Stu, I’ve been following your instruction for a while now, and it’s made a big difference in my game! Since switching to a stronger grip and improving my movement, I’ve seen significant improvement. This is fantastic-it really helps explain how the pressure on the club allows it to swing more naturally. Thanks for breaking it down so clearly!

I’ve been watching Stu for about a year or so now and have had a few video lessons. His coaching has had a huge impact on my golf game. I’ve been golfing since 2016 and have always been a 120’s 110’s golfer (actually counting true stokes and penalties, there’s usually a lot of penalties lol) been watching KZitem golf and thinking I’ve found the secret that will unlock my game for awhile, typically one tip counteracts another, just a mess of trying to apply different tips from one guy to the next. Well I’ve only been watching Stu for a year and I’ve never been more confident in my swing, even broke 100 this summer! Great content, love what you’re at, keep it up man!

This video along with the one on forearm rotation has changed my entire swing. I used to have a small flip right before impact and have had one instructor after another give me one drill after another to no affect. Since working on these two things my flip is almost gone, I just need more reps to get it committed to muscle memory, but it is a total game changer.

Thank you Stu for this crystal clear explanation about the difference of arc between the handle and the head of the club. Crucial, as you say... I understand much better why, trying to ... erm garbage... get a so called straight path, I always more or so throw my handle forward. Giving me poor strikes, losing distance, plus sweat in my back and jaws clenched. I think, in my concern, there is a huge misunderstanding with the handle path, coming from : "Keep your hands before the ball at impact !!!" . Which breaks the true nature of the handle's arc. And push me to also raise the handle at impact. Since some weeks I follow your videos, I got much better results when lowering the handle. But in this video I now understand fully why I should have to do it in the good way. Thank you thank you again ! 🙏

Stu, This is why if you watch a pro from the rear and place a pencil parallel to and just above the shaft line at address and note the position of their hands, at impact you will never see their hands pass above your pencil. Whereas with poor ball strikers you will always see their hands above the pencil through the strike

Awesome video Stu. Love the explanation and detailed discussion. I am at a loss as to why some folks don’t get this. I just got back from the range and tried this out. Literally every aspect of my ball striking was better. To be fair, my grip, setup, posture, and takeaway were already good. Keeping the hands on the inside circle was an awesome feeling. The fact that you can swing inside-out while moving the hands along the inside circle was mind blowing but it works! Keep up the good work and thank you for all you do. Hi Stuart, I have definitely found my ball-striking improves when I think about keeping the handle lower through impact although the feeling is still a long way from being ingrained in my swing. To some extent that is due to not playing much golf over the past year for various reasons, so its one of the things I have to consciously think about. However, 2 things come to mind; 1) how does the handle height at impact compare with handle height at address 2) It would be interesting to hear you talking about Bryson's swing (reminds me a bit of Moe Norman) where the handle height looks much higher at address and through the swing, and why that works for him. Thanks for posting this.
@GoodGolfCoaching

Hey John, lovely to hear from you and I hope the lack of golf improves in the coming months. Handle height will be seldom back to the same height at impact even though thats the goal. Regards to Bryson's swing, I aim to do a lot of swing analysis of the best players in the world. So much in the planning and at the moment, I am spinning a lot of plates. Thanks for your patience and questons! Best wishes Stu

I learned golf in my early 30s while working as a printing plant production manager, a job that requires knowledge of material science and process control. For that reason I approached golf the same way, trying to understand the underlying and physics, not unlike Homer Kelley who took up golf at the same age. One of the things was aware of was how counter-intuitive some aspects of physics are and in golf it is the relationship between increasing the velocity of mass which has an exponential effect on the increase of kinetic energy. Golf instruction tends to focus the most on the mass on the end of the club shaft but it realized the path the club head mass follows in the downswing, where the force vector of the club head points during it, is influenced by the movement of the entire body mass towards the target with the lateral shifting of hips towards target and how the mass of the lead arm swings down and the gets released forward in the post impact extension. I realized that if I simply focused on the path of the lead arm mass it would very predictably and consistently drag the club head mass through the ball and where my hands wound up in 3D space relative to my feet and center of rotation - the finish extension waypoint - would predict the direction the ball would release off the face. The way golf should be taught to beginners is to first statically pose them in a “tour pro” impact position where the spine is side-bent to the extent the length of torso and flexibility allows, with back heel just barely off the ground preventing premature release of the hip beyond 45° open which is as far as they can open if the back foot is kept down during the downswing. That after all is the goal of the exercise isn’t it? I’ve actually done that with a few noobs I’ve taught, having them pose statically like then then go to the top of backswing position and back down to that ‘pro impact position’ 3-4 times to ‘groove’ the feel. I have them try to hit the same spot 3x in a row with the club then on the fourth attempt put a ball down a 1/2” behind where they’ve been hitting the ground and the results are nothing short of amazing as is their reaction, a big smile and comment along the lines of ‘I had no idea the swing was supposed to work like that.’ Their ball flight changes from chronic open face, hand too far ahead, slice to hooks until they are taught how to extend both arms in the finish and that’s were the idea of swinging the hands to a ‘waypoint’ relative to stance line becomes a useful teaching aid. Most beginners have balance problems in the finish and I developed a simple cure for that. I have them hold the finish extension - club and arms pulled out straight left of target line-then pull on the club head. The first 2-4x always pull them off their feet. Why? Their brains are not accustomed to the club extending and pulling in that direction. But after 2-4x the part of the primitive brain that keeps us upright without any conscious thought kicks in and adjusts its stored ‘programming’ and they start automatically reacting to the pull by bracing the front leg and ‘counter-falling’ with upper body mass more than they were before and the tendency to hook that results from the club puling a golfer off balance rotationally in the finish disappears and their hook misses become nice controlled draws - what you’d expect if copying a tour pro’s swing, no? It takes about 30 min max. why golf professionals who made their living teaching golf in twenty easy lessons @ $100 per hour don’t teach than way 😮

Maybe my favorite video of yours to date! Love the box drill with the handle moving down and left while the head moves up and stays pretty close to the target line. I need to work on the feeling of the weight moving to the left heel and the body holding posture or even moving a little deeper into the chest facing the ground as the handle moves left. This feeling is harder on the through swing side of the ball than on the backswing side in my experience. I love the very complete explanation. For me it is essential to know why you recommend the moves, not just how to make them.

@@GoodGolfCoaching how does one build the CH speed? Been practicing this last night (in the USA) If I turn the handle around the arc, I noticed no more pull draws, nice straight flight, and no more balloon drives. However, as straight as the irons are with this, I'm a club short. Just keep working at it until I build up speed? Should hands release somehow? I definitely am not stuck at the moment in the DS. One point you didn't mention. A person might worry that at impact, the toe of the club is slightly higher. No, it's not, because, at speed, the shaft of the club bends downwards (moment of inertia) so the club face is actually flat at impact. Perfect.

Upright swings and forearm rotation have worked fine for over 200 years ... Not only you dont need timming or harder work ... But you need no timming at all ... As long as the mass of the head is outside of the line of the shaft the centrifugal acceleration will pull that mass and line up the face one million times out of one million tries ... provided that you : - dont move the center of the swing ahead or behind the ball - in regard to the target line - grip the club the same every time and keep the wrists loose and oily ...

Stu are you basically saying that you should......keep pushing down on the handle with the meaty part of the left hand throughout all parts of the swing even through impact?

I’m not sure it can be rounded up quite like that but in a round about way, yes Sir.

I understand feel is not real. However, the low handle swing feels less powerful than my normal high handle swing. Why is that ?
@GoodGolfCoaching
2 күн бұрын
Because you a being given speed and energy in the handle due to your submissive nature over the headweight, resulting in poor strikes due to path/clubface/aoa orientation.

So do you want your club's lie to be bent more flat, or would that just be another Band-Aid ? ... thanks Boss for the content !
@GoodGolfCoaching

Hey buddy; bending a golf club 4 degrees flat would be a great training aid, as long as you don’t setup with the sole flat on the floor if that makes sense?

Holy Sh---T Batman, I'm 67 yo and been humping the ball since I was 17. Thought about probably a million cliche fixes EXCEPT this one! Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

7 degrees face left to path? Draw or big hook?

Ahhhh you chose the one shot that had a little too much bend. Knowing how to manipulate that within movement is the key my friend. Either way, sounds like you need more convincing. Hope you find it.

Great video Stu. I am definitely going to work on this. My season is almost over here in Canada however I have a small area in basement with a net and mat. So this will be something for me to work on over the winter months. Cheers✌️

Can you merge this video with "You've got to pull the handle 'in front of you'?" I know. You've been "attacked" on this a lot. I can read. But for the life of me, I still don't know how to get from "handle forward" to "handle down". I see you do it differently when you swing. You seem to admit as much. It's probably something in between. Can you show us this?
@GoodGolfCoaching

Lance, the handle track which you are referring to is one element. You’ll need other ingredients to make it work; spine angle, pelvis, low point, leg action…. There will be other ingredients you need, not just handle track. Hope that helps, but I will of course do more videos on this. Best wishes Stu

@@GoodGolfCoaching Yes. It's quite a bag of tricks. I hit the ball as well as I ever have today. But I'm not quite sure if I should try to disassociate the rotation of the hips from the torso. I think so, but maybe it's just in my mind.

The lie of your golf club is (should be) set by your impact; if the impact changes then you’re absolutely right. But no more so than you’d like to see your impact without early extension.
