Back in the 70’s my pottery teacher made a kick wheel. She used 2 sheets plywood cut into circles for the bottom wheel. They were about 3 ft in diameter. It worked pretty good. She may have had bricks in between the wood layers.

@@BlanchBrothersStudio ⚠️ God has said in the Quran: 🔵 { O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that you may become righteous - ( 2:21 ) 🔴 [He] who made for you the earth a bed [spread out] and the sky a ceiling and sent down from the sky, rain and brought forth thereby fruits as provision for you. So do not attribute to Allah equals while you know [that there is nothing similar to Him]. Hi! Super cool video!! I was wondering how the shaft interacts with the thrust bearing? Does the bottom of the shaft go though the bore of the bearing and then you have something attached to the shaft which rests on top of the bearing?

i don't think the press board would be a good idea for a water item because it tends to fluff up when wet. I think the top should be not plastic because the clay may have trouble gripping on to it. other wheels have stone on top. maybe try a pizza stone for the oven. easily available. but great video overall.

The inside of the flange is bigger because the 3/4” designation is the inside diameter of the pipe. Add pipe wall thickness and that’s why it measures larger. All pipe is named based on the inside diameter of the pipe.

Good job on this project, especially if you consider yourself a beginner builder.👍 I'm considering following your basic design here but I have a question before I start. On the Thrust Bearing, does the spindle go entirely through the TB, or does it merely sit on top of it, or sit inside a shallow gallery that keeps the spindle centered. It appear you drilled realatively deep with drillpress bit, but then routed a larger gallery to accept the TB outer dia. and only deep enough to leave the TB a little proud of the wood cross-member. what is purpose of this operation? Thanks for your help or anyone who might explain this to me.

I guess the spindle doesnt technically have to go through but you have to router out at least some wood so the tb is free to spin

It doesn't "mount" to it. The concrete rests directly on top of the bearing. You can put a few washers there if you need to.

@@BlanchBrothersStudio Oh ok! So the shaft goes through the bearing and then because the bearing sits abouve the wood the concrete rests directly onto it! Sweet. Thank you!
