I am Taiwanese, and the videos from CiaLiu seem to be in Taiwan, where we also speak mandarin. The videos seem to show a few street signs and they are all in traditional Chinese characters, in China they use simplified. the roads and scenery seem very familiar to me as well, since that is the scenery I grew up with. There is even another one of his videos that have the title 「台三」 which is referring to one of the highways in Taiwan. While I myself speak mandarin as my native tongue, it is a bit hard to make out what the woman is saying, however I will note that she sounds a young child to me, especially from the way she is speaking. What I can hear and make out is "No, no. Just take me to the hospital first. It (possibly referring to a wound) became like this because you kept putting pressure on it." At least two other sentences are spoken after this that I can't quite make out. Based on this guy's channel I think this just a recording of the aftermath of a traffic accident. It's important to note that the verb for "applying pressure/squishing something" is the same as "to run over something" depending on the context. The uploader could have just wanted to mock this woman because he probably saw her as over-reacting, hence the format of the video. Which is very in line "Taiwanese bro" humour. She does however, sound like she is speaking a child, especially in the way she says "hurt hurt" kind of how a kid would say "owchie". Either he thought it was funny that she reverted to a child after the accident, or she may have been an actual child. It is hard to tell due to our voices being softer than most western adults.

Maybe the "humorous" vein could come from the fact that the woman was faking it? Like one of those people who throw themselves in front of a car hoping to get some insurance money or something, but they do it in such a lame way that the obvious bad acting becomes a cringey funny type of situation, you know?
@eshen

10:10 So I went to cialiu's channel and watched their videos. From what I can tell, the other videos were filmed in Taoyuan and the titles suggest reckless driving (likely accusing the car that cut in front of the author). As for the "produce" video in question, the first few frames give it a title of "Wailing -- Bring me to the hospital first". While the lady is a bit hard to understand between the sobs, she definitely is speaking Mandarin Chinese, with a Taiwanese accent. A few phrases I can make out are "no, don't touch him/her/it", "you bring me to the hospital first" and "it is because you ran him/her/it/me over". So if I had to guess, the implication is that the lady's child or pet (and possibly herself as well) was run over by a vehicle in a car accident. It is anyone's guess as to whether the author of the video was involved in the accident, or if they just happened upon the scene, but... Nope, definitely nothing exotic here.

I’m a sound designer and music producer. The music in the menu of the “scene it” game seems to be giving a tone of URGENCY like as if the game is waiting for you (or something/someone to do something) from the way the percussive sounds are being played. You maybe also sometimes hear “tik tok tik tok” like a clock. As if to remind the listeners that time is of importance or is counting down to something. This can create a sense of unease, especially if there’s no clear visuals for context. Like it’s just counting down, insisting you to do something or to ready yourself for what’s to come.
@ruskerdax5547

I've also done sound design and audio engineering. I agree with the sense of "urgency" it conveys switching between scales, changing styles, and from the clock ticking. I still don't think this explains so many comments along the lines of "I'm TERRIFIED" though, that is very strange. It's gotta be some MKULTRA activation sound. Just kidding. Maybe.
@5tyxz
2 жыл бұрын
yeah i think that sounds quite accurate. id say theres also some element of chaos in how random the melody and rhythm gets, along with the lack of context on why its like that i guess, that might bring a sense of confusion. pairing this with whatever youve provided, such as urgency and limited time, i assume there could be a sense of frustration and overwhelming stress formed within the listener, and if theyre a kid, there may be a chance they can go into a state of emotional breakdown. its still quite a peculiar case to me though, because of the sheer amount of psychological influence this relatively normal tune seems to have on people. (im not a trained expert on this sort of thing unlike the other two before me but i thought why not share my ideas)

The first one: the way the person is moving reminds me of the way trauma victims move. Banging ones self against the wall, rocking back and forth, slapping the floor, pulling the hair, wiggling and rotating, hitting ones self with the arms. These sort of zombie-like mindless movements are also seen in animals who are suffering, like tigers pacing, or zoo animals hitting themselves or biting themselves. I have a solid explanation for the menu music. It's in the Lydian mode, the major key with a raised fourth. In the right context it can sound more uplifting than major (i.e Mario Galaxy, Jurassic Park) but it can also be unsettling. Too bright, suspiciously bright. Another example is one of the melodies in "When He Died" by Lemon Demon. So there you go, a solid, non esoteric explanation. I saw someone saying it was "Dissonant"... no, sorry. In fact it's far from it. It's simply in Lydian which sounds slightly more dissonant than major. EDIT: the lemon demon people have arrived

I think that this might be referring to a mother 'producing' a child. Its similar to the liminal spaces. Usually they're happy fun looking places but, out of context it seems sad and empty. That's the vibe I get from the end credits theme, the whole episode is a fun time (or depending on the season, maybe not) but then everyone goes home, and eventually the audio and video fade out to blackness. There's a sort of dread to it, eventually the series is going to end, and we're all going to hear the credits music one last time. Once the song ends, there's nothing after it. It's over, all our friends are gone and they are not coming back. sorry i got dark

Some thoughts on the menu music: I’m drawing on personal experience playing other games, but having grown up in a very high-stress household, something as simple as trying to play a game together as a family would often divulge into people getting overly emotional and bickering. I can’t think of certain pieces or media from my childhood without feeling bad or sad because of this, so maybe the people who were traumatized by the music may have had a family/friend gaming session with the game go horribly awry, and now they cannot think of the menu music without subconsciously remembering the bad memories.

I thought the music from the Scene It game was quite groovy, but being reminded that DVD games like that used to be common brought back traumatic memories of a High School Musical DVD game that we had. One of the questions the game would give you would be to name the character that appears on the screen, except their faces had been removed, leaving an almost slender-man resemblance. as a kid, i was definitely unsettled by the scene it music. i remember when i was at a friend's house, it was late at night, and she had left the room to go to the bathroom. i sat in an empty living room with the scene it menu open and i remember feeling really freaked out. i think it depends on age and environment. alone at night with the lights dimmed, yes, it's a little spooky, but in a room full of people you're playing the game with, it doesn't sound weird. edit: mind you, i am 22 years old n alone in my room late at night writing this comment and it is definitely very... weird. like it's more of a bop now than it used to be, but it's like im waiting for something to happen suddenly, but it never comes. i can understand possibly that it's the dissonance within the music. maybe it's the trauma. who knows

For the feelings of the song, it sounds like a typical kid friendly song, more or less, but at one point it did seem a bit like a marching boot camp song which was interesting. Idk if it has the same theme to something else more diabolical, just sounded like a mix of instruments to make a child-friendly jam. Edit: As to how I felt mostly neutral, somewhat happy at different parts. Skeptical/intrigued at some parts (marching drums), but that may be because of watching the rest of the content before the experiment.

About the SceneIt music, this is the first time I heard it and at surface level it does feel like another one of those jaunty, and let's just say child-friendly music. But I definitely feel that there's something off about the way it sounds. Like... I can't really describe it easily with words, but imagine an intact egg shell with nothing in it. The instruments sounds like it's trying to be a layer of _something_ and yet there isn't anything to be layered on. (EDIT: what I was trying to say is, the music sounds *hollow.*) It's also got this off-tempo feel to it, and overall it somehow tries _too_ hard to sound happy. For Goose’s weird experiment: I feel like this song was made by some intern who lied during a meeting and said, “yeah, I can make the music.” I also kinda feel nostalgic for it, because I swear I played that version of Seen It once. After watching the segment: I do kinda remember being scared of that game because I usually hated things having to do with the Tv. It is a really off tempo and I’m pretty sure it is in some weird time signature (something like 3/4 or 6/8 instead of the usual 4/4.) children don’t usually like songs that are random and that change a lot. It has a lot of unnatural and strange sounds that just pop out of nowhere.

As someone who was one a kid scared of the dumbest things, I think I might know (or at least have an idea) of why kids were scared of that song. I think it might have something to do with the background. More specifically, the color choice of the background and the complete blackness behind the purple micky heads. When you played the clip, I wasn't really paying attention to the screen since I played this video while doing dishes. I actually really liked it, then looked at my phone screen and audibly went "Oh.". At first I thought the color choice felt out of place for something of the Disney property, since they usually use a warmer color palette for these kinds of things. But once I thought about it, I realized it exactly what it was. The lack of vocals and the complete black background. The combination of no vocals plus the ominous background might create a since of loneliness, especially for a child.

i might add that from a musical perspective, the melody starts with F-G-A-F-B-C, further on transposed to Bb-C-D-Bb-E-F. Both F-B and Bb-F are tritones (augmented fourths), a pretty dissonant interval to use flat out melodically like that. It was generally avoided back in medieval music. Tho it makes sense in theory the way it's applied, it sounds somewhat unresolved the way it holds the B in the strong beat (thus emphasising the augmented fourth) and the C (which is supposed to be the resolution) is in the weak beat. This might not mean nothing but a very quick fix to the melody would be using the F-B (vii° chord for C major) as a secondary dominant (meaning you're in a tonality and use another tonality's dominant to emphasise the original tonality's dominant), so in this case the first note is F, you accept you're in F major, use the B as a dominant to C, which can then be a dominant to F so, in practise: TLDR - put the first note of the initial melody after the last note so there's a satisfying resolution.

So for the "Scene It" music, my first thoughts were just "Dissonance", because well, it's dissonant. It's the juxtaposition of the cheery and happy beat/melody with the misplaced dissonant chords is what probably unnerves or scares people. It's a very "unnatural" and harsh sound that doesn't match with the overall vibe of the song. Also most kids probably aren't listening to music that uses dissonance since it isn't something that kid's or family media would normally use, therefore it would sound "scary" to a kid. idk if I'm using dissonant in the proper way musically speaking but hey, that's what came to mind.

Here's why I found it so unnerving: At the time my family and I played it, I was very young and had never watched the nightmare before Christmas. I didn't even know what it was. And this game included clips and still frames from the film without any context, which frightened me. If I'm not mistaken, this song and a few others like it would play while the timer counted down before revealing the correct answer and introducing the next question. During the countdown, I would dread having to see the next clip/image, out of fear it would be from the nightmare before Christmas, or some other movie I found scary.

"Take me to the hospital first!" and other speeches are basically just her crying. As for the original channel's other videos, they are just recordings of the person's own experiences of other bad drivers he encountered on the road. The 惡意逼車 means "tailgating on purpose" So, according to those other videos, I suppose this "produce" is more like a voice recording of a car accident, the sound of traffics though little but still can be heard in the background, I think it's an accident happened late at night. The speculations I made are purely based on the audio, I don't really know why this person made a video like this, hope this helps.

It has this sort of awkward silence to it. And those mickey siliottes? They're rendered so dark and dim it's like something will jump out from the spaces in between. But man I love harmless childhood scares like these. Similar to something like reboot the cartoon I guess. It's most likely the super dark colours and really somehow passive aggressive music. From a music theory standpoint, even though I don't find the Scene-It music creepy, I think the reason so many kids did was because of how empty it sounds. There's no clear prevailing melody and it really seems that only 1-2 instruments play at a time intermittently in small bursts especially segments of purely percussion. There's no consistency, it isn't the grand and full music that is usually associated with Disney. Chances are it left kids looking for more in the song and their imaginations carried out the rest.

In a pitch black room with only you and the tv in it. As a kid, it freaks you the fuck out. This is what causes my fear of the dark and extreme amounts of silence actually. Woof, hearing the Disney Scene It music again after so long hit me with the weirdest feeling. I too can confirm that the game left me with a sense of unease as a kid. This particular menu song wasn't really too bad, what got to me was the countdown music they'd play that was accompanied by that classic movie spinner with the numbers counting down. I personally have always been creeped out by DVD menus since I was little. Something about the looping music that will abruptly cut off when you make a selection, a brief silence, and then quickly snapping to a new page with new looping music just always felt unsettling. I feel like with the Disney game in particular, the fact that the game didn't really have a cartoon host or anything and entirely relied on how you were playing on your board game felt a little odd. It was like having this ominous overly-happy music pop in and out on your tv in the background while you tried to play a regular board game. Again it's hard to explain, but I almost relate it to the uncanny valley but with technology. VHS tapes weren't ever interactive, and digital stuff now loads instantly and is easily adjustable and interactable with. DVDs were kind of that middle ground where they really wanted to test the bells and whistles of the new technology before it could be truly refined, so the stilted menu interactions and the music cutting in and out can be off-putting to some. I'd compare it to that of early cheap animatronics, where the tech couldn't replicate real interaction, leaving some people feeling a sense of unease, especially when the artificial friendliness is cranked up to a 10.

I won't lie, the menu theme for Disney Scene-It was kind of a blast from the past for me. I remember playing this game quite a bit with my parents and grandparents over a decade ago. I believe I got it as a Christmas gift mostly due to how into the original version of the game I was, and the fact that my parents felt the original was too inappropriate for me at the time. I think I was like, 9 or 10 at the time so they were right to an extent. I never felt fear from the menu song that I can recall (the original Scene-It themes were more unnerving to me, iirc), but upon rehearing this theme, I do see how some may have found it scary or unnerving as children. I hadn't thought about Disney Scene-It in so long, so it was a bit of a surprise to see it be talked about all these years later.

I always had a weird fear of the Disney Scene-It game, or any DVD/Board game for that matter. Yes, I owned Disney Scene it as a kid, and the music was unsettling. I owned other DVD/Board games and they all unsettled me. I like to think it was the pause in between answering questions, the dead silence that followed after, it was normally just me playing them with my parents as a kid, and sometimes they'd step out for a smoke or whatever, and I'd just play random questions while I waited, and just being by myself, alone, in the living room, at night, dead silence...it unnerved me. If you want an unsettling song from a DVD-ROM game, do the Lady and the Tramp board game. The song that played before questions traumatized me.

If jarring silence is followed after then that would make sense alongside the described atmosphere. I’ve definitely felt that playing alone at night after all my friends left the Xbox party as a kid. The feeling of being alone in pure darkness minus the buzzing light of the TV. That made sense.

I kind of liked the "Scene It" song. I honestly love cheap sounding MIDI music like that. There is something endearing about it. Those people that had issue with it are probably leaving out the part how playing "Disney Scene It" with their family just so happened to end in a screaming argument where Mom and Dad decided on getting a divorce.

the song sounds weirdly nostalgic i think the reason it would freak out so many kids is because it's in lydian, something i've seen someone else point out lydian has an interval which is very dissonant when played against the first note of the scale (a tritone, used in a lot of music for the purpose of being dissonant), which is used quite a bit in the song when used right, lydian is mystical or very cheerful (like the simpsons theme is, which is written in lydian), but it might be just an over emphasis on the tritone that might have unnerved a lot of kids i guess? just a little guess

To me the music sounds like a bunch of intros or interludes strung together in a haphazard way. It does give me an eerie feeling because it sounds like it's never actually starting or ending. I think the way the music is composed is what creeps out most people because it gives you an unsettled feeling like a auditory version of being trapped and not allowed to leave.

I have a theory about the song, the song itself is really random, you can hear the theme switches from 14:52 to 15:14 to 15:21 to 15:34 to 15:44 . Maybe the switches were too overwhelming for a kid to listen to, I can imagine myself as a kid to be unsettled by the song

I was always freaked out by the scene it dvds in general. It was something about how it would play scenes from cartoons i liked (i had the nickelodeon one) followed by immediate silence and a rapid timer. I think it was the silence that was so scary - your family wouldn't exactly be talking because you know, there's a game, and meanwhile everyone in the house is in one room. Combine this with being a game night and so dark everywhere else and it left me with tension that at the time I felt as just fear. The song itself though is fine lol i felt no emotion to it.

I do animation and sometimes on random layers I will just. Stop doing the animation to doodle something or other, and sometimes that doodling turns into something more extensive. Usually afterwards I just turn off that layer’s opacity so no one sees it and continue. I think a lot of artists sometimes do this, and I wouldn’t be surprise if the sonic thing was the result of the same behaviour.

From what I can hear from the 'Produce' video, the woman can be heard saying 'I don't want it/to', something along the lines of something being pressed on and 'don't carry him/her'? It's a bit mumbled due to her crying but either way, it definitely sounds like she's in a pretty precarious position.

The song definitely sounds just straight happy and simple, but I do feel like there’s a “somethings about to happen” kind of quality to it. I don’t know music so I can’t explain what it is that makes it sound that way, but I think it’s the main jingle that repeats is what makes it feel like something is gonna show up and scare you. If I heard this as a kid I would definitely be unsettled. Like you’re ready to press the play button as fast as possible just to get away from the screen. It’s reminds me of a Smokey the bear commercial that I was terrified of. One with dancing matchsticks. The music was all jingly, and then it ended with the Smokey the bear face slowly fading in. So that’s the same feeling I get with this song

as a kid, a lot of totally innocuous stuff would creep me out. the stuff itself was innocent enough, but the common thread is that to me it felt weirdly liminal. like playing video games alone in the living room at night. stuff like that. so maybe the people scared of that disney music had a similar experience? the best comparison i can think of is how a lot of people talk about being creeped out by minecraft as a kid.

While this particular dvd music isn’t “creepy” to me, I feel like it does have the same qualities as other dvd menu music throughout the 2000s I DID find creepy. It’s hollow, void of true emotion, and probably repeats over and over. The 2000s I was a teenager/ early adult, and used to fall asleep all the time watching a movie, and the dvd menu music would eventually play over and over until it seeped into my dreams and woke me up. While I can’t think of titles right this second off the top of my head, I DO remember during that time period that I thought it was crazy how often I would find a dvd with just flat out weird music that got weirder as it repeated itself. I also remember thinking that DVD production companies were purposefully doing this for some reason, but by that point the DVD/Blu Ray industry was taken over by streaming services, so the issue never came up again. Instead of maybe focusing on this particular DVD’s menu music, maybe just dig around for creepy dvd music in general and see what crops up. I firmly believe that this is not an outlier.

I cite the scene it menus in particular as really creepy, the atmosphere and everything about it scare me. I've never played Disney Scene It and and ive had limited interactions with DVD menus, at least not since my childhood as an early millennial and I really agree with this sentiment. Hearing the music made me really anxious and uncomfortable as it kept playing. The best theory I can think of is that with something like video game menu music for example that's something that's going to be needed and understood as part of the entire game creation and the music is made specifically for that component of the game from the start where as DVD menu music is probably gonna be an after thought so instead of buying the rights to a random song for the DVD release potentially years after the original movie was made a simple looping track would've been made for the menu in most cases. It kind of brings to mind to me the same feeling as a phone ringing but nobody answering it. This is also probably why I reacted this way, as the last time i heard a menu screen song that played for this long everyone would jump for the remote to turn off the annoying low-effort looping song lol I guess to hear it just left the residual anticipation for the audio to change when it never does.

Fun fact for the people who are too lazy to do it themselves: the other cialiu motorcycle videos are called something like malicious driving, speed test, speed, GTR1400 vs touring car...sounds like the person was up to no good Also, if you watch the produce video for youself, there's an intro reel or something like that, and it has some Chinese words. At first I thought it's just some stuff you must have if you don't pay for premium or something. But the title can be translated to "howling" (like she's being mocked) and the description below to something like "you take me to the hospital first". The image distorts more as the video goes on. I feel like this was purposefully made to be disturbing, wether it was for a joke or something worse, since all the videos got uploaded really close to one another, and none were uploaded ever since. Edit: since this is most likely a traffic accident, and considering the malicious nature of the video, I have a theory. I don't know how possible this is, but it's the best thing I could come up with. Maybe the driver somehow hit a woman (or maybe someone who was with a woman) with their stupid motorcycle while trying to film another video, hurting both the woman (or as I said, someone else) and themselves, but not causing any lethal damage. Perhaps the woman's arm was broken, something like that. She demanded the driver to take her to the hospital. The driver got very salty and wanted to humiliate the woman in some way, making a video titled "Howling" (or in this context "Wailing"). The description might have been a nicer version of "Take you to the hospital? Bitch you take me to the hospital first!"

Tbh i think so too. It makes much more sense than the weird pregnancy stretch. The channel does not look like an ARG at all, putting a weird english word that can be barely related to pregnancy (and is also what an editing program uses to name videos) as a title for a video where the sound doesn't resemble a hospital at all doesn't make sense. A traffic accident by some cocky asshole seems more plausible

Logophobia and unintentional vhs induced fear has always been fascinating to me. As a scared kid of the cleaning vhs we owned particularily I can relate to that disney thing. I feel like most of the horror of these early 3D type screens was just the unnatural lighting and the uncannyness of the scenes itself with it looping something nonesensical or something that‘s just blank. Plus the thing that every DVD menu also had the black voids. Be it donkey kong game over screens or other Video menus. And I feel like a lot of this works like those scary pics of playgrounds at night. It‘s a happy children‘s space but drenched in darkness so severely that it feels like we‘re seeing that content in a context where we aren‘t supposed to be seeing it. Aka at night when it‘s tucked away. The menu waiting to be shut off or the game/video to be played. Just like with liminal spaces, if you stare at transitory spaces like those in a dark room alone at night like many of us would as kids when mom or dad left us sleeping on the couch while our favorite movie played only to eventually end and leaving us with the lingering, uncanny empty menu that just feels lifeless and like it shouldn‘t be seen in the first place. But yeah it‘s hard to pinpoint. But i‘d guess it‘s probably some kind of tie to that uncanny valley thing as well as creepy nostalgia, childhood context and also early abstract 90‘s to 2000‘s 3D with black voids and endless spaces of nothingness with calm omynous music just being vague and mysterious enough to either cause enjoyment or fear depending on what your brain is more likely to latch onto.

I think the main menu is more uncanny than it is scary. I think where most of the fear comes from is that slow and dark colored background that has just pure darkness in the very very back while the rest of it fades into shadows. Mixed with the jolly and adventurous music, it just feels uncanny, like a strange oxymoron. Think of it: look at the normal menu with its music and then think of the same music but with a brighter and happier looking background, like a view of the Disney world castle with bright skies and flowers surrounding a path leading to it.

The main menu theme is very catchy. It starts off a bit creepy. It's just the high pitched bell things. But them we introduce what seem to be bongos which give a more upbeat vibe to it. As it goes on the bells give me the vibes of the bell from the Nut cracker while the bongos slowly give off a tropical vibe as it goes on which is very apparent in the end.

When listening to the song...it just feels like (or sounds like) there's SO MUCH going on. One thing that comes to mind is when you're a kid, a lot of things in general seem to be running at a faster speed for their lives than when you're an adult. The music doesn't seem too bad a first glance, but if you really listen to it, it can get so chaotic with all the different sounds and instruments playing. You may even argue there isn't really much of a rhythm to the entire thing. Now, imagine being a kid and listening to it at a faster pace. It can get really overbearing, and yes, even scary for a child to hear and may never want to hear again. ...That's just my thoughts.
