its gonna happen but when is the question. Everything costs to much for it not to collapse. Just wish the government wouldnt bail out those who fail and let capitalism do its thing.

Only problem is dealers are charging new prices plus markup on repo cars. If the car cost $40,000 in 2021 then the dealer puts it on the lot for $41,000 plus. They don't care ,and if it goes to action it will not sell below $38,000. There is nothing affordable out there. There is no buyer's market.

The motorcycle industry is a buyers market! You should be able to buy NEW outright a honda rebel under 5,000 msrp that gets 78 mpg and could last you 100,000 miles just like a car.

The car market is not crashing, this is normal. Everybody thought their car was worth so much during COVID. That was not a normal situation. Everything is going back to normal now.

Prices are down but they are still higher than before the pandemic but there are some red flags like layoffs at many car manufacturers

Try having $13,000 negative equity. Its a hoot. Highly recommended. I should've bought a fucking bicycle 😂😂
@LouisHansell

One more factor involving negative equity ~@3:30: The negative equity balance is being transferred from a lower interest rate loan to a higher interest rate loan. So not only is the principal owed on the new car loan higher due to negative equity, but also the amount of interest paid (on that negative equity) is higher. A complete lose-lose.

Thia is actually 'normal' for interest rates. The last 20 years with 2 and 3% interest was unusual as far as history goes. I bought my first house in 1994 with an 8% interest rate and at the time that was a great rate. It was adjustable and it adjusted twice, then rates dropped right before I sold. My second home in 97 was at 4.5%, the third one in 2000 at 3.5%, the one im in now I financed in 2019 at 2.75%. Rates aren't high now, but more in line with historical rates. Cars... Thats another thing. The coat of cars are absolutely insane now. Never mind the interest rates. Cars are not an investment unless uts some special $400,000 thing. The smartest thing to do is drive older cars. We could afford 2 new cars, but why? How much time do you really spend in your car? 15 minutes at a time? It sits and does nothing 99% of the time. Buy a reliable $5,000 car. You wont worry about dings and scratches and if something happens-big deal, you're out 5 grand. Go buy another one.

Paying a dealer mark up is absolutely stupid. I know people that have done it and they are dumber than a box of rocks. I have never paid more than MSRP for any car.

If there is a xse hybrid 2023 for 33k with 27k miles should i just go and pay maybe 5k more for a new 2024 same model?
@IdealCarsOfficial

Simply put, very likely YES! Especially with manufacture rebates/kickbacks and often times better interest rates on a new vehicle purchase, overall pricing might be even less than a $5k difference

Yeah, the entire predatory automobile industry is entirely their fault. I mean what kind of people need vehicles to go to work? It was near impossible to find a decent used car that wasn’t overpriced but that’s definitely their fault too. I was lucky enough to already own an older Toyota Camry with low miles in excellent condition so I didn’t have to buy a vehicle. Good thing I didn’t because the predatory pricing would have totally been my fault. I mean, all people should be mechanics or it’s totally their fault. Gosh, some people are just so ignorant, totally their fault.

Yeah I don’t think those stimulus checks were the issue. Everyone talks about those, but we’ve had those before with no issues. No one ever talks about the $600 a WEEK on top of regular unemployment. I was 21 at the time, living at home making $1000 a week. I had no bills, no responsibilities. And many others were making that too. People forget about the very large poor class, that went from making less than $30k suddenly getting 52k. Those are the ones who paid the mark up. Thats who’s getting a lot of the delinquency. Oh, and up that to dual income, you’ve suddenly got people making 6 figures on unemployment.

Blaming the dealer for your buying during a shortage is not the fault of the dealer it's yours. If people had not paid the markup the dealers would have not charged it.
