Speeding (the entire state of AZ is basically a racetrack) and distracted driving play a big part in these accidents. I live here, and drive in this area quite often. If you stay to the left and do not attempt to get off on one of these exits, you will be a LOT safer. This is NOT a place to change lanes. Traffic is going way too fast, not allowing sufficient following distances, and constantly changing lanes in an attempt to get one car length ahead. Simply enforcing traffic laws would easily prevent over half these accidents. Traffic laws, especially extreme speeding, aggressive driving, and constantly changing lanes for no reason except to pass a vehicle in front of you which is likely already over the speed limit.

*Arizona needs to raise the standard and requirement for knowledge of driving laws & rules and raise the driving skill level requirement to get a driver's license.* Arizona's requirements to pass a driving test and get a drivers license are some of the lowest in the United States; this correlates exactly with the other end of the spectrum which is Arizona being one of the worst driving states in the U.S. and being one of the states with the most vehicle-pedestrian wrecks, with the most vehicle wrecks and most vehicle fatalities in the U.S. Low standards and requirements to get in equals high problems when they do get in. Raise the standard and you'll reduce the problems. Why not strive to be the best driving state in the country instead of one of the worst?

That stretch is very dangerous. There's just too much going on there. I merge from the 51 then you have to jump out of the exit only lane towards 7st then you need to merge over more unless you are taking the I 17 exit. Again, too much going on in that one area.

This is such truth!!!💯 just moved out of AZ 2 months ago saw this every day. AZ doesn't even pay for kids tonhave driver Ed in school. 1k if you want to pay for your child privately. Maricopa needs to fund the schools to have drivers ed!!! I grew up in NJ and yes higher taxes but yes best schools and better education resources.

*This problem is much more a behavior problem of Arizona drivers, driver mindset regarding driving and the low driving skill level of Arizona drivers than it is a freeway layout issue.* That being said, the freeway layouts could use some adjustments for sure. One example is the glaring problem of the entrance and exit lanes (on-ramps and off-ramps). Entrance lanes and exit lanes should never be the same lane; people entering a freeway and exiting a freeway should never be in the same lane. This is a fixable problem and would make some great improvements to the valley's freeways and is worth it and should be done. However, the overall problem is about a 90% / 10% split with 90% of the problem being Arizona drivers' poor driving behavior, poor mindset regarding driving and low driving skill level and 10% being freeway layouts that could use some adjusting and improvements. That 10% should be done though, it will make some great improvements and can be done much faster than improving the mindsets, behaviors and skill level of Arizona drivers.

I've lived here since '93. It was bad then, but now is insane. All you have to do now for some bozo to get pissed off is to change lanes. They could be 300ft behind you, & they'll speed up & start raging on your bumper.

Simple truth is there is no flow of traffic on Arizona Freeways. Trailers are in every lane on the freeways bottlenecking traffic are usually involved in most of these accidents. They should be in the right 2 lanes like most other states. Road Laws in Arizona are a complete joke and so are the people managing them. Officials need to be help accountable!!!!

Need to require more to get a license to drive. Any idiot can get a license today. Second problem with this stretch of I 10 is they built and a fly over on a curve. When you get to that interchange people are confused with carpool lane and 2 lane that exit to the 202. So you have cars crisscrossing lanes to get in appropriate lanes to exit 202.

i drive hundreds of miles across the valley for work every week. its all the drivers getting in the left hand lanes to pass and getting over very last second even if its .5 miles before the exit for 202 and 51. it causes backups for MILES because people do this.

Also NJ had "jug handles"...no left turns...everyone always exits to the right. no traffic having to cross 9 lanes like in ohx to get off an exit! I moved to Phx 25 years ago first time and noticed this insanity with how these city planners didn't think that this would cause accidents!!! I am terrified for my 81 yr old mom driving to specialists on these rds as all elderly and less alert drivers need to be so careful. Both my kids even with driving school never felt comfortable driving these AZ freeways and hardly even the local roads as so many scarey intersection with lights that do not allow any time in between like other states. It is sad how many accidents we witnessed and even deaths of kids my kids knew in AZ. My husband will never move back and I only will if prices go down 80% so I can afford a high tech hooving tank to survive any of these AZ roads

I’ve been driving this interstate for 20 plus years. I do see a problem. Traveling east towards the 51 ramp north. Even though you are in the right lane to exit. From a distance, the overhead sign for the 51, looks to be in another lane. It needs to be mapped out better. Why? Because there are stupid people out there, with no common sense whatsoever.

I go to California quite a bit and the driving really starts to settle down once you get there and is much better there. Many times while I've been in California the driving was going smooth with no issues then I'll see someone do something stupid or aggressive and I'll look at their plate and sure enough, it's an Arizonan. I just shake my head and think, "That figures".
