If I were in LA, 100%, even though I'm not in the market for another bunny. It is just heartbreaking how scared she was and that all it takes is 15 minutes for her to start opening up and accepting pets. I can't believe such a sweetie is passed from shelter to shelter.

It’s hard to even foster and not get too attached. I ended up foster failing twice on top of the 4 bunnies we already had. But we did foster over 40 bunnies in 10 years until I had to cut ties with the shelter after a bad experience after our Slate who was 11 years old was put down and the shelter misplaced his ashes. Took me over a month of numerous phone calls to get them. This was in Minnesota. 😢

@@Feed_the_Kitty_a_Hotdog so sorry! I lost my first rabbit in February and don't feel the same. The stress of making sure your other rabbit is okay is a lot too hence why I've got 3 now. Anything happens they still should have one other rabbit they love and don't have to worry... Fostering is something I wanted too but not got extra space to keep separate from mine and territory issues

@@jodiewhitham6850 Not sure what you referring too? With your rabbit having another rabbit and you don’t agree. I never stated anything about that rabbits shouldn’t be bonded to one another. I agree on that. I just don’t agree with the way some shelters lack communication and the way I was treated by the shelter I volunteered for is what soured me from fostering any further rabbits for them after 10 years and them almost loosing my rabbits ashes. I had him for 10 years out of 11 years he was alive and beyond me how you can misplace an animals ashes and not call the owner when they get there.

@@Feed_the_Kitty_a_Hotdog it's not related. I was just saying in own situation I found it hard navigating my own grief and my other rabbit's grief. I was sharing that as can't imagine having to worry about ashes on top of that grief.

Bunnies are too sweet. Why anyone would dump them is beyond me. And we took on a bunny, she was shy and didn't understand she had more room than she ever had as she was in a very small cage for years. She was called luna and we adopted her after Rosie passed away and Ruby was left on her own. Rehabilitating her really made every day worth it because not only was she the sweetest bunny (as they all are!) she's one of the reasons I want to work with animals and doing animal therapy because she helped me so much, they all did. Im hoping once my health is better I would like to volunteer at my local shelter to help out 😊.

One of our buns is very similar to Bugsy. She was at a non rabbit savvy shelter, working in conjunction with our rabbit rescue to adopt her and her siblings. They had been rescued from outside and they were all so scared of people. We took our first bun to rabbit dating and her chose her, and they adore each other. When we brought her home she wouldn't let us anywhere near her. She would shake and cower and hide. It's been more than a year and she's made a ton of progress, still doesn't really want to be touched by the humans but she isn't cowering/shaking anymore and I know she loves us in her own way. She chooses to come spend time around us when she wants to and we don't try to push her more than she's comfortable with. She and Ollie have each other and they are happy and that's all that really matters to us.

I had someone from the internet randomly drop off a Holland lop rabbit that had been traumatized by young children and the bunny would shake in the corner and grunt so loud and leap to bite any hand near it. I named her Princess Sprinkles 💖 bc she was such a cute little blue-eyed white fluffy bunny and it took about 6 months but now she will sit in my lap and look at me with her blue baby eyes, and she is very spicy but I know she feels safe and happy she is free roam. I almost started a Dodo series for her, but in the beginning it didn’t feel right to put a camera in her face bc she was traumatized so I just gave her space and kept it very basic gentle bunny parenting for a couple months until she was ready to eat snacks out of my hands or be picked up and groomed. 🐰💕

When I had adopted my rabbit Bun, she was so shy and scared until I took her home and let her settle in. She ended up being the most bold and sassy rabbit I had ever met. She used to grunt and charge at full speed to the litter box for a hay refill, she also would jump on the bed to dig at our blankets and snuggle me and my husband at night. It’s so awesome how each bunny has their own unique personality and mine just happened to be a sweet little menace lol :)

Lorelei thanks so much for doing a shelter tour - we need more awareness of the amazing buns in the shelters. I adopted our new family member, Clouseau (AKA “Jimmy”), from South LA/Chesterfield in December who makes us laugh every day with his zoomies, binkies and cuddles. We visited 3 of the LA shelters, met the volunteers and the buns and just clicked with Clouseau. I have such deep gratitude for the volunteers and the team at LA Animal Services. For anyone looking for a particular breed and thought a breeder is the only way to do that, you can find any particular breed at the shelters (there were two bonded mini holland lops when we were visiting) or rescues. When adopting from a shelter you know they’ve had full medical, are in clean conditions, are spayed/neutered (saves you $$$) and aren’t being adopted so young that it’s unhealthy.

If we get in our bun's cage he goes into attack mode...lol He doesn't like anyone getting in his space. He is a free range indoor / outdoor bun. Lorelei, thank you for raising awareness of bunnies in shelters. In central nj I know of Tribbles Rescue for bunnies. The wonderful lady who owns it works so hard rescuing and placing bunnies. Especially dumped bunnies. There is a real problem of people dumping them in NJ.( I know the lady on the video said some people will say that out of embarrassment) but seriously people dump them in NJ and they have to be caught. I feel so bad for the bunnies!! Let’s all raise awareness to encourage adopting. You are helping educate people on rescuing and caring for bunnies. I feel it took decades for dog and cat adoptions to become more of the norm. I pray this can be for bunnies and birds and small animals, too.

I´m so glad for the awareness that bunnies at a shelter sometimes take time to feel a connection with. I experienced this too when searching for a new bunny. I will keep this in mind if I ever will be getting new bunnies. I also wasn´t ready to have the bunny neutered before taking her home as I wanted to do it in my own time but the shelter demanded it be done before I took her home. I do understand that. It makes me so happy when you give the Bugsy some love. You are a true bunny wisperer like me 🥰 Watching from Denmark.

I would love to volunteer at a rescue, but I don’t think I can handle any more disgust of humans than I already have. I’d want to take them all home with me. I have my 2 rescues and I love them dearly . Lulu and I play a game where I tickle his butt and he turns around like, “No, Mom, pet my head!” When I adopted Drew Bunnymore, she was found roaming the streets, cold and wet. She is a REW lionhead, so it’s miraculous she even survived versus succumb to a predator. She used to be a picky eater and only want to eat hay and pellets and now she loves everything Lulu does. Hardest part of bonding them is Drew is an overgroomer, so Lulu went through some bald patches, but it’s getting better. I can’t imagine life without a pair of bunnies now. I will say it is nice that some bunnies aren’t bonded at rescues because when you do lose a mate, like my Lulu lost his Sophie, it was nice to know there was some single gals to try to match him with.

Aloha. Thank you Lorelei. taking the time to visit these cute creatures and giving them some time and social warmth. They are all their own lil personalities. I have a story to share too. When i moved in my first own flat with a lil nice garden patch i noticed a white Loopear bunny in midst of winter in my lil garden. I have a vent from our underground car basenent there and due to the warm vented air from below there was always a 2 sqaremeter patch without ice or snow. There was a lot of snow in the 201x year.. I had a 400 liter aquarium and plants grew like crazy. I removed a handful of watercale, Elodea densa (waterpest in common lang.) and other plants on a daily basis. I just threw them next to the vent. One late evening i noticed a medium sized white loopbunny munching the gras and the waterplants. She was a daily customer and shy but happy. If i had known how cool they are as pets i would have taken her in. I was always so exausted and sleepy from work i never thought i could have managed to take her in. Sigh. A neighbours kid took her iin later. Hope it worked out. I'll honestly miss her and would take her in at once if it happened again. Thank you Lorelei for teaching us all about them and reminding us to love them ❤

She has brought so much pleasure into my life. I enjoy giving her a good life.
