus 165hz 1440p IPS monitor. Wasn't bad but the 4ms response was "too damn high" for me in fps games. The TN version of that monitor although 1ms response, had a processing lag of 6ms making it a 7ms monitor, while for some reason the processing time on the IPS was 1ms, so a total of 5ms for IPS.... weirdness. Then I bought the Samsung CHG70 27". only 144hz but has HDR600. The 1MPRT response time was legit. Smoothest gameplay ever. But the 144hz was bugging me. Mainly because my buddy had 240hz, and when he was dead and spectating me, he wondered why i didnt see the enemy. That alone convinced me to buy 240hz. So I bought the alienware 240hz freesync version. 240hz is legit. Now im seeing shit others don't and calling it out for them. "hes to your right" boom they turn and get the kill. "how did you see that" and my reply is 240hz. then they generally say they have 144hz.... from my own testing higher refresh rate makes for better gaming. I had a buddy on 60hz and WE would see the enemy but he wouldn't. and he would die and say "where was i killed from" and we would say "the doorway right in front of you". we had higher refresh 240hz rates so we see enemies before he did at 60hz. so again, 5120x1440 ultra wide, with 240hz and 1ms, is gonna be siiiick. then add hdr1000 for those handful of games plus HDR movies..... im sold

@@gec5741 my brother is currently on 3440x1440 60hz with 100hz overdrive, he's using a 3950x and 1080ti and gets at LEAST 60 fps when gaming. now you have a 2080ti which is way more powerful than a 1080ti, now you could argue that my brothers monitor is less pixels because 3440x1440 vs 5120x1440, but also slower gpu still. science studio on KZitem, as much as i hate the guy because he's got that typical rich kid "i know everything because im rich" attitude, recently did a video where he unboxed a 5120x1440 AOC monitor, and ran it will a 2070. he noted some games he had go turn down settings to get higher fps. max settings he was sound 60fps and then medium/low mix around 100fps. but he's also on a 2070. also note, running 5120x1440p is 7372800 pixels. typical 4k is about 8294400 pixels. pretty close. so if you want to know if you can drive such a panel, just look at 4k benchmarks. and generally those benchmarks are 4k max settings. "usually". so gives you an idea of what to expect. 2080ti is pretty powerful lol

Would you please film Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS 2020) on this display so we could see what it means to the simulation community in terms of viewing "around the corner" when approaching the airfield in a rectangular "pattern"? Would greatly help! Also, if you own the HP Reverb 2 VR headset, can you do a review/description of what that is like? Finally you built a Corsair system with push-pull fans on the 360mm Cappelix radiator... in a Corsair 5000D Airflow case - can you please do a more-detailed explanation/video showcase of how you WIRED ALL THOSE 12 (or 11 or whatever) fans together? I am a newbie to RGB fans and it is daunting to say the least, in terms of the controllers/hubs needed and how 'more hubs/controllers' can be handled by a typical gaming motherboard/case. Basically what a 16:9, 1920x1080 monitor was for their FOV, like blinders got put on them. Ultra wide and more monitors are like taking the side blinders off.
