Jewlia Conley The stylist needs to be fired. She sewed in the weave too tightly then, after being told about her own negligence, didn’t offer an apology or compensation, she instead tried to blame her client for “leaving the weave in for too long.” Fun fact, you can leave your weave in for a pretty long while. It may cause tension alopecia. It may cause matting. It should not ever cause your hair to fall out and your follicles to combine into one unified follicle on the back of your head.

She probably wasn’t a licensed stylist working for a company so it may be hard to get a suit on her. That’s the thing about the black/African hair community. We’re only just now learning how to care for our hair and it will probably take another decade before natural hair care and styling is part of mainstream cosmetology. It’s sucks but it’s safer for people to do there own hair, keep it natural in color, texture, and length until kinky hair becomes part of the “norm”.

My cosmetology teacher told us a horror she had when a client had their hair braided too tight. The woman had gone back twice to the person who braided it to say it was painful and the woman just told her she had a sensitive scalp and the braids were fine. But the woman went to my professor to get them taken out because of the pain. My professor said that as she started taking the braids out she saw her scalp was bleeding and infected so she sent her to the hospital. The womans entire scalp was infected and they had to basically surgically remove all her hair that left her with no scalp. The womans hair never grew back and she was left with a scalp that looked like healed burn scars.

just an fyi to any girl getting a sew in weave, or just getting you're hair braided in general weither you are black, white or whatever, (esp to white girls, since this might not be as common knowledge as it is to black girls) if someone braids youre hair it should not hurt at all, if your are in any type of pain, you need to tell your hair dresser right then and there. Some hair dressers will claim "this will make your braids last longer, because of the grip", girl no if your hair gets braided to tight, it will fall out, and you will go bald. If your hair dresser does not loosen her grip, or if she tries to justify the pain you are in, you need to get up, take your money and leave.

I feel like a little bit of pain is definitely guaranteed when getting braids, sew ins or cornrows. I mean the hair stylist has to make it tight enough so that the weave doesn't fall out the minute you try flipping your hair but at the same time not too tight. I get braids every winter as a protective style for my natural hair and the first couple days the braids hurt a little but after like 3-4 days I was fine.

girlgreenivy I agree. I think with a lot of women of color choosing to go natural there has been some movement towards the development of more healthy products for our hair texture. I stopped relaxing because I developed thyroid cancer at a very young age(20) and I'm convinced the prolonged use of relaxers contributed to it(I had my hair relaxed at 9 and I didn t stop relaxing my hair until i was well into my 20s) and while my hair was long and healthy, after having my thyroid removed my hormone levels didn t stabilize on the medication. When I stopped relaxing my hair, my hormone levels where normal. I don't have any scientific evidence but I know how much better my body felt afterward. And if it was doing that after I had my thyroid removed I can only imagine what it was doing when I had it.

Report them, they violated way too many safety&health codes and deserve to have their license taken away. I work at a hair salon as an apprentice and luckily both the current stylists have made sure to widen their range of customers and the range of hair types they can work on because both of them hate it when people don’t get what they deserve from ‘qualified’ professionals. The elder, more experienced stylist actually has mixed race children with Afro hair and when her daughter decided that she wanted to try a new salon so she wasn’t relying on her mom her hair got ruined- she has a bald spot on her right side that hair still struggles to grow on. She’s stuck with certain styles to hide it. A weird tip I’ve been told by a customer when looking for new salons is find their Facebook page, look at who’s reviewed, recommended or liked it and look at the profile pictures of the people and see if they have a wide range of ethnicities in their clientele(that have given good reviews etc.). A client told me that’s what she did to find the salon I’m training at and that it was the best thing she could’ve done. Hope this is helpful advice for those struggling to find a stylist that isn’t all talk and won’t wreck their hair

So many black women unfortunately have hair and scalp damage, in many cases permanent, because there's still not enough information in the community. We aren't usually taught how to care for our hair and scalps like so many nonblack women are from birth. So many of us grew up with high heat and harsh chemicals on our heads, way-too-tight styles, fake hair or other people's hair put on top of our own, it's really messed up.
@vg7735
6 жыл бұрын
Sounds messed up. People should embrace their natural hair more. I use semi-permanent hair dye but wouldn't wear tight braids, weaves or wigs. It's easy for me to talk as I have easy maintenance straight hair and I've heard afro hair is hard to take care of.
@DarkLadyJade
6 жыл бұрын
Vanessa G Afro hair isn't more difficult, black people just aren't taught how to care for our hair from birth, we're instead taught to hate it and see it as a challenge to overcome. Comments like yours illustrate perfectly the stigma attached to afro hair. How can black people embrace their hair when everyone else reaffirms the belief that the hair is a problem just for existing?
@pastelpepe
6 жыл бұрын
Vanessa G Easy for you to say when you aren’t part of the black community and your hair lacks curls. We wear braids and sew ins as protective styles for our natural hair because our natural hair needs protection. It’s really easy for you to say when your hair is pin straight.

91clasSick I know right! I’m training to be a stylist and whenever someone is my model for an assessment or just a client I always say ‘don’t be scared that I’m going to be upset if you hate it or if your scalp is hurting- you’re the important one here and it’s vital you’re happy with your look’ because the amount of times I personally have hated what someone’s done but said I liked it because they were gonna whine if I didn’t is ridiculous. Also I’ve had dye cause an allergic reaction on my scalp and honestly PLEASE TELL SOMEONE IF IT HURTS because your health is more important than how your hair looks. If stylists aren’t going to bother putting in extra effort to please customers and make them look their best then they shouldn’t be stylists.

A lot of "ancient queens" actually weren't all that "beautiful".. For example cleopatra was nothing like she has been portrayed - she has been portrayed by MEN as being ridiculously beautiful to severely down play her political and intellectual intelligence and power- basically men have written history about her to imply she only ever had power bc she was so beautiful that her beauty seduced the men and then those men gave her her power- which is far from true (she had a lot of power bc of her intellect and extreme fortune and had she not politically made ridiculously smart moves and combined with the Romans, the Romans wouldn't have had their reign of domination last). It has been proven via ancient coins that many would consider her "ugly" today ... She was a woman who fought against discrimination to claim the throne as a woman in a mans position... Image doing all that she did without favor of the people (who of course eventually got behind her bc she was an amazing leader who cared about her people)

I've been learning a lot about female hair loss as I've lost a lot of weight and as a consequence I have lost about 50% of my hair. Not in patches, just all over. Of course a lot of the information is for traction alopecia, not my case but I read it all because someone might have some tips that could help me out! From what I've read and seen, your decision is the best option for you. Do anything to save your hair! I am just lucky that I've just lost a lot of volume...A lot lol, All the best to you!

Being bald, as a woman, is the most freeing and satisfying thing ever. It gives you a sense of empowerment because you are going against the societal standards of what makes a woman beautiful, her hair. I have shaved my head, for long periods of time, 3 times in my life and I always do it when I am feeling depressed or anxious. It honestly helps my mood so much and make me feel like I am so powerful. I would honestly suggest it to anyone who is going through a hard time in their personal life and is struggling with depression or just feeling low about themselves.

Brandi Munguia 100% agree with what you said! I’ve had my head shaved numerous times, and the liberation + confidence it brought was unbelievable! The first time I did it was when I felt truly beautiful for the first time in my life. Although I’m growing my hair out now since I’ve grown bored and am in a constant state of self-change, it will most likely be my favorite hairstyle (or lack of) I’ve ever had :)

Whatever. I don't feel like my hair defines me as a woman as it is, but you whatever works for you to stick it to the man.

She is so beautiful bald, hair would just get in the way of that gorgeous bone structure.

Okay so this first girl is SO BEAUTIFUL and I am ASTOUNDED by her strength and integrity, I am in tears. If that happened to me I would be so devastated and I don’t even know what I would do. My hair is my life (yeah, I’m that person) and to have something that damaging happen to my scalp would DESTROY my confidence and sense of self worth. What an incredible lady. Thank you for sharing your story and being so amazing about it.

I'm just confused as to why she saw the pink was too dark while she was mixing it....but still put it on and was surprised to see it was dark in the end...???? I mean, it didn't look bad...but it's not like she didn't see it coming...
