This can also help prevent climber's elbow. Relying too much on your arms and not enough on the rest of your body puts way more stress on your arms.

This is great advice however it’s worth noting there are definitely a lot of boulders out there especially at the high level where you need to be in a deep lock off a lot of the time. But for beginners this is definitely the best advice to give. Figured I’d put that out there since nobody seems to be mentioning it

Lengthening your neck straightens your body and brings your hips in over your feet - i drill this and use it all the time now. Literally the most easily applied way to turn a climb from desperate and frustrating to workable and possible. Thanks!

Anyone have tips for tall climbers? I'm 6"3 and find if I'm trying to climb with straighter arms in mind, my ass sticks out more and I'm further away from the wall, making it harder than if I bunch up.
@YoutubeCommenter1
4 ай бұрын
This depends on the angle of the wall, on slab you might need to have your arms bend. But I think what you really should focus on is feet and leg techniques. By using things like flagging and dropknees, you can lean back from holds and safe energy in your arms, even if you are tall (speaking as someone around 6'2). But what kind of steepness do you have most problems on?

I've got a lot of mass in my upper body. Sometimes I have to pull myself closer to the hold to not get tired in my forearms. If I straighten my arms, the weight of my upper body ends up more horizontal and less on my feet. Grip endurance suffers. So, sometimes I have to sacrifice my biceps to save endurance in the forearms.
@szpaqus
Жыл бұрын
kinda sounds like your fingers are not strong enough? maybe? hard to say just from a description but defo something's not right. don't get me wrong, you cannot climb on always straight arms but you should climb on feet, not on your biceps. I've seen a ton of beefy people climbing and they still have good form.

I watched the full video this is from a few weeks ago, and I’m only going into my 5th or 6th time climbing this week and I’ve already been trying to tell my friends about jolly giraffe lol. It feels counterintuitive to not scrunch up when you first start climbing, but I can totally feel how much easier climbing is this way. Now to just get strong enough to do the right technique and not have to try hard turtle…

This has been my battle! I’m an opera singer, so it’s crucially important that I climb with a long, relaxed neck. Problem is, sometimes when I’m trying super hard I regress into my turtle self. Scapular protraction combined with a cue to send the neck back + up has been crucial. Or just try to climb like Adam Ondra 😂

@@hannahmorrisbouldering Oh yeah 😎? Well? That's what called a long, tall Reach back in 1969.(skyscraper).Kermantle rope known as Perlon was replacing the cheaper Goldline braided rope. Stopped Bouldering in 1969. Got interested in xcountry skiing, winter mountaineering and Mtn Rescue. joined Rocky Mtn Rescue in Boulder, Colorado. Two local climbers of fame were Royal Robins and Layton Korr. (Think 🤔 Layton was a bricklayer). Layton's nephew Cordell Korr was climbing the 1000 foot east face of Longs Peak in Estes Park, when he fell, Hit his Belayer and broke belayer's arm. The Belayer grabbed the rope with his good hand/arm, pulled the rope across his chest and probably saved Both of their lives. Anyway Rocky Mtn Rescue decided to do a practice Rescue on Longs Peak. Very interesting. We had two 1000 foot spools of braided Goldline rope plus ➕ the 80-100 pound: "Bash Kit" beaners, pins, pitons and other assorted climbing hardware. Horses carried the spooled ropes and heavy gear to timberline. Everything then was off loaded. Me? I carried the "Bash Kit" and two 150 ft ropes and my down sleeping bag and cook Kit from Timberline to the 14,000 foot top of Longs Peak. Read somewhere that the old "Cable Route" that we Rescuers used in 1969, was removed by some purists? Anyway it has been a long, strange trip. Working in a hospital in California did some wall climbing in Yosemite with my x-ray tech friend and some Spelunking (cave exploring) in the late 1970's. Now I am retired. So? Happy Trails young lady.
