I like the smaller venues for the start of this league. Makes it easier to have a full crowd and puts the fans closer to the action. Make the games a loud, soldout, fun time rather than presumably making it a quieter, emptier experience in a larger arena.

@@rossrobertson674 Right, most stadiums/arenas/parks/etc. in most sports can tarp/close off sections when applicable. I'm been to plenty of really bad Padres teams' games in giant Qualcomm where like 30k+ seats are tarped off. lmao All the seats sold are closer to the action but It's still a half-empty venue. I'm saying that having the games in smaller places eliminates that all together. Personally, given the same crowd size, I'd rather watch a game in a packed and more intimate venue that a larger one with half empty seats or whatever. That's just my personal preference.

What's the skill level at for this league? Not bashing. Just a genuine question out of curiosity. Looks really slow on youtube, but I feel like NHL looks faster in person too. Can the best in the PWHL compete with like mid or low level NHL?
@pyRoy6
5 ай бұрын
Raw speed might not be too far off. Kendall Coyne Schofield was in the NHL fastest skater competition for fun, didn't finish last, and was within a second of McDavid. I think the reason it looks slower is a combination of the teams' systems not quite being locked-in, players being smaller, and some of the camera work, angles, etc. Plus we all have some biases.
@nicorobin5978
5 ай бұрын
Didn't mean just pure skating speed. Passing/shooting/etc. all looks pretty slow. Just curious what the skill level is at since I know nothing about it. I don't think you can compare it to the men's version. It's completely different. Skill level wise, no, they won't be as good as mid level or even the least skilled NHL players. If a player was good enough, she would go for the NHL rather than this league and get paid many times more. Not close to AHL level either, which in the larger picture is still a very high level of play. You take this league for what it is. The games can still be fun to watch. Many of us watch junior, AHL, college etc even though those leagues aren't the best of the best. The games are still fun. Should be the same with this league.
