Keep going, don't stop playing. When it clicks there's no feeling like it. I've been playing for about six months now and can't believe how far I've come, especially with Justin's help. Fantastic teacher, wonderful pacing in his lessons, almost like he's in the room patiently listening to all the mistakes and pushing you along.

You are a teaching God! Ten years I've been trying to learn to play the guitar and I've learnt more in the last 2 months of using your beginners book and Web vids than the previous 9.9 years. Tonight, after only 2 hours of learning the song, I recorded myself playing and singing along to This Year's Love. I'm so happy I felt compelled to leave you a message of gratitude. I honestly can't believe it. Thank you so much.

What kind of strings are you using (the type if not the make) Maybe you can do a vid comparing all the different types of acoustic strings, how to get mellow to bright with clips of the same song done with the same guitar strung with different sets of strings. 80/20 bronze, phosphor bronze, nickle, coated / uncoated. etc. Just a thought. cheers mate...

I have a question (actually questions) that may sound stupid to anyone who knows how to play guitar but I was wondering about the capo. I realize using a capo raises the pitch but does it actually change the notes of each string and do the chords change? Or, are they the same chords played without a capo but at a higher pitch when using a capo? If so, would I be correct to assume that you start counting frets from the position where you place the capo in order to play the chords? I hope my questions make sense. Again, I've never learned to play and I am just beginning to absorb some of this stuff. I don't have my guitar yet but I will very soon. Thanks for the help/answers!! :)
@frmalb
11 жыл бұрын
The answer is yes, the chords do change when you put a capo. But to avoid confusion, we typically name the chords as if the capo wasn't on. And yes, usually you count the frets from where the capo is placed. Hope that makes sense, best of luck in your guitar journey! ;)
@tammygurl64
10 жыл бұрын
Frederic M Hiya! Thanks for that confirmation. For once, making assumptions weren't completely wrong! My new guitar arrived yesterday and I bought my capo and picks today. I've been watching a lot of beginning guitar lesson videos. I guess I'll see how it goes. LOL! Again, thanks for your response. :))

tammygurl64 Awesome! If your fingers hurt, don't worry it. That will go with time. Practice lots and have fun! Take care. Fred.
@tammygurl64
10 жыл бұрын
Frederic M Thanks, Fred! :) I will practice and also try to learn music theory because I don't understand the meaning of some of the chords (7th's etc). Anyway, I have been practicing some today and my fingers are beginning to get a little sore but it's ok. I'm getting better at not touching the first string (high E) when trying to play a chord. I cut off my nails and I'm giving up manicures for this so I hope to learn to play something! In the long run, it's cheaper than manicures and will be more fun. LOL! :D
@frmalb
10 жыл бұрын
tammygurl64 Haha, I guess you can still do manicure on one hand if you wanted to do lol. As for the music theory, Justin has a lot of great lessons. I recommend you check them out! The first step would be to learn the note circle (if you don't know them already). And then, maybe make it a game to try to find those notes on the guitar. It's not as simple as on a piano that's for sure ;p, but it would definitely help to know some notes on the guitar. Then, you can check out scales, minor pentatonic is good one to start with. But before you do that, get comfortable with the basic chords and strumming. I've been playing guitar for almost 7 years now, so if you have any more questions drop me a message, I'd be more then happy to help! Fred
