I am in the Richmond area. In between the rain, my son has been wanting to get out a few times. We were having no luck either with all the typical winter stuff until he decided to fish his "confidence bait" (he's just 9yrs old and only this year has switched from nightcrawlers to lures): a little 3" black single tail grub on a ball head. I didn't think it would work, but dang! if he didn't catch a few while I was still striking out. I switched up to the same after a few minutes, and lo and behold! I got a pretty nice 3 pounder. We were just barely swimming it back with lots of pauses. Three days later, the same pattern repeated itself. Just goes to show, for all of the fancy stuff we have at our disposal now, sometimes the stuff we used as kids still fools 'em.

You’ve got to try the 6 sense 2.7” electric shiner on 1/8th oz 1/0 hook. Go heavy for deeper water but that’s what’s been doing damage for me.

Heck I was trout fishing this past spring and somehow got a carp on a rooster tail! Year before that caught a 6in lake trout on a night crawler when I was fishing for perch. This fall was salmon fishing and actually hooked a steelhead not a salmon line broke but all the yrs I’ve been going there and hear people saying how many steelhead and there I actually hooked one on salmon rig

Lipless has been crazy good for me Nov-Dec! Caught 70 in 2 days a few weekends ago. TN60 and LV150. When that starts not working I switch to a blade bait (no rattle) and clean up! I think they get conditioned to avoid the rattle after a while. Beyond that 2.8 and 3.3 Keitech either underspin or on a 1/8 jighead. Last but not least a Shad Rap in Helsinki Shad color. Find the shad, match the hatch, and get ready for fun!

This. Except I don’t start with the lipless. I go straight to the blade bait. The Damiki Vault or Megabass Vibration X. But I’m targeting mostly smallmouth in western North Carolina in 50 feet of water. Catch at least a 15 pound bag every weekend. Plus, you get some bycatch that goes straight in the live well and onto the dinner table: mondo yellow perch and walleye!

I throw a 2.8 and kind of fish it like I'm tight lining, just a slow fall, it catches them!! Only issue I have is those keitechs are usually good for one fish and you gotta put on a new one! Wish they were a little tougher

These days Keitech works best either on the fall or dead stick.... especially the latter...cast it out, let it hit bottom, do nothing, tap, set hook! Chuck and wind just doesn't get me many bites anymore. Guess bass have seen 3" Fat Impacts swimming past them too many times at this point 😂

We have the same situation in Maryland, and I feel your pain. On the first the water was cold and very murky, but I did get fish from the bank on the Ned: "yoga pants" and junebug TRDs both got bites. Nothing big, but at least I wasn't skunked to start the year.

I fished like 6x in the last 2 weeks. The bite is super tough, still trying to put out content. This channel will always be about fishing, and I try to post more straight fishing videos than anything else. That being said, I have to uphold my end of sponsorship from anglers choice. It's not even that it's required, it's that I want to. You see this boat I get to fish out of!? I love it.
