I'll say it again: Lauren is one of the best teachers out there. I had so many little issues that kept me from understanding how the upright bass worked and Lauren's concepts are truly helpful for even an advanced player to itemize and get things together.

14' 48" "avoidance of practicing is a perfectionist trait" 🤯 !!! Thank you, Lauren . . . that really struck me, I think that awareness is going to help me.

I just started this book. I play jazz so bowing has been a weak point for me. However I'm finding that 5 to 15 minutes of daily work on this is helping me find things that need fixing. The simplicity of doing one scale in a linear fashion, rather than all the combinations of arpeggios, broken scale fragments and using many fingerings up and down the neck is a really great focus. Also starting from whole notes and going up to 16th's has been very helpful in working on time, good bow motion, proper fingerings, intonation. I will admit that I don't always read the notes since it's easy to memorize the fingerings. That makes it easier to listen carefully.

That’s great to hear-sounds like a good approach with the 5-15 minutes a day. I think that’s about the same amount of time that I spend on this type of practicing as well. Thanks for checking this out!

Excellent book. I'm glad I added this to my Practice. It helps me stay disciplined and actually spend time every day on scales. And I need all the help I can with my reading, so It's great having sheet music in front of me to read as I'm doing the scales. Thank you Lauren for a valuable resource.

Congrats on the book Lauren, looks great. Good video Jason, I especially enjoyed the sub-titles. I always wanted to cook on the bass. Maybe you can share more exercises you got from Chef Brad Stage! LOL

I'm tempted of buying it. But I really need some workout with the other minor scales as well. Any suggestions for a good book (with fingerings) that deal with melodic and harmonic minors?

This is a great question. I’ll work on something with natural, harmonic, and melodic minor scales-hopefully coming soon!
