Hello, and Happy Holidays, this is the Friday before Christmas, 2023. I was just diagnosed with a herniated disc at T12 - L1, which I am finding out is not the usual place for this, and have even read it is rare. Of course it is, story of my life, ha ha! I have been in pain for 6 months, starting with low back pain back in July that moved to right flank pressure / pain over the past 4 months, and has graduated to pain from my right flank out to my naval for the past two weeks. I am scheduled for an epidural at the T12 - L1 area, which I was told usually helps with 70 to 80% of the problem, and that only about 10% of people get 100% relief. I am really hoping to be in the 10%! Do you have any advice for what I should be doing exercise / stretching / movement wise? I've been doing light workouts and walking, but I usually end up with more tightness in my back and flank muscles afterwards.

Had a disc herniated at T10 / T11 that was pure hell until it finally healed. You do not want surgery on the thoracic region of the spine.

Glad you healed! I'm having similar symptoms and possible herniation in that same area that I'm doing tests for very soon with my doctors. Could you please shed some light on how long it took you to heal and why to avoid surgery. Thank you

@@m373x It took around a year after having two steroid injection treatments into the area. My disc had calcified so it was really hard. Remember thinking that I had a kidney stone when mine first started hurting. It is a sharp stabbing pain that radiates from the back to the front. Took forever to determine what was causing the pain. Put lots of small ice packs on my back throughout the day held in place with a small brace to help with the pain. Wish you the best. It is not fun but your body will heal itself slowly.
